These walls have ears. Listening. It’s become a lost art in business these days, but fortunately, not at Thrush. Here at the factory listening to customers, suppliers and fans has always been an important part of our every day. And we’re getting even better at it. Whether it’s a phone call for parts, a comment during a field test, or a conversation at a tradeshow, we listen – and we act on what we hear. It makes us better – and ensures our aircraft and our service always exceed your expectations. Try us. We’re all ears. For more information, and a willing ear, call Eric Rojek at 229.789.0437, or visit us online if you prefer at thrushaircraft.com.

Thrush Aircraft

A message from Thrush Aircraft

It’s hard to believe it is NAAA show time again! It seems like just yesterday we were looking for relief from the heat, and enjoying the long days and increased spraying time summer brings. We’re excited to have the show back in Savannah, Georgia this year – as it’s right around the corner from our home here in Albany. In that regard, please do plan a stop here at the factory if your show travel plans have you coming this way. We’d enjoy having you see how our airplanes are built and, most important, have you meet the people who build them. It’s our tradition to use this space in AgAir Update every year to not so much talk about Thrush and our accomplishments, but rather to share news from the field and the things we’re doing as a company to help all operators – regardless of what aircraft they fly. We think having a stronger, safer and better industry is good for everyone – and it’s something we continue to put our hearts into every day. In that regard, we’re proud to report that this year’s winner of the Thrush Agricultural Aviation Scholarship Batelle Rachman. The scholarship program we created awards $10,000 to a winning candidate to be used to further their agricultural aviation flight training. The response has been tremendous over the past three years and we’re continuing the program into 2015 in concert with Women in Aviation. If you know an ambitious, talented young person who could use a hand financially

with their ag pilot training – have them sign up for the program at womeninaviation.com. It’s a great way to give back to the industry, and ensure the future is bright for those looking to make a career in it. Last year, we also undertook a major awareness campaign targeted at growers to help them better understand the benefits of aerial application over ground-based units. It was called: “Celebrating Ag Aviation”, and we’re happy to report it was a major success. So much so that, this year, we created another program to actually take one of our aircraft and put it in the hands of as many people across the country as possible – just so they could experience what the latest in agricultural aviation felt like. We dubbed it the “2015 Summer Tour” and by the time it concluded, we had visited 24 states, made some 22 visits, and hosted some 540 people. Best of all, we gave onwing check-outs to 154 pilots and let them spend some time flying the tour airplane in their local areas. It was a great success – and opened a lot of eyes to the latest technology in use today. To celebrate the event (and through the courtesy of its new owner) we’re actually bringing the Summer Tour airplane to NAAA this year and will have it on display in our booth. Come by and see it – and we’ll share some tales from the road that we think you’ll enjoy. Perhaps the best outcome of the Summer Tour, however, was the chance it gave us to hear the voices of agricultural folks across a wide range of – not only the country – but of the industry as well. Pilots, operators, growers, maintenance staff, community leaders and more came out to chat with us, and the information and feedback they provided was invaluable. It was truly listening at

it’s very best – and it’s something we take very seriously here at Thrush. Simply put, what came through loud and clear was that – regardless of the airplane you fly or oversee – at the end of the day, it’s the support and the service behind it that truly matters. And that support can take many forms – from the usual parts and equipment updates, to advice and counsel on getting the most from your business and the airplanes you’re using. This was music to our ears as, here at Thrush, we continue to pride ourselves on listening, and on taking positive action based on what we learn from the folks on the front lines. The ones sweating out a long day or a tough season – as well as those who want to expand their operations, but to do so wisely. That’s where a good manufacturer comes in. To us, it’s not about whose airplane you fly, but rather how well you operate it and whether or not you’re getting the best out of it day-in and day-out. Or, if your operation is running at its peak. Everyone here at Thrush is dedicated to the success of this industry, and the people who work within it. We not just here to sell you an airplane – but, rather, to help you prosper. You’ll always find a willing ear on the other end of the phone anytime you give us a call with a question about the business or the airplane you’re flying. And if we don’t know the answer, we’ll get it – drawing upon the best base of ag aviation knowledge and experience assembled anywhere. To us, it’s just what a leader should do – and we sincerely hope you won’t ever hesitate to give us a ring. I can promise, we’re always ready to listen.

Bill Lavender Publisher, AgAir Update

From the Cockpit

See you in Savannah! For the third time, the National Agricultural Aviation Association (NAAA) is hosting its annual international convention and exhibition in Savannah, Georgia. AgAir Update (AAU) is very excited about this venue as not only is it in our home state, but Savannah has always been a great convention site. This year promises to be just as good as in the past. The convention begins December 7th with the Welcome Reception, and officially starts Tuesday at noon with the opening of the exhibit hall, although there will be sessions and meetings on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The exhibit hall will be open the usual days of Tuesday at noon until 6 p.m. and on Wednesday 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The convention will end Thursday evening, December 10th with the Farewell Reception and Awards Banquet. As always, the NAAA convention and exhibition promises and delivers an excellent opportunity for ag-pilots worldwide to network, educate and have an all-around good time. Already, registration numbers for the Savannah show are outpacing recently held conventions. There are 500 more roomnights as of the end of September compared to Louisville. With 140 exhibitors and multiple aircraft, the convention cannot accept any additional booths or airplanes - a sold out show! Reading the pages of AgAir Update’s Show Guide about the NAAA convention and exhibition will inform you about what to do, where to go and when to do it. For those of you not yet registered, everything

