Muzic iz Life at Woodford Café Written by Camille West

Lil Bits to Liven up

‘D Scene’ Written by Kim Ebony

ynergy T.V’s D Scene is back and the show has been revamped to offer new content, a fully revised countdown and even a new host. Shivonne Churche, known by her fans as Lil Bits is the new host of the countdown programme and she is excited about her new venture. A seasoned host, Bits is the current host of Woodford Café’s Unplugged Tuesdays and their new event Muzic iz Life which is held on Wednesdays, both at the Port-of-Spain venue. She said because of her experience with hosting, Synergy T.V’s Peter C. Lewis approached her with the idea to host the show. “I worked with Synergy this year on the road for Carnival Monday and Tuesday and he knew I hosted Woodford café’s event and that I have the experience. So he said he wants me to host the show and that was it.” They are currently shooting new material for the show and although she’s only been onboard for one month, she is happy that she is exposed to a different aspect of the entertainment industry. “She said “Being an artiste, you don’t get to see how difficult it can be to schedule an artiste or to interview artistes. I mean, some people would cancel an interview 10 minutes

before and not know how that would affect people: the promoters, the media. So it’s really showing me a different side of things.” She said that being an artiste also makes her the perfect host for the show, as she knows what questions to ask artistes and what questions they would like to answer. “The media can sometimes ask the same questions over and over again and for me, from an artiste’s perspective, I’ll know the type of questions to ask and how to get them talking about the things they like.” Her popularity will also benefit the show as she revealed that many of her fans may be interested in seeing her on the television. “Everyone knows who I am so they’ll be like “Let me look and see what Bits is up to today” you know? Let’s see what she’s going to talk about.” The show will be aired on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday’s from 6:00p.m with a repeat at 10:00p.m. Her music career will not be put on hold and she forges ahead with her other projects. The young singer is busily preparing for Carnival 2013, already recording tracks and writing new material with her Brother/Manager Sharaad Churche.

Jah Melody was one of the program's early performers.

anaging one of the most innovative restaurants in Trinidad and Tobago is no easy task, but the owner of Woodford Café sure makes it seem that way. With its countless events and promotions, the restaurant is not only a place to dine, but is a place where one can experience a different style of entertainment. The newest addition to the line-up of weekly events is an event called Muzic Iz Life, which is held every Wednesday at the Port-of-Spain venue. Muzic Iz Life is a new concept created by current Unplugged Tuesdays host Lil Bits and Isaacs Promotion. She said Benny Hatem, owner of Woodford Café, wanted to offer an event on Wednesday evenings and sought their help. “There’s always a party, there’s always something upbeat but we thought what if we offered something more laid-back. It’s not every day you will want to jump around; let’s have something in the middle of the week where you can have some wine, maybe some cocktails, finger-foods and some good relaxing music.” The event features different genres of music, some of which include Jazz, and Rapso; there’s even Poetry. In its fourth week, the show has been

receiving good reviews as people are appreciating a new approach to the middleof-the-week entertainment. “People are looking for more than a party and it’s not just about singing or performing, but you can learn a lot too.” The show featured a host of versatile artistes and performances, which included the Clifford Charles Quintet and Keegan Maharaj, a spoken word artiste, who opened the show on the first night it was held. The second week featured Jah Melody and Joash Prime and the third week Blaax performed live and uncut with Richarde Bereaux; a pannist with a 3-piece band. The event is all about showcasing a different side to the artistes and their music, also focusing on talented up and comers who need the recognition. Bits said “This is an event where you could bring your loved one; even your mother, to just come, relax, eat and have a good time.” They intend to continue the event throughout the year, pausing only for the Carnival season when the focus is shifted. This is another one of Woodford Café’s listed events and everyone is free before 8:30p.m. Be sure to get there early as the show starts promptly at 9:30p.m.

