A Conyers Classic Gets Even Better! Featured Restaurant - Los Charros Willie Bravo and his wife Tina originally opened the first of three restaurants in Conyers in 1986 on Old Salem Road. Willie is originally from San Jose de la Paz, Jalisco Mexico, and loves cooking his authentic Mexican dishes for the community of Conyers. Jalisco is the home of Mexican food. There are now three locations conveniently located throughout Conyers. In March of 2003 their family opened the Honey Creek location. The North restaurant opened in May of 2006. Willie and his family have been serving the residents of Rockdale County for more than 23 years. All locations are family owned and operated. Join Willie and his family in celebrating Cinco de Mayo from May 2nd to May 5th at all three locations. The north and the Honey Creek locations will have live entertainment on Saturday. On May 5th the North location will have a Marachi band. The Old Salem road location will be open late for after the party, weekdays until 12, Friday and Saturday until 2. Outdoor dining is available at the North and Honey Creek locations. Monday thru Thursday there are daily drink specials staring at $1.75. Properly Installed Insulation Improves Comfort While Saving Energy
Insulation is one of the keys to a comfortable, energy-efficient home. But simply having the right amount of insulation is not enough. If insulation is not properly installed, a home can have excessive heat gain during the summer and heat loss in the winter—forcing the heating and cooling systems to work overtime. Properly installed insulation will completely blanket the home—exterior walls, ceiling, and floors—without gaps, voids, or compressions, and it will be in full contact with the interior air barrier (for example, drywall). Spring Garden Tips from the Rockdale County Cooperative Extension
• Control fire ants with the two-step method. Broadcast a fire ant bait now. Three weeks later use an insecticide drench labeled for fire ants to kill any mounds you missed. Make sure to give the bait time to work. Do not pour the bait directly on the mound. Remember, they like to find their food! • Remove pansies by May 15. They are cool season flowers and should be planted after October 15 and removed by May 15. They may be looking great now but if you leave them in any longer they will become stressed as weather gets hotter and root diseases will get started. These root rots will affect new plantings of annuals. • Weed control in lawns – it’s too late for herbicides for winter weeds like bluegrass, chickweed, henbit – look for them next Jan/Feb and control them. Once a weed starts flowering herbicides won’t work on it any more. Mow off any winter weeds and remove the clippings. Preemergent for crabgrass control should have been put down in February. If you put it down now expect some crabgrass. • Mulch 3-4 inches deep to conserve water. Use an organic mulch like pine straw, bark, compost or leaves. Mulch as wide as the dripline of the plant or further. Remember, ROCKS ARE NOT MULCH! They do not hold moisture in the soil. • Water your lawn according to the law, but water properly when you do. Let your lawn tell you when they need to be watered. Turfgrass will be a blue green color and footprints don’t spring back when you walk on the turf. Turf needs one inch of water every 7-10 days. One or two waterings is better than every day.

WATCH FOR POSITIVE CHANGES IN INVESTMENT CLIMATE
If you look at the performance of the stock market in recent weeks, you’ll see some good days and even good weeks — followed by not-so-good days and rough weeks. But if you look beyond these volatile numbers, you might see a story that offers some encouragement for investors in the not-too-distant future. Pay attention to these factors: * Efforts by Treasury to stabilize financial system — Just a few months ago, the government did not intercede to prevent the failure of Lehman Brothers and other financial services giants. In recent weeks, though, we’ve seen the U.S. Treasury provide massive support to Citigroup and other major banks. These efforts should contribute to increased stability in our financial system. * Actions by Federal Reserve to increase flow of credit — The Federal Reserve has acted aggressively to free up the flow of credit to consumers and businesses. As a result of the Fed’s moves, inter-bank lending costs have dropped dramatically and we’ve seen an increase in the issuance of commercial paper, which are unsecured obligations issued by corporations or banks to finance their short-term credit needs. And, as the Fed has dropped short-term interest rates to zero, mortgage rates have begun dropping. If 30-year mortgage rates fall to the low-four-percent range, many more consumers should begin to refinance existing homes and even purchase new ones, thus bringing demand back to the housing market. * Economic stimulus package from Obama administration — President Obama and the new Congress are poised to enact a stimulus package including spending on infrastructure, aid to individual states, a middle-class

tax cut, aid to homeowners and other elements. This type of stimulus could have a large, positive and immediate impact on the economy. * Possible last stages of recession — Clearly, we’re in the midst of a harsh recession. But we might be closer to the end than the beginning. And, in fact, a majority of the economists polled in the well-respected Blue Chip Economic Indicators poll said they expected the recession to end in the second half of 2009. Of course, even the official end of the recession wouldn’t necessarily indicate a robust economy, but it would almost certainly improve the investment environment. * Attractive stock and bond prices — A long bear market tends to drag down the prices of most stocks — even those issued by strong companies whose prospects are good. Consequently, you can now find many good stocks selling for reasonable prices. When the market recovers, these quality stocks are often the first to show impressive gains. And stocks aren’t the only good investment opportunity available, either. In recent weeks, bond “spreads” — the difference in yields between Treasury bonds and those bonds issued by other agencies, such as municipalities or corporations —— have been wider than we’ve seen in many decades. Because bond prices move in the opposite directions to their yields, the high yields offered by municipalities and companies likely mean that these types of bonds are now priced relatively low. So the next time you find yourself shaking your head over the stock market’s gyrations, try to focus on building an investment strategy for the future — which may be brighter than you thought.

The Conyers Main Street Program is partnering with multiple organizations to help promote the arts in Conyers and throughout the metro Atlanta area by hosting the Olde Town Fine Arts Festival on Saturday, May 16th, 11 am – 4 pm. Festival activities include: · Live dance, music and dramatic performances will entertain festival goers at various Olde Town venues · Children’s creative activity centers with costs ranging from free to maximum of $3 per-person · Art vendors offering a variety of goods and demonstrations will line Railroad and Commercial Streets • A Dinky Parade! The “Dinky Parade” is a display of wooden train cut-outs decorated by children from participating public and private schools. The trains will be on display the day of the festival in front of stores in Olde Town. The Dinky Parade will offer the People’s Choice Award in which festival visi tors are encouraged to vote for their favorite train. The selected train will be placed on display in the Olde Town Gallery & Studio window during the week following the festival. A panel of judges will be awarding three trophies during the festival as well. The judges will vote to determine which school from the elementary, middle and high school levels will receive a trophy to take back to their school. · Olde Town Fine Arts National Juried Exhibition hosted by the Olde Town Gallery & Studio with prizes totaling $2,000. The public is invited to view the artwork on display in the Gallery the day of the festival.