4E

agairupdate.com

you need to know about how to do that can be found here. The purpose of AgAir Update’s Show Guide is primarily two-fold; promote attendance to the NAAA convention and exhibition and better facilitate the time of those attending. When you read the Show Guide, you will see exhibitors’ ads featuring their products and services. In some cases, you will read a more detailed accounting of what you can expect when stopping by an exhibitor’s booth. You will also read about speakers, the program schedules for attendees and their spouses, as well as many other important events taking place. This year, the Support Committee’s events are open to everyone, so be sure to attend if you find the extra time! Reading AgAir Update’s Show Guide is an exercise in preparation. It will help you identify which sessions and receptions to attend and which exhibitors should be at the top of your list to visit. I hope you can attend all events NAAA has scheduled. I know having quality time with over 140 exhibitors can be a challenge. Planning with AgAir Update’s Show Guide will help you achieve that goal. Be sure that one of the exhibitors you plan to visit is AgAir Update at booth 444. From the entrance, Walk to the left of the NAAA booth straight back. Let’s talk ag-aviation. These are exciting times and AgAir Update is right smack in the middle of them. We will be moving throughout the exhibit hall making videos and taking photos. Be sure to wear your best smile.

Like in past years when the NAAA convention was held in Savannah, AgAir Update will be hosting its third, famous “Hangar Party” Friday night, December 4, before the convention starts. There will be free Georgia award winning barbeque, adult beverages, live music and, of course, Georgia boiled peanuts. To top off the festivities, aircraft exhibitors are planning on have their aircraft on display for you to view at AgAir Update’s hangar. Demonstration flights will be held as well. The presence of the aircraft will be weather dependent. There are over 2,200 hotel rooms available in Perry, Georgia. Recommended hotels are the Holiday Inn Express and the Hampton Inn. After the party Friday night, you will have plenty of time to drive or fly to Savannah, only 180 road miles away, almost all interstate, or you can take a scenic tour through our beautiful state on its less traveled roads. We are expecting several hundred ag-aviation related attendees. Please be one of them. Expect a good time with fantastic opportunities to grow your business and increase your profits and safety when attending the NAAA’s annual convention and exhibition in Savannah, Georgia December 7-10, 2015. Be there! I will be looking for ya!

Leif Isaacson, NAAA President Andrew Moore, NAAA Executive Director

From the NAAA

Savannah’s soiree and Perry’s boiled peanuts will lead to your success by Rick Boardman, NAAA President, and Andrew Moore, NAAA Executive Director On behalf of the National Agricultural Aviation Association, we would like to invite all AgAir Update readers to NAAA’s 49th Annual Convention & Exposition. This year, NAAA returns to one of our most popular convention destinations, Savannah, Ga., a city of Southern charm and hospitality. Our 2010 and 2012 conventions in Savannah were a smashing success, and the Hostess City of the South will once again bend over backwards to make NAAA attendees and exhibitors feel welcome. The NAAA Trade Show is sold out. Among the exhibitors, we’ll have more than a dozen aircraft inside, as well as aircraft exhibited outside the convention center. It doesn’t matter if you are a veteran operator or a fledgling ag pilot, you won’t find a better outlet to help you achieve your personal goals and business objectives. With more than 25 hours of educational programming, a sold-out trade show floor and an expected 1,500 aerial application professionals, you’ll be in good company when you join us in Savannah. We are excited about the top-notch speaker leading off at the 2015 Kickoff Breakfast, Col. Mark W. Tillman. Col. Tillman was Commander of Air Force One on Sept. 11, 2001, and the first pilot to fly the Commander-in-Chief into a war zone. Col. Tillman’s distinguished career spans 30 years in the United States Air Force. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 2004 and promoted to Brigadier General by President George W. Bush—the first military line officer to receive this honor. His message is sure to leave you wanting more! The 2015 General Session will focus on succession planning. Whether you’re a Baby Boomer owner/ operator in your 50s or 60s looking to succession-plan your ag aviation business or a Gen-X/Millennial ag pilot hoping to buy one of those businesses, the decision

about how and when to transition is complex, especially given today’s generational and competitive climates. If you’re in position to buy or sell an aerial application business—or aspire to do so someday—the 2015 NAAA General Session is for you! Three seasoned experts will guide you through the process of determining which avenue is right for you. Shira Harrington, a generational diversity trainer, will explore life and work considerations facing Boomers, Gen Xers and Millennials as they consider their various roles in the succession planning process. Todd Anders, a mergers and acquisitions consultant, will shed light on financial and legal options available to assist you with your short and long-term planning. Finally, Jeremy Lurey, a specialist in family business succession planning, will help you consider appropriate transition roles so that you can maintain continuity for your business and your customers. Even if you don’t aspire to entrepreneurship, this session will be well worth your time. After all, the implications of a business transfer impact more than just buyer and seller. For example, if you’re employed by an operator intent on selling, you may soon be faced with a new operator and a new set of expectations. You’ll want to pay special attention to our panel of NAAA members, including Boomers and Gen Xers, who will share their own recommendations and lessons learned from their succession planning journeys. Several educational sessions are on tap throughout the week, including programming focused on UAVs, cover crops, application technology, chemicals, engine performance and maintenance, security and FAA regulations, helicopters and airframe sessions with Air Tractor and Thrush. The PAASS presenters—our roving safety instructors— will moderate Compaass Rose, an information-sharing session geared toward low-time and prospective ag