and Kit Israel. At just 21 years of age, he knows what he wants and the direction that he wants his career to take. With You can be described as a ‘bubbly, happy tune’, with beats that are upbeat and infectious. Since releasing his first single as a solo artiste, he is getting the recognition in the business as he continues pursuing his dreams. He is currently shooting a video for the track with the help of Roger Seepersad of R/V Foto and is recording a dance remix version to the song. His hope is for, the video and the remix to be released simultaneously, and he is already working on a follow-up single to With You. He is set to work with producer Andrew Mc Intosh for the promotion of his second single and although he has not revealed the name of the track, if it’s anything similar to With You, then fans may be in for a real treat. Born John Emmanuel, the young singer was introduced to music from an

e created major hype 6 months prior to the release of his highly anticipated single With You and the results have definitely been beneficial to the song and his career. With you is now one of the hottest singles in the country, being played on many local radio stations and it is giving the singer John Tho some much needed exposure. The young singer decided to pursue a solo career after spending 2 years with the group ‘Bangaseed’, where he learned the art of performing onstage and adopted his energetic persona. His music is a fusion of pop and dance music, with a hint of Caribbean-styled beats. The song was written by Nothing Less singer K. Rich, John Tho and Kit Israel, who also produced the song with the help of RDS Studios. Since pursuing a solo career, he has decided to work with young artistes like himself, hence the decision to work with K. Rich

obago was under the spotlight a couple of weeks ago when our sister-isle hosted the fourth edition of the Tobago Jazz Experience. This year, the Tobago Department of Tourism offered a mix of artistes, all of whom are truly superstars in their own right. These included soul-singer Angie Stone, dancehall legend Barrington Levy, Swiss beauty Emeli Sande and eccentric performer Janelle Monae. Saxophonist Arturo Tappin and our very own David Rudder stole the show on Sunday, along with a host of other big-name performers. The reviews have been positive, with visitors who arrived in the country from the very start of the festival, appreciating the 9-day event, which included free workshops and tours around the island. But what really had people blown away, was the 3-day weekend event, which commenced on the night of the 27th, with World Music Night. Gerard, who attended particularly to get a glimpse of Emeli Sande said that he was in awe when she took the stage. “When it was announced that she was coming and then I heard the advertisements I knew it was real. To see her on stage was amazing. Her voice,

her band everything; this was one of the best Jazz’ yet.” One youngster said that she didn’t really know any of Barrington Levy’s songs but that she enjoyed his set the most. “I really went for the ‘lime’ since I didn’t know who the other guests were but when

Barrington came on the stage I realized that I had heard some of his songs before and he had me singing and jumping up and down,” she laughed.” One person said, “What could be said about Janelle Monae? She’s not just an artiste, she’s a performer.

group ‘Bangaseed’ and enjoyed practising his passion, before becoming a solo artiste in November last year. Who woman you know could do a forward moonwalk?” Pazzaz, which was held on the Saturday night, was dedicated to all pan lovers and although it rained, that didn’t deter some patrons from having a good time. One pan lover said, “The show was good. It didn’t have as much people as World Music Night but all the seats were filled until the rains came. The show was a bit long because I think they had like 8 or 9 performances but I enjoyed it, especially my band Renegades, who stole the show.” Earlier on in the day, the action took place on Mt. Irvine Beach and patrons were serenaded with a live band. Most could be seen dancing and singing along to performances by Etienne Charles and Elan Parle and Group. One of the main attractions on Sunday evening was Arturo Tappin who seemed to be the most loved and revered. One patron said “He stole the show; it’s as simple as that. He was amazing; he even came down into the crowd and serenaded some of the ladies.” Apart from the few negative comments, which were as a result of the rain, some said that some of the performances on Saturday night were too long. But for the most part, the event was enjoyed by most and many said that they would be returning for the fifth installment, already anticipating the line-up of artistes.

Stef brings her brand of music to the world

he can be heard on Marlon Asher’s latest hit, the remix to Beautiful day and with such a beautiful voice it’s no wonder talented Stephanie Kalloo was the perfect singer for the track. Her first single Dance the Night Away was a hit, getting plenty airtime on Synergy TV and now she’s back to fulfill her purpose as a versatile singer. Her collaboration with Marlon Asher came as a result of her desire to sing reggae and the brave beauty approached the ‘Ganja farmer’ to do collaboration with him. She said “I actually messaged him and asked him to do the song. We met in studio several years before and I told him the idea and he said no problem. I wrote the hook and he wrote his parts which were done in 20 minutes.” She said the vocals were recorded and sent to Iron Fist Productions in London to be mixed and mastered. The song is a hit region-

ally, being played on many Jamaican radio stations and the riddim, which was produced by Kibwe of Iron Fist Productions, features a host of dancehall artistes. Kalloo is destined to have her music

