Your skills will be honed through the lens of international business and leading business transformation, empowering you and your organisation to respond strategically to the changing environment.

Your development will be highlighted through the capstone module, which is a choice of consultancy style project presented by one of our business partners or based on a challenge within your own workplace, or a more theoretical researchbased topic.

YOU’LL LEARN HOW TO:

• Demonstrate critical understanding and integration of management and leadership knowledge within a local and international context.

• Select and apply appropriate tools and techniques to different problem situations in meeting strategic organisational aims.

• Critically appraise complex business and financial risks and manage strategic challenges, in regional and global contexts, and provide recommendations for innovation and business transformation.

• Synthesise multifaceted information and communicate in a concise, professional manner to inform decision making.

33

LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT

One of the key benefits of undertaking an MBA is the networking opportunities it provides and the ability to learn from other managers. Therefore, active discussion forms a significant part of the learning strategy. This is backed up with tutorial exercises, lectures (recorded or live) and resources placed on our virtual learning environment. Although theory forms the bedrock of the modules, this is delivered and discussed in a very applied manner through the use of personal experiences, case-studies and simulations.

As a Master’s level course there is also an expectation of personal reflection, research and investigation.

Assessment is varied across the modules but designed to provide an opportunity for greater learning. In this way we adopt the best practice approach of assessment ‘for’ learning rather than simply ‘of’ learning.

The diversity of assessment includes, personal reflections on experience, application of knowledge to given scenarios and exploration of theoretical concepts. This leads to presentation of work in oral, visual or written forms.

We recognise that complex real-world problems can’t be solved by single disciplines alone, which is why we actively encourage interdisciplinary research across the University.

This approach allows researchers from different fields to share methodologies and approaches to reach solutions in unique ways.

Abertay’s Research Strategy is centred around four distinct Challenge Spaces. They address key local, national and international priorities where our research is best positioned to respond.

The Challenge Spaces are:

• Creative Industries and Cultural Vitality – exploring the creative use of interactive/immersive technologies in entertainment and non-entertainment fields.

• Security, Equality and Social Justice – fostering personal, societal and organisational security and resilience in a time of increased threat and disruption.

• Health and Care Across the Lifespan – considering how science, sport and physical activity can address challenges relating to adversity, mental and physical health, wellbeing, education, performance and social care.

• Sustainable Development and Inclusive Living – responsibly managing the natural resource requirements of inclusive living and business infrastructures.