pilots on Dec. 9. NAAREF also will host two “Ask the Expert” Speed Mentoring Sessions on Dec. 6 and Dec. 10. This fast-paced orientation session for new and prospective ag pilots consists of a series of speed mentoring rounds led by experienced operators and pilots, insurance representatives and ag schools. The NAAREF Safety Session is highly recommended for aerial applicators of all experience levels. This year the focus is on flying around low-level obstacles, be they unmarked towers or UAVs. At the ASABE Technical Session, members of ASABE’s Aerial Application Committee will address high-interest topics such as advances in pattern testing equipment, low-cost single and dual-camera imaging systems for ag pilots, the influence of nozzle location on spray uniformity for ag aircraft, system response of a variable rate aerial application system, an update on USDA-ARS rotary wing nozzle models, and spray pattern testing results from Operation S.A.F.E. Fly-Ins. Full descriptions are available online at AgAviation.org/asabesession. For specific solutions for your business look no further than NAAA’s two-day exposition. The world’s largest agricultural aviation trade show brings buyers and sellers of aerial application-related products, supplies and services together under one roof. Whether you plan on upgrading your GPS and GIS hardware and software, are in the market for a new aircraft or simply want to investigate new crop protection products available from different chemical companies, you’ll find what you’re after at the 2015 NAAA Trade Show. Our Live Auction is the single most important fundraiser for NAAA. Last year’s auction raised more than $514,000. Pratt & Whitney Canada has donated a brand new PT6-34AG engine for the 2015 Live Auction. But that’s not all; we have an abundance of great auction items, such as a three-blade Hartzell Propeller donated See NAAA page 6E

Ag-Tip Winglets have been re-engineered

Winglet technology for agricultural aircraft provides several benefits. Winglets diffuse wingtip vortices. Independent studies show that the AG-TIPS installation reduces drag, reduces the impact on spray particles for a wider swath and with more spray deposited on target. AG-TIPS winglets are STC’d for most models of Air Tractor, Thrush, and Cessna agricultural aircraft. Production has started, so get your set ordered today in order to enjoy the benefits for next season. Rick Marburger Phone : 701-572 3514 Email: rckmrbrgr@gmail.com

Air Tractor rolls out the 502XP OLNEY TEXAS - At a special event during its annual dealer meeting in October, Air Tractor, Inc. officially introduced a new variation of its popular 500-gallon capacity AT-502 series aircraft. The new airplane, which is expected to soon receive FAA certification, is called the Air Tractor 502XP. According to Air Tractor President Jim Hirsch the XP designator stands for “Xtra Power.” He says the airplane is based upon the AT-502A airframe, powered by the new Pratt & Whitney PT6A140AG turboprop engine and paired with a 4-blade Hartzell prop to produce 867 shaft horsepower. “The 502XP is a remarkable combination of power, stability and productivity,” says Hirsch. “It really performs and flies well with a full 500-gallon load in high and hot conditions.”

new PT6A-140AG engine is really well matched for the 502,” says Hirsch. “Pilots will be able to carry full loads on hot days. It will continue hauling the load all day, every day no matter the temperature. It’s got an extra margin of performance a lot of pilots will appreciate.”

This new airplane confirms rumors circulating since early 2015 that Air Tractor was working to develop a 500-series airplane with a more powerful turbine engine from Pratt & Whitney Canada. At the June 2015 SINDAG Convention in Brazil, Hirsch hinted the company was working closely with Pratt & Whitney Canada on new projects. In September, visitors to Air Tractor reported seeing a different-looking airplane parked on the ramp in front of Plant 2, an Air Tractor sporting a four-blade prop. Over the years Air Tractor operators have chosen AT-502 series planes with 680 shp PT6A-15AG, a 750 shp PT6A-34AG, or the 1050 shp PT6A-60AG engines. “The

Jim Hirsch says the 502XP airframe achieves the best performance from the new PT6A-140AG engine. “The fuselage is actually longer on the engine mount than the 502B, and the airplane utilizes the taller tail of the AT-502A to enhance stability. “The 4-blade prop weighs a little more than the 3-blade 502B propeller,” notes Hirsch. “The engine weighs a little more than PT634AG. So we balanced the tall tail with the heavier prop and engine and the additional horsepower. Comments from long-time Air Tractor 502 series pilots who have flown the 502XP are very positive. They report that the airplane performs and handles really well.”