played and known outside of Trinidad and Tobago. The young singer wants her music to become globally known, beginning with London, Spain and Europe. She ensures that her music has that international appeal, often blending different genres to make the songs more relatable “I’m working on some stuff for Jamaica; this would be a more reggae-pop kind of song. My music is fused so I also mix a lot of different sounds and beats. You’ll always hear a little West African, techno and even soca in it. I blend it to appeal to a more worldly audience.” She is planning to release a dance track called Foreign Style in Spain and London and a new track which she doesn’t have the title to yet. She said “I normally work on building the song first, the title comes last. But it’s a mix between Get up and Go or...I don’t know, I’m still thinking,” she laughed. Her versatility is expressed in the lyrics to her songs and she is currently re-

cording a lot of songs, looking forward for an album release towards the end of Summer. For more details on Stef Kalloo, visit her Facebook page, keyword: www.facebook.com/stefkalloo or reverbnation. com/stefkalloo

645 on a mission to reach 10,000 views Written by Camille West

T

he mission is to reach 10,000 views in 2 weeks. This is what the guys of 645 hope to achieve with the release of their new single High. The unofficial promotional video has been posted to the group’s Facebook page and Youtube page, where fans can view and share the video with others. Johnson Greenidge, a third of the 3-member group, said that they used that approach as a way to get the song known internationally, as they believe that it has that global appeal. “We want to get the world on board; we believe this song is a hit. It is the basic story of boy meets girl, but we focus on trying to describe how a girl would make a guy feel. She could make you feel good, she could make you feel bad but at the end of it, there’s still that love,” he said. The single was produced by Andrew ‘Hitz’ Phillip who is also featured on the track and who also wrote the single along with the guys. Greenidge described the song as being a mix between reggae and pop and the acoustic version has that slow, jazzy appeal that’s sure to make you want to keep it on repeat.

4

The guys aren’t stopping there; they are working on an album and trying to complete music for the remainder of 2012 and 2013. The tracks would include a variety of sounds such as soca, reggae, pop and dance music. No collaborations yet but the guys have listed Machel Montano as the soca star who they would want to work with in the future. Greenidge said “He likes our vibe, he heard some of our stuff and he was really feeling it so we will approach him with some projects in the future.” Former Synergy Soca Star competitors, the guys have released several singles in the past that made its way on the airwaves such as Gidem Sarge and Toc Toc. They also did backup vocals for some of the country’s big names in soca such as Blaax’s Tanty Woi, Denise Belfon’s Dance and Dingolay and Iwer George’s Come to Meh. Marvin Pollard and Gregory Basso sum up the 3-member group that comprises the band 645. For more information about the group and the single High, check out the group’s Facebook: page www.facebook.com/645 and their Youtube channel: 645 the band.

Ms Full-Figured teen, offering teens the full package

his is the first year that Beyond Average Productions will host the Miss Full-Figured Teen Trinidad and Tobago Pageant. The team, which is also responsible for the Miss Queen-size Trinidad and Tobago Pageant, extends the opportunity to all full-figured teens in the country as they get the chance to experience the opportunity of a lifetime. Kelise Cowie, the producer of the event, said that they would be offering the girls a holistic package, focusing on different areas of training. “They will be taught make-up application and exercise-we hired a personal trainer from Millennium Gym to assist with this in order to improve on health-beauty and confidence. We figured full-figured teens would need help with this so we got a parent to communicate with them, teaching them about bullying and abuse,” she said. The competition is open to teens between the ages of 13-18 years old. Ten girls have already been chosen and preparations have started for the event, which is composed of segments. Cowie said, “The first event will take place on 3rd

of June which is talent night. The girls will give a 2-minute speech based on the title My beauty is...and compete in the best spokeswoman competition. On 1st July, which is pageant final night, the girls would be expected to do an introductory dance, introductory speech, participate in the sportswear segment, take part in 2 question and answer segments and model formal wear.” The judges will

then choose the top five from the first question and answer segment and then choose a winner thereafter. The winner of the competition will receive $8000 in cash, $2000 worth of clothing from Kelise Cowie Designs, a facial courtesy Cher Mere, a hamper and the usual trimmings of a beauty-queen winner: crown, sash and an official Miss Full-figured Teen photo shoot. Cowie said “We hope that

all the girls would ‘walk away’ with something that they learnt from the pageant. Even if they do not win, we want to make them feel and know that they are beautiful.” The girls have since made an appearance at a Charity function and Cowie explained that this was done to make them experience being in the spotlight. Amalgamated Security Services are the official sponsor of the event, which will be an annual staple for Beyond Average Promotions, similar to the Miss Queen-size pageant. calorie-burning dance fitness-party, that’s moving millions of people toward joy and health. In T&T, the Zumba fitness routine emerged approximately two years

ago, however since that time, the trend has remained somewhat dormant on the island with only small pockets of people truly getting involved. Now, Atrawets

