Occulus

(James Gunn, USA 2014, 122mins) After stealing a powerful and mysterious orb, brash space adventurer Peter Quill finds himself on the run, joining forces with a group of misfits to stop it falling into dangerous hands.

29th Aug – 3rd Sep

The Fault in Our Stars (Josh Boone, USA 2014, AD, 140mins) Based on the bestselling novel by John Green, this highly acclaimed drama follows two teenagers who meet at a cancer support group. Sharing an acerbic wit and a disdain for the conventional, it explores the funny, thrilling and tragic business of being alive and in love.

5th – 7th, 10th & 12th Sep

The Inbetweeners 2 (Iain Morris,Damon Beesley, UK 2014, 96mins) The lads visit Australia in this incredibly successful follow-up to the first hit movie.

SEPTEMBER MEDI 2014

(Mike Flanagan, UK 2014, 103mins) Karen Gillan (Doctor Who) stars in this creepy chiller about a woman who sets out to prove her parents’ death was caused by a supernatural entity within an antique mirror. Tracking it down, she and her brother find their hold on reality shattered by terrifying hallucinations as the truth behind the mirror is slowly revealed…

Boyhood (Richard Linklater, USA 2014, 166mins) A unique cinema experiment filmed over 10 years with the same cast, Richard Linklater directs this drama about adolescence and growing up, in which the actors literally age before your eyes. A truly groundbreaking experience.

The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (Robert Wiene, Germany 1920, 77mins) One of the most iconic masterpieces in cinema history, Robert Wiene's radically expressionis-tic film changed the face of cinema. This release has been painstakingly restored from the original camera negative, and enhances the film’s nightmarishly jagged sets and sinister atmosphere like never before.

19th – 25th Sep

The 100 ft. Journey

(Orson Welles, USA 1947, 91mins) Orson Welles’ fantastic thriller is a puzzle within a puzzle, a deep and complex story of deception, fraud and murder involving a sailor (Welles) who is asked to fake the death of his boss, while at the same time falling in love with his employer’s wife (Rita Hayworth). The web of lies comes to a climax in a hall of mirrors, hailed as one of the greatest scenes in cinematic history.

10th Sep

Camille Claudel 1915 (Bruno Dumont, France 2013, 95mins, subtitled) Juliette Binoche gives a powerful performance as the sculptor and mistress of Auguste Rodin who was imprisoned in a Church-run asylum near Avignon at the insistence of her brother. Deprived of all artistic materials and reduced to a life of silence and monotony, the result is heart-aching and affecting.

(Lasse Hallström, India/USA 2014, 122mins) Helen Mirren stars in this adaptation of the best-selling novel. An Indian family move to a quaint, picturesque village in the south of France, determined to open their own restaurant, the “Maison Mumbai”. But this doesn’t go down at all well with the chilly proprietress of the Michelin-starred classical French restaurant, literally across the street… Parent & Baby screening Thurs 25 12pm

14th, 20th, 21st Sep

Postman Pat (Mike Disa, UK 2014, 87mins) Fun family animation about the loveable postie who springs to the rescue when his replacement, the “Pat-bot 3000”, starts causing chaos!

(David Michôd, Australia 2014, 103mins) Set in the Australian outback of the near future, with society and law pushed to breaking point, a loner (Guy Pearce) has his car stolen by a gang of thieves, and begins a desperate and unrelenting pursuit to get it back. Robert Pattinson also stars in this bleak, gruelling and critically acclaimed drama.

14th & 17th Sep

Chef (Jon Favreau, USA 2014, 114mins) Robert Downey Jr , Scarlett Johansson and Dustin Hoffman all appear in this light-hearted comedy about a chef (Jon Favreau) who walks away from his high profile restaurant after picking a fight with a restaurant critic. Buying a broken-down food truck on the other side of America, he begins a cross-country journey to drive it back. Infused with fabulous Cuban music, this food-fuelled travelogue is enjoyably charming entertainment.

(Hong Khaou, UK 2013, 86mins, some subtitles) A Chinese woman who speaks no English is marooned in an old people’s home. Her friend Richard (Ben Wishaw) tries to help by hiring an interpreter so she can talk to her ageing Romeo (Peter Bowles), yet she doesn’t realise that Richard is also her son’s lover… A touching and intimate film.

26th Sep – 4th Oct, 6th – 9th Oct

Pride (Matthew Warchus, UK 2014, 120mins) Imelda Staunton and Bill Nighy are fab in this fun and lively comedy set during the summer of 1984. Thatcher’s in power, and the miners are on strike: when a group of gay and lesbian activists decide to raise money to help them, they set off to a small mining village in deepest Wales to give their support in person, where the locals are about to get the surprise of their lives!