Pratt & Whitney Canada says the PT6A-140AG engine is a derivative of the PT6A-140 turboshaft engine that has over 100,000 hours of in-service experience in Cessna Caravans, but with a duel port exhaust, more thermodynamic capability and an all-aluminum gearbox housing for improved corrosion protection in the ag environment. The PT6A-140AG engine also achieves 5% better specific fuel consumption than comparable engines, they report.

The Air Tractor 502XP is powered by the 867 SHP Pratt & Whitney PT6A-140AG engine.

The 502XP rollout announcement and evening dinner was held at Air Tractor’s world headquarters and factory in Olney, Texas. The event was attended by employees, Air Tractor dealers, the Air Tractor Board of Directors, representatives from Pratt & Whitney Canada, special guests and invited representatives of local and national media. More information about the Air Tractor 502XP is forthcoming, says Hirsch. “I invite folks to visit us in December at the National Agricultural Aviation Association Convention in Savannah, Georgia. We will have a lot more to talk about and show then.”

Impacting aviation insurance On a fairly regular basis I get asked why I decided to take over Roy Neal Insurance. One of the biggest reasons that I decided to take it over was to have the opportunity to continue the legacy established that makes us an agency that is different than our competitors. I wanted to continue to have an agency that is built on service and serving

people. I have intentionally made service part of who we continue to be. Serving is what we do every day at Roy Neal Insurance. We serve our families, we serve our clients, we serve our team members, we serve our community. Our goal is to make sure that we leave an impact in this world that goes beyond each of us. We believe it is possible to have that type of impact in whatever you do including selling aviation insurance. Praxidyn

Practical…Powerful…Praxidyn Say it again, Praxidyn. The name for this new mechatronics company is fun to say. And like most businesses, there is a story behind the name. Our family loves farming. We come from several generations of farmers. Each generation also has ideas on how to farm more efficiently. Our family is no different. The family farm . . . where good ideas grow!

And this is how the name Praxidyn came to be . . . Praxis is a Greek word meaning practical application of a theory. Dynamis is a Greek word meaning power. Through the years as a family, we would think of 4-H and FFA projects that could be built to share at the local county fair and the Iowa State Fair. Brainstorming while riding in our pickup from farm to farm was a natural occurrence. Each year a new idea was conceived, designed, and built. Each year new skills were gained. Soon the favorite projects were a combination of machines, electronics, and software. A combination called mechatronics. You could

say we put our ideas - theories - into practice. And these were not just ideas, they were powerful ideas that led to practical solutions we wanted on our farm. Engineering degrees and engineering jobs followed, but the farm and entrepreneurship was still a calling. It seemed natural to take what we have done for many years to a new level and our new manufacturing company, Praxidyn, was born. Mixmate is our first product. This product has been an idea wanted on our farm for many years. It seems no matter how accurate records are, there can be mistakes. Get in a hurry and details are missed. A system that would keep records without any additional work was the goal. Mixmate streamlines the mixing process or completely automates chemical mixing with the bonus of automatic records. Intersect is our cloud service connected to Mixmate. Intersect is the easy way to access and manage multiple Mixmate systems. Jobs can be set up in minutes and assigned to Mixmate. Accurate work records are

Booth

generated during the mixing process and synced with Intersect. Reporting can be done from the tablet or from the Intersect cloud service. Intersect will also be the connection to other record keeping services. One of the key features of Intersect will be the ability to pass mixing records automatically to other record keeping systems. This feature will eliminate much of the hand entry of data in the office. As we move forward into the future with our first product, Mixmate, and our cloud service, Intersect, we also move forward with our new manufacturing company - Praxidyn. Attending the NAAA Convention & Exposition is an excellent way to meet individuals from many different areas and we are learning what various operators need and/or want in a chemical mixing system. You spoke. We listened. So remember Praxidyn . . . powerful ideas with practical solutions.

You spoke. We listened. evolved.

Chemical mixing and data processes streamlined. 712-587-9720

NAAA General Session

Time to Land? Preparing the Runway to Succession-Plan Your Business Whether you’re a Baby Boomer owner/operator in your 50s or 60s looking to succession-plan your ag aviation business or a Gen-X/Millennial ag pilot in your 30s or 40s hoping to buy one of those businesses, the decision about how and when to transition is complex, especially given today’s generational and competitive climates. If you’re in position to buy or sell an aerial application business—or aspire to do so someday—the 2015 NAAA General Session is for you! On Dec. 8, a team of experts will explore the myriad facets of succession planning during the General Session of the 2015 convention.

If you’re a Baby Boomer owner/ operator: As an owner/operator, you face two primary considerations: 1) identifying and grooming a successor in-house, and 2) deciding whether to sell to an external third-party. Both options involve careful consideration of your staffing, your finances and even your business values. One of the biggest generational challenges affecting your decision will be the shortage of Generation X and Millennial ag pilot successors and their lack of finances

to purchase your company’s expensive assets. At the same time, you may be courted by chemical companies and other conglomerates seeking to acquire ag aviation businesses in an effort to expand their footprint. Either way, the stakes are high and require meticulous planning to ensure that your company has a lasting legacy.