School of Dance and Dance Education believes it’s high time Trinbagonians caught on and got involved in something that could really change their lives. On May 19, the Cascadia Ballroom will be converted into fitness party central and many are expected to be a part of the initiative, which will see part proceeds being donated to the Diabetes Association of Trinidad and Tobago and the Autistic Society of Trinidad and Tobago. The event will be hosted by RED 96.7FM radio personalities and former Soca Monarch and Road March champs, JW and Blaze. Tickets are being sold for just $200 with special corporate packages available for businesses whose employees yearn for a truly fun-filled evening of stress-free exercising, followed by a good Trini party. Zumba is on the rise worldwide and organizers of this unique fitness party all agree that Trinidad and Tobago nationals are sure to enjoy the dynamic of Zumba, which is quite reminiscent of the sexy body movements that most Trini women are often inclined to showcase on any dance floor and especially at carnival time.

erri Lyons is featured in this week’s edition of Hot Seat. The talented singer and fellow band-member of Sass, was the perfect candidate for the Mother’s Day issue, as she holds her mother in a very high regard. Although her Mother is deceased, Terri emulates the woman who gave birth to her and raised her and her brother single handedly. Now old enough to understand her mother’s decisions, she is determined to make her mother proud and to achieve success in her career. She is currently in the studio along with band members, Nadia Batson and Meagan Waldron, working on new material for Carnival 2013 to add to the band’s repertoire. ET&T: If you had to inherit any characteristics from your Mother, what would it be? T.L: “Determination and I say that because I know a lot of people think that I grow up with a ‘gold spoon in my mouth’ but we had some really hard and tough times, my mother, brother and I. And through it all, my mother never gave up. No matter what, she never left me or my brother behind; she never left us anywhere. You know some people would be going through stuff and they would leave their kids? My mother would say even if she had $5.00 she would use that to take care of us. She never gave up on us; she always found a way to work it out. She never complained or looked at us like a problem. She always said as long as she had health and strength, she would get out there and work hard for her kids.” ET&T: Do you want to have children? T.L: Yes of course. I am, I am sure of that ET&T: What do you think their names would be? T.L: Well I haven’t decided yet because I’m not sure if it’s going to be a boy or a girl. I mean I have some unisex names but you don’t want to have a girl and give her a boy name (laughs) But I have a lot of names in my head and we all want to name our kids the nicest names but all just can’t fit on the birth paper (laughs) ET&T: Boy or Girl? T.L: Hmmmm I love girls

very close. She would sit with me and talk about everything. I learnt everything from her. My mother would even accompany me to School bazaars and I mean Secondary School (laughs). When I used to attend Barataria Junior Secondary, my mother would come with me until one time she wasn’t there and my friends were like “Terri where’s your mother? She’s not coming”? And I’m like well I’m not sure but I’m here (laughs) you know? So that’s the kind of relationship my mother and I had. Plus, I would also teach them that no one is ever too big to apologize, another thing I learnt from my Mother. You know, some parents may feel that they’re too big to apologize but that’s never the case. My mother always apologized to us when she was wrong; maybe she handled a situation the wrong way but she always said sorry. ET&T: Why? T.L: I just like to play dress up with them; I had lots of dolls when I was younger. I like all the dresses and stuff like that, that is until they reach fifteen and they’re telling you what they want to wear. ET&T: If you had the chance to tell your mother one thing. What would it be? T.L: Well my Mother is deceased, she died in 2002 so if I had the chance I would like her to know that I am making her proud and that I will continue and that I love her very much. ET&T: What do you think you did that made your mother the proudest? T.L: When I was younger I entered a Queen Show and for the talent part I had to sing a song. When I got up on stage to sing I forgot the whole song and instead of running off I asked the crowd to help me sing it and they did (laughs) After that, I remembered the words and I took over

singing the whole song. I eventually made it to the finals where I placed 6th. I think she was the most proud of me then because I actually stood there and didn’t run off or ‘freeze up’; I was brave. ET&T: If you had to ask for forgiveness for one incident, what would it be? T.L: I came home late from school in form one, I wasn’t doing anything wrong, was just on the (taxi) stand. And when I came home she talked to me about it and I got upset and stayed upset for 3 days. And back then you don’t realize that it didn’t make sense, it was just a teenage tantrum but now I realize how stupid it was. I never even apologized for it. I just went on like normal but if I had the chance to apologize for that, I would. ET&T: What morals and values would you pass on to your children? T.L: To always maintain a close relationship with your parents. My mother and I were

