Using Stainless Steel Angles

It is important for engineers to make the right decision when they need to choose on the angles to use for their next construction project. Structural shapes or forms are hot mill angle iron products which are produced by rolling steel while they are in the plastic state. There are two chemistries from which these are produced. The first one is low carbon steel similar as those available as commercial cold roll steel while the second one is a high strength allow material sold usually in sheet form. Dimensionally, the differences between cold rolled product and hot mill product are that the outer corners of a hot mill product is usually square corners while the cold roll form product has radius corners that are a product of the inner radius in addition to the thickness and stretch of the material. Another difference is that the web of channels and leg of angles and channels are tapered with a hot mill product while on the other hand, the cold formed product has similar thickness. The outer leg edges of a hot mill product are rounded while the cold formed product is square because of the fact that the edges are cut from coil. There is a huge advantage of utilizing cold finished product when there has to be succeeding fabrication like notches, holes, miters and others. The consistent thickness and flatness of stainless steel angles and channels inherent in the cold formed product enables accurate location of fabricated features hard to achieve with a hot mill product. Such features can usually be imparted into the material in the flat state before it is formed using a pre-notch procedure allowing the roll formers to merge operations which are otherwise have to be carried out as discrete additional operations using hot rolled process if depending on the next operation in question it can be performed at all. The inflexibility of the section of the stainless steel channels and angles can be assumed similar for a given age through the use of median measured thickness of hot mill products like that of the cold formed product.