If you’re a Generation X or Millennial ag pilot: If you have dreams of owning your own ag aviation operation, there are some big decisions you’ll need to make. Chief among them is the million-dollar question: How in the world am I ever going to be able to afford to buy out an existing operator? Once you determine your financing options there is the question of skill set. Chances are you didn’t become an ag pilot because you craved running a business, let alone relished the idea of selling your services to farmers. You’ll need to take an honest look both at your capabilities and career motivators, then decide who can shoulder the responsibilities that you can’t or won’t.

We’ll show you some flight paths: Whichever of these scenarios you face, three seasoned experts will guide you through the process of determining which avenue is right for you. Shira

Harrington, a generational diversity trainer, will explore life and work considerations facing Boomers, Gen Xers and Millennials as they consider their various roles in the succession planning process. As a bonus, the General Session will include a panel of NAAA members, including Boomers and Gen Xers who will share their own recommendations and lessons learned from their succession planning journeys. Even if these scenarios do not fit your situation to a T, a changing of the guard is coming in the agricultural aviation industry, and we all need to be prepared for it. After all, the implications of such transitions impact more than just buyer and seller. For example, if you are an ag pilot who doesn’t aspire to entrepreneurship, you may soon be faced with a new operator and a new set of expectations. Learn what’s coming down the path in this career-altering session!

about the speakers: Todd Anders is a partner with GuideCap, a middle-market investment bank specializing in mergers and acquisitions, financings, fairness opinions and valuations. Todd has significant expertise in structuring and negotiation for large companies and small businesses. During his career he has also practiced securities law, focusing on mergers and acquisitions and general business representation. He received his J.D. from Baylor University Law School and his M.B.A. and L.L.M. (Master of Law) from Southern Methodist University. Anders is a frequent speaker on exit strategies and M&A-related topics.

Field results show it pays to take Control™ by Dennis Gardisser, WRK of Arkansas, dgardisser@wrkofar.com It’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks, but every once in a while I come upon something that is worth repeating. I’m sure many of you have heard the 80-10-10 story that I tell when it comes to drift reduction products: 80 percent of the time nothing happens, 10 percent of the time the result is worse, and 10 percent of the time there is a definite improvement. Laboratory results may be better, but actual field experience has been pretty close to this. For years, Arkansas S.A.F.E. clinics have included one day of field evaluations of drift potential. These evaluations have included a variety of different equipment setups and operating variables and typically include the favored drift reduction additives for the area. The data has been quite sporadic and probably a reflection of the variety of setups, weather conditions, mixing procedures, and operating variables. With all that said, there have been a few products that consistently show a positive response. Control™ from GarrCo Products, Inc., has been one of the products that has consistently shown a reduction in drift potential. A replicated field study was conducted a few years ago to look at 19 different drift control additives and water using two aircraft. The aircraft were selected to give two separate speed scenarios, at 115 and 150 mph. This study appears on Garrco.com. I encourage you to obtain a copy of that report and see how you favorite product performed. Control™ was one of the top performing products in this study. The key to consistency can also hinge back to how well products perform under real field situations. Arkansas had many operators utilizing Control™ as a drift control additive. Some of the comments I hear are:

20E

agairupdate.com

918

• “Best material I’ve ever used.” • “Very easy to mix and load.” • “The material that I used to get on the windshield is gone.” • “Where can I get some Control™ ?” When one starts hearing these types of comments, there may be more to the performance than just good lab results. I was visiting a couple of different operators during the season and overheard conversations where they were either going to borrow some Control™ from someone else’s pallet until their shipment came in or another operator was coming to borrow some from there. This alone may tell the true story on performance. Mixing and compatibility are one of the major issues with any drift reduction additive. John Garr and I met with an Arkansas aerial applicator on a very cold morning to evaluate several different tank mixes. John has some new products under development and the mix results on those are another story, but we tried every way we could think of to cause mix problems with Control™ without success. Control™ mixed very easily under all scenarios, even with almost ice-cold water! I have had any number of operators ask me which drift control products are best. I’m not so sure there is a best product. Remember there are many application variables. I would recommend that operators select a product that consistently shows positive results. Also, additives alone are not the complete answer, although properly utilized; they may provide an extra margin of safety. Operators should use every tool possible to avoid drift, and proper equipment setup and operation will always play a dominant role.

Andy Montague, President of Central Florida Ag Aero (CFAA), recently announced the installation of the manual override (MOR) control for the Pratt Whitney PT6A engine in the company’s Air Tractor 502B simulator, along with the necessary additions to the syllabus. This upgrade is in response to requests from several clients. All PT6A engines intended for single engine aircraft are equipped with a manual override function installed on the fuel control unit. The MOR can be connected to an EPL in the cockpit by an airframe- supplied linkage, if required by the aircraft manufacturer. Historically, few part 137 operations have mandated its inclusion, the most notable exceptions being Canada’s Forest Protection Limited’s fleet of Air Tractor 802’s and the Cayman Islands’ Thrush fleet. However, other organizations have recently begun incorporating this feature into their aircraft, partially in response to reported “roll backs” in the S.E.A.T. sector. Most agree some training would be required to assure a successful outcome if the need to use this equipment should arise, especially at the lower altitudes. The CFAA staff has over 15 years’ experience teaching MOR operations in classroom, aircraft and other level 5 simulators, and one of our recent recurrent clients who has been flying MOR-equipped AG/SEAT-type aircraft for many years gave a big thumbs up on the additional training.