ET&T: Do you think you could ever be a single parent? T.L: No one wants to be a single parent and if I am one I would ask God for the health and strength to raise a child on my own but no I don’t want to. That’s why I always say take your time and get to know whoever you’re with; get to know that person: their do’s, their don’ts, their good and bad side. See if you could truly spend a future with this person with you, him and a family. Parents should never see their kids as a burden. If you see your children as a burden then something’s wrong with you; you need help. Maybe you need counseling or more education on safe sex to prevent you from having children. Plus although my mother was a single parent she never prevented us from seeing our Dad; she always said when you see your father run to him like he’s a million dollars, that’s just how we were brought up. So although she may have been upset with him, she said that was her problem and that we should not study that.

Eight Easy Ways to be Happier in Daily Life Y our daily life can be made happier. It is a matter of choice. It is our attitude that makes us feel happy or unhappy. It is true, we meet all kinds of situations during the day, and some of them may not be conductive to happiness. We can choose to keep thinking about the unhappy events, or we can choose to refuse to think about them, and instead, relish in the happy moments. All of us constantly go through various situations and circumstances, but we do not have to let them influence our reactions and feelings. If we let outer events influence our moods, we become their slaves. We lose our freedom. We let our happiness be determined by outer forces. On the other hand, we can free ourselves from external influences. We can choose to be happy, and we can do a lot to add happiness to our lives. Here are eight tips for increasing

happiness in daily life:

1) Endeavor to change the way you look at things. Always look at the bright side. The mind may drag you to think about negativity and difficulties. Don't let it. Instead force it to look at the good and positive side of every situation. 2) Think of solutions, not problems. 3) Listen to relaxing, uplifting music. 4) Associate with happy people, and try to learn from them to be happy. Remember, happiness is contagious. 5) Each day, devote some time to reading a few pages of an inspiring book or article. 6) Watch your thoughts. Whenever you catch yourself thinking negative thoughts, try to focus on pleasant thoughts. 7) Always look at what you have achieved and not at what you haven't. Some-

features

times you may begin the day with the desire to accomplish several objectives. At the end of the day you might feel frustrated and unhappy, because you haven't been able to do all of those things. Look at what you have done, not at what you have not been able to do. You may have accomplished a lot during the day, and yet you let yourself become frustrated, because of some small things that you did not accomplish. You have spent all day successfully carrying out many plans, and instead of feeling happy and satisfied, you look at what was not accomplished and feel unhappy. It is unfair toward you. 8) Each day do something good for yourself. It can be something small, such as buying a book, eating something you love, watching you favorite program on TV, going to a movie, or just having a stroll on the beach.

Five Tips to Annoy Your Boss O k, so your boss (in all his incompetent glory) is annoying you. Well what are you waiting on to annoy him/her back? After all, this is Trinidad, so it’s hardly likely you’ll get fired if you are crafty enough about it (especially in a government job). These five tips are great ways to retaliate when your sickening boss is trying his/her best to make your life miserable.

1

Set your internal spam filter to the highest security level, and use the standard reply "nobody told me" for any company rule violation that you are being accused of.

2

When asked for input about improvements, try to come up with the silliest, most unworkable and most expensive ideas imaginable. Then complain that management never does anything with the input they gather from employees. This works especially well if you can conjure support of a couple others disgruntled workers in the meeting. There is strength in numbers and a majority decision always seems correct.

3

When you have a question for your manager don’t ask it directly. Start explaining

your situation with as many details as possible. Repeat this procedure, while looking hurt and misunderstood, until your manager is able to formulate your exact question. Dig up an old e-mail message that you ignored 3 months earlier, and reply to it as if you only received it an hour ago. But first verify that any need for an answer has long faded away.