AgriSmart Information Systems 600 Booth

Product preview from AgriSmart Information Systems LLC

Flight Plan Online brings together some of the best technologies to give you a better way to communicate with your customers and manage your business so you can focus on spraying more acres. You and your pilots will be able to spend more productive time in the air and less time doing paperwork. Your customers will appreciate the professional and accurate mapping that Flight Plan Online provides as well as its ease of use. They will welcome the ability to track the progress of their job orders with no phone calls. The most powerful component of Flight plan Online is the ability to process job orders using a centralized online system. This allows you or your customers to submit accurate jobs orders with geo referenced field maps. As job orders come in you can review them for accuracy and formally accept the work. Job orders can also include sensitive area alerts, field worker alerts, and adjacent crop identification to let you assess the level of risk. You can see all outstanding jobs on a map screen to filter those jobs into the most efficient batches for spraying. You can easily schedule job batches with common products and geographic proximity. Flight Plan Online generates all the information needed by the pilot, including loading sheets, individual job maps, and master maps that give an overview of all field locations. You can easily upload shape files to your guidance system to make the most of the guidance technology that is already in your plane. After spraying you can record actual application information and if desired, download the data from your guidance system to include as-sprayed imagery. You can then generate invoices from the job details already captured in the process, even on the same day you spray! Flight Plan Online also acts as your electronic system of record keeping, allowing you to generate a formal application report any time to document regulatory compliance. Flight Plan Online communicates wirelessly with the newer guidance systems and is compatible

with Android and iOS devices, enabling you to operate in a paperless way if desired. Our customers tell us that Flight Plan Online makes their lives better, takes stress out of the cockpit, makes them more efficient internally and brings better communication to their customers.

Bottom line, Flight Plan Online will help you earn more revenue and maximize your profits by making the most efficient use of your resources. For more information on Flight Plan Online visit their website at www.agrismartis.com or give them a call at 800 890-6945. See them at Booth #600 at the show!

GE Aviation’s H Series engine family extends its reach GE Aviation’s H80 engine family continues its growth with more certifications, more deliveries and more applications. The H80 engine has received certification from 10 aviation authorities to date (EASA, FAA, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Uruguay, Russia and South Africa). GE plans to pursue additional certifications as needed, in support of the growing H80-

powered fleet. GE has also received EASA and FAA certification for both the H75 (750 SHP) engine as well as the H85 engine (850 SHP). With this expanded H Series model line, GE Aviation is pursuing new applications worldwide. To date, GE has delivered over 60 H80 engines to support Thrush 510G production. The Thrush 510G has been well received around the globe with H80-powered 510G aircraft in operation in nine countries on four continents. Included in these deliveries were H80 engines to support an order for 20 510G aircraft by Beidahuang General Aviation Company of China, the largest single order of Thrush Aircraft ever. “With two full years of service in diverse environments, the engine’s versatility and performance have become clear,” says Jim Stoker, President & Managing Executive of GE’s Business & General Aviation Turboprops. “As we approach our 200th engine delivery, we’re fulfilling our promise to reshape this market by providing innovative technologies like the Electronic Engine Control which is expected to enter service on the Nextant G90XT and more engine choices for operators.” In 2014, GE Aviation’s H Series engine powered four first flights of all new and engine STC retrofit aircraft: CAIGA’s AG300, an H85–powered, five-seat, light single-engine pressurized turboprop business aircraft with a carbon fiber composite airframe; Nextant Aerospace’s G90XT, a reimagined King Air C90 aircraft featuring new H75 engines, new propellers, Garmin G1000 avionics and new paint and interior; Technoavia’s all-new H80-powered Rysachok twin engine aircraft; Air Tech’s L410 engine upgrade, featuring new H75 engines and enhanced aircraft performance. GE Aviation has taken steps to ensure customers have support around the world. In 2014, GE added two new Authorized Service Centers (ASC’s) in the United States: Mid-Continent Aviation in Hayti, MO and Souther Field Aviation in Americus, GA. GE is also

authorizing new ASC points in South America like Air Andes in Argentina, to support recent and upcoming deliveries. GE Aviation expects to add additional ASC points in 2015 as the number H Series powered aircraft continues to increase. Line maintenance courses are offered to both ASC’s and customers alike to ensure that both learn how to keep their engines in top operating condition. The H80 turboprop engine family incorporates GE’s 3-D aerodynamic design techniques and advanced materials to create a powerful, fuel-efficient, durable engine with no recurrent fuel nozzle inspections and no hot section inspection. The engines feature a service life of 3,600 flight-hours or 6,600 cycles between overhauls. The H80 engine family also offers a standard auto start and limiting unit to simplify engine startup as well as a choice of propeller governors to allow customers flexibility in propeller selection. Lane Aviation

845

Booth

Celebrating 70 years Lane Aviation, Inc. is thrilled to be celebrating its 70th year in business. Our company prides itself on maintaining strict business ethic practices that translates into integrity for every facet of Lane Aviation. We believe this honesty is what has gained trust amongst so many customers and allowed us to become one of the leading Air Tractor distributors for sales, service, and support. Lane Aviation’s association with agricultural application began with George Lane and Leland Snow in College Station, Texas in 1957: Leland was demonstrating the S2A. George gave Leland a deposit on one of the first five built! Shortly thereafter, Lane Aviation became a dealer for Snow Aircraft. Therefore, when Leland Snow started Air Tractor, Lane Aviation’s business relationship with Snow was already well established. Lane Aviation was appointed the first Air Tractor dealer in 1974. Since then, Lane Aviation has sold more Air Tractors than anyone else in the world, making it the #1 Air Tractor dealer. Lane Aviation has always been a family-run company. One of George’s sons, Grant Lane, is the President of Lane Aviation. Mark Lane, George’s other son, is the Chief Pilot for the ag operation at Lane Aviation. Grant is now bringing a third generation to the business

and, with it, a fresh perspective. Grant’s son, Logan Lane, is a pilot and graduate of Texas A&M University. Grant’s life-long experience in the ag aviation business makes him the perfect mentor. Logan is learning how customers have come to count on Grant’s highly personalized customer service skills. Whether a customer is upgrading his Air Tractor fleet, making the transition to Air Tractor or to turbine power, Grant is there to help and advise every step of the way. Lane Aviation, Inc., operates from its own airport with the identifier of T54. The maintenance facility can handle every type of Air Tractor aircraft maintenance, as well as most other ag planes. This includes annual and routine inspections, major airframe repairs, and engine exchanges. If necessary, we can also facilitate the out-sourcing of major engine repairs. With Air Tractor factory-training and FAA certified A&P and IA mechanics, customers are assured of the highest quality work on their aircraft. Also located at Lane Air Park is the fully stocked parts department of Lane Aviation. P&WC’s new PT6A-140AG: more engine, zero compromise Pratt & Whitney Canada’s (P&WC) new PT6A140AG engine raises the bar by setting new industry benchmarks for performance and efficiency in the Agricultural market. It is the most powerful and reliable engine in its class, and delivers 15% more power at 5% better specific fuel consumption (SFC). A derivative of the PT6A-140 currently installed on the Cessna Grand Caravan EX, the PT6A-140AG benefits from this pedigree of proven reliability, with already over 100,000 hours of excellent in-service experience. Additionally, with no cycle limitations on TBO, the PT6A-140AG will continue to be a productive asset for any operator long after similar engines have been sent in for overhaul. “The PT6A engine family is the global leader in the Ag industry, and we at P&WC continually aim at making the best even better,” says Denis Parisien, Vice President, General Aviation, P&WC. “Our ongoing innovation has enabled us to incorporate the most advanced manufacturing technologies, processes and materials into the new -140AG, providing increased engine power and efficiency. The Pratt & Whitney Eagle has been part of the Ag industry for over 75 years, and we will continue to provide innovative products and services to make agricultural operations run more efficiently and maximize operator profits.” The PT6A-140AG engine is introduced on Air Tractor’s newly launched AT-502XP, a more powerful version of its widely popular AT-502B. At 867 mechanical shaft horsepower (SHP) and 1,075 thermodynamic SHP, no other engine in this class can compare; it provides the highest takeoff and climb capability in the 500-gallon Ag aircraft market. Additionally, with no mandatory warm-up or cool-down time requirements, the PT6A140AG is ready to go to work when you are.

Pedigree of a Leader Making dependable engines is part of P&WC’s DNA, and in terms of reliability, the PT6A-140AG has been built on the benchmark pedigree of a leader. The reliability rates for the PT6A engine family are an unparalleled three times better than industry standards. The engine

38E

agairupdate.com

family has an astounding 365 million hours of flight on more than 125 aircraft applications; that’s roughly 90 per cent more hours and almost 100 more applications than other engines in the same category. The engine’s performance is best-in-class for extreme ‘hot and high’ environments. The PT6A-140AG engine enables full-load takeoffs with maximum power available up to 111˚F (44˚C), allowing Ag operators to not only stay productive but actually increase productivity and grow their profit margins.

3,600-Hour TBO, Not Limited by Cycles The PT6A’s modular design and externally mounted fuel nozzles enable simple routine inspections to be done while still on wing, in the field or in the hangar. This eliminates surprises, reduces costs and provides peace of mind going into the spray season. More

time on wing means more revenue. The 3,600 hour TBO, can be extended up to 8,000 hours or 15 years depending on the operation. “Furthermore, TBO for the PT6A-140AG, as for all PT6A models, is not limited by cycles, which maximizes engine time-on-wing and makes it the right choice for commercial operations in the Ag market, says Parisien. Covington Aircraft, a trusted PT6A and radial engine service provider to the agricultural market, has also been appointed as a Designated Overhaul Facility (DOF) for the PT6A140AG as it enters service.” The new PT6A-140AG engine will be on display along with the Air Tractor AT-502XP it powers at the National Agricultural Aviation Association (NAAA) Annual Convention, December 7 – 10 in Savannah, Georgia.