Your standard reply for any team problem should be that communication by management is abysmal. If your manager doesn’t agree, ignore him. Stare at him with a puzzled look which would infer that he still isn’t getting through to you. While pleading your case, be sure to sound more educated than Morgan Job on mental steroids. Use lots of big words (in the right context of course) and refer to company policy and by-laws if necessary. Clearly this article was to be taken in jest. So please refrain from sending letters to us saying we were responsible for your job loss. Instead remember this article during times of work-related stress and try to laugh away your troubles. www.etntweekly.com • MAY, 2012 • ET&T 13

“The store provides services such as Style Assessments, personal shopping, and special ordering to customers. Style Concierges trained within the image industry are available to customers on a daily basis.” Said Mr. Millington. Co –owner, Ms. Nekeisha Morgan holds expertise in Financial Accounting and Economics. Ms. Morgan will maintain book-keeping records and maneuver the business through economic changes. “I have recently developed skills in Interior Design and I am therefore fully capable of creating the ambiance and High-end, space saving environment in our boutique.” said Ms. Morgan. Prez-E-Dential Entertainment K

ET&T: Give a brief description of your promotional entity/ team. Energetic. Driven. Young. Dynamic. Humble. This is what PREZ-E-DENTIAL stands for in a nut shell. We’re a family. We are determined to host

profile

Our staple events are BAR-B-CREW, SOPHISTICAION (November) and GETAWAY (Summer). We’re also involved in the new event, BLEU, hosted during Carnival along with other wellknown promoters. Up next for us is GETAWAY- our 2nd year hosting this event. June 2nd at Salybia Resort. It’s Pool… Beach… Bikinis. Not something you want to miss.

ET&T: How long have you been involved in events planning and promotion ? PREZ-E-DENTIAL ENTERTAINMENT was established in 2009. However, I would not say we have been in this for just 3 years. We are fairly new to the industry as a group, but individually everyone has a wealth of experience.

promoter

ET&T: What are your staple events and what do you have next on the agenda?

urk Boission, Jeremy Campbell, Kerron Lambert, Keidell Knights, Denzel Lewis, Nicholas Johnson and Jean-Pierre Martin are the seven members which form Prez-E-Dential Entertainment. This young crew from East-Trinidad has been responsible for some of the best local party events in recent times and ET&T highlights them so readers and patrons could know a little more about the team.

not only successful events, but memorable events. We have a dream that our key events can be lived on through our successors. It’s a business we’re investing in. A legacy we want to create. ET&T: What are the things that make an event successful? VYBEZ!!!!....Definitely building vibes. For us, having a well anticipated theme to your event. Having a theme now is so important. People want to know how to dress and what to expect. You need to keep in the know of what people want & for what their willing to spend.

ET&T: What are the major misconceptions people have of your promotional brand?

ET&T: What makes your events stand out?

Well I guess with any new promotional team entering the industry some believe your trying to push someone out when in fact you just want to add to what is being offered or improve on what you think in your opinion can be improved. And I guess for those not in it, they believe it’s easier than it looks which is so not true. It’s a lot of hard work that goes into throwing a successful event and it takes dedication, discipline and a great team.

Our favorite….Vybez!!!...We try to make each experience memorable especially for the ladies. The more treats we can offer them the better. What we are remembered most for are probably giveaways at our events. People just love the “preze”-bands (black and white). Maybe launch another colour??? Who knows…*laughs*

ET&T: Anything else you would like readers to know about your brand? We’re just 7 guys who grew up together, enjoying life, having fun and wanting to share that experience with other people. Positive movements, humble thinking, and continuous Vybez…

For a “You hear it first”: Prez-e-dential also plans to do our first cruise this year and trust me when I say there are lots, lots more surprises and “SUMMFUN!!”

Beauty On The Run F

inding a few moments to ourselves proves quite a daunting task these days. With places to go, people to see, presentations to make and happy hours to enjoy, getting dolled up sometimes becomes more of a hassle than it’s worth…or so it seems. When you add up all the minutes it takes to select an outfit, accessorize with the right purse and appropriate jewelry, dry and style your hair, apply makeup and dash out the door, before you know it you’re running late again. The problem is this: You want to look great but you don’t want to spend a near-lifetime getting ready. The solution? Pick and choose which elements of your appearance are most important to you. Once you’ve prioritized, you can really achieve the look you want in less time. Here are some quick and easy beauty prep tips

DO: Carry a powder compact at all times. If you don’t have time for makeup, you’ll be happy to at least dust some powder on your cheeks and forehead. If your company throws a last minute photo shoot at you, your compact will save your tail. Keep a tube of lip-gloss or lip balm handy

BEAUTY

at all times. Not only does it make you so much more kissable should your sweetheart pop into the office for a surprise visit, but you’ll be keeping your smackers safe from chapping, splitting and the dryness associated with both hot and cold climates. Even without a true colour lipstick, lipgloss can make you feel sexy and it’s so worth it.

Invest in some hair accessories; especially claw clips, hairpins and other barrettes. Even if you don’t have the time to fashion a new look, twist your hair back and pin it to your head for a sweeping look. Some hair clips will allow you to pile all of your hair on top of your head effortlessly. This comes in very handy when you don’t have time to dry your hair completely. Make your manicures last longer by applying clear polish every so often. With such a busy schedule, it is amazing you have your nails done in the first place. To keep your pretty look alive as long as possible, apply a clear topcoat daily to prevent the nail polish from cracking and chipping. DON’T: Even think about doing your makeup “in the car.” Even if you are stopped at a red light, the minimal time you have between

lights isn’t nearly enough to apply mascara, let alone foundation or anything else. Especially don’t try to paint your nails in the car!

Go too heavy on the hues… If you’re doing a dark, intense look for your eyes, avoid going high-impact on your mouth. Good luck!!!

as a tourist destination and the Tobago Jazz Experience in April went a long way to ensuring that goal. A plethora of musical acts from varying genres converged at various locations in the sister isle for several concerts held over nine days on the lovely island. Among the big acts were Janelle Monet, Angie Stone and Emily Sande with regional and local acts adding to the cornucopia of sound. Here is a sample of what went down in Tobago. events xcitement and pace are two words which can easily be associated with the events which took place at the recent Borough E Day celebrations in Point Fortin. This year’s edition of the Borough’s anniversary was said to have been the biggest in several years and it featured a host of events over the course of one full week. However, most people go to Point Fortin Borough Day celebrations for the Jouvert and ET&T has photos of some of the Jouvert action.

Meguiar’s Car Crazy Competition P remium car detailing brand Meguiar’s hosted its first Car Crazy competition at the Centre of Excellence Macoya on April 29th. The usual car show suspects showed up and some newbies also emerged to show off what T&T have to offer in terms of customization and vintage car designs. It was well attended by the young and the old, but we’re not focusing on the people this time around. Take a look at some of the cars on display.

Legal Loopholes ection C of Act 13 in the book of fashion crimes states that a fashion miscreant shall not be charged during a Jouvert celebration. While it may not have been Carnival, Pt. Fortin Borough day did feature Jouvert prominently. This meant that tons of people would have been S dressed like crazy fools. It was all in good fun though and the Fashion police had to let them slide based on a technicality. This by all accounts is a grown man. Do not be confused by the bubbles in his hair and baby bottle in his mouth. We just hope that bottle doesn’t actually belong to a kid. We kept our eyes open. If we see him with those bubbles in his hair one day after Jouvert he’s going down.

The sad thing is she wasn’t the only one made to wear this outfit. What makes it worse is she actually has potential to look really good. You can bet we will follow up to make sure the Jouvert looseness did not rub off on her too much

Umm… uhh… hmm… Let’s just say this character looks like trouble. We may have to use tasers if he ever dons this outfit again. It was a stretch to allow this even for Jouvert.

SEA is Over:

Time For The Movies S

.E.A. is finally over and for the many who were a part of the eleven-plus exam stress it’s now time to kick back for a bit before making the switch to long pants. This means tons of fun traveling with family, playing at home with friends or catching the latest blockbuster flicks. Here are two of them that should be perfect for the kid entering their teens.

Brave This movie has a very ‘Legend of Zelda’ feel to it. In the CGI film, determined to make her own path Princess Merida defies a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom. Granted one wish, Merida must rely on her bravery and her archery skills to undo a beastly curse. The movie features the voices of Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly and Emma Thompson.

The Avengers It would be remiss of us to fail to mention what could potentially be the biggest blockbuster of the year. So, of course The Avengers is the first film they need to see. It’s the ultimate superhero flick where Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. brings together a team of super humans to form The Avengers to help save the Earth from Loki and his army. The team comprises Ironman, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow and the Hulk. If that isn’t the perfect prepubescent fodder, we don’t know what is. 28 ET&T • MAY, 2012 • www.etntweekly.com

Odom, have another reality show simply entitled Khloe and Lamar but the couple will be taking a hiatus from shooting that E! reality series this year to focus on other areas of their lives. Khloe has used her fame and figure to become a much sought-after plus-sized model –championing the cause of ‘regular women’ around the world.