Kimmel Aviation Ins. Kimmel Aviation Insurance arose from a need to write hard to find and much needed insurance on cropdusters in 1972. The insurance side of the business started very pragmatically as customers were coming to the Kimmel Aviation Ag Aircraft dealership to trade in their $500 converted Super Cubs and Stearmans for the more productive and shiny new Cessna Ag Wagons and Ag Trucks. The $20,000 price tag and the ever evolving regulatory environment in the early 1970s mandated that all certified applicators must carry a minimum liability insurance policy or a bond

Booth

of $10,000. Cessna Finance also wanted to make sure their loans were protected. Very few companies would insure ag aircraft back in the early 1970s so Dorothy Kimmel made it her mission to find that coverage for their customers. From its humble beginnings, the insurance part of the business grew and formally incorporated Kimmel Aviation Insurance Agency, Inc. in 1979. Over the years, Dorothy Kimmel has received numerous industry awards including, but not limited to MAAA Outstanding Service Award – 1975, MAAA President’s Award – 1985, WMAAA President, 15 years WMAAA Director to the WNAAA, WNAAA Vice Pres. 1991, WNAAA President 1992, Lee Abide Award – 1998, Arkansas (AAAA) Distinguished service award 2006, MAAA Honorary Lifetime Membership Award – 2006. In addition, Dorothy also served on numerous committees and served both the NAAA and MAAA for each of her 45+ years as a member of both organizations. Her most outstanding achievement was to raise a family of four boys, all who entered the ag aviation field and chose career paths closely related to ag aviation. Although Dorothy is still active in the agency, her youngest son, Frank Kimmel, took over the day to day operations of Kimmel Aviation Insurance Agency in 2004. Frank brings with him 14,000 hours of flying experience including 8000+ as an ag pilot. Frank also has his own pedigree of accomplishments — Kenny & Michael Christmas, Christmas Flying Service, SHELBY, MISSISSIPPI including , 1992 John Horne Memorial Safety award (NAAA), Novartis Leadership training delegate – 1998, NAAA Related Service Award – 2008, Arkansas (AAAA) Outstanding Service Award 2008, and the MAAA Allied Industry Associate of the year 2010. In addition to the ag association awards, Frank was elected by his aviation insurance peers to serve on the Aviation Insurance Association (AIA) Board of Directors in 2005. He served as the Director of the Domestic Agents and Brokers Division until he was elected Vice President of the AIA in 2009 and then AIA President for 2011 – 2012. As you can see, it is true when their ads say, “When you need a respected voice to work for you, “The Kimmel’s Have You Covered”!”

Kawak Aviation

Kawak Aviation Technologies – committed to customer success

Every business must respond to changing conditions within the industry be it regulatory, market, rising costs, competition, weather, or otherwise. The tendency in a lean year is to pull in your horns on capital investments and evaluate where you can cut costs. In truth, this is precisely the time you should be investing in technology and infrastructure to make your operation more efficient. Attempting to accomplish a higher level of efficiency exclusively through cost cutting seldom yields a positive result. The more predictable way to improve your efficiency is investing in better performing and more reliable equipment. The result is fewer headaches, higher productivity, increased profitability, a better job for your customer and…you get to show up at the job looking polished and professional rather than the Keystone Cops of the crop dusting business. While some growers tend to fixate on what is the cheapest, the successful ones focus on where their best value is. Cheaper seldom equates to being the best value as one generally gets what one pays for. The same can be said for the decisions you as the aerial applicator make in choosing and equipping an aircraft. A modern well outfitted and maintained aircraft will be more efficient and ultimately profitable than those aircraft

that are lagging behind in technology and performance. Better equipment will also produce a better application. By bringing good value to your customers you contribute to their success. How do you bring the best value to your customers? Similarly, when you make decisions regarding the companies that supply you with aircraft and equipment, you should be looking for those products and companies that bring the most value to your operation which in turn contributes to your success. Kawak’s mission over the last 23 years is simple. Contribute positively to our customer’s success and in turn they will contribute to Kawak’s success. Kawak provides solutions for ineffective and unreliable equipment, technological innovations for precision application, improvements in safety and pilot comfort, and exceptional customer support. Kawak products provide the technology to help build your businesses infrastructure for the future. What changing conditions do you have to adapt to this season or in preparation for next season?

Hershey Flying Service is moving forward, and Storm Cutters proved they can work Hershey Flying Service broke ground this past summer on a new 22,000 square foot maintenance facility in David City, Nebraska. We are looking to move into the new facility during the summer of 2016. This is a step forward to increase our capabilities to be more efficient building parts and servicing aircraft. Storm Cutters (Wire Strike Protection) for the Air Tractor 300-800 series just finished their first season in the field. We had two operators, both flying AT 502s, inform us that they struck power lines and successfully cut the lines with minimal damage to the aircraft. One pilot was working among wind turbines when he was distracted by a turbine and hit a power line. The other pilot was working a field with a house located in it, and a power line was running from the road to the house, which he didn’t notice. He cut the power line with both gear legs and the severed section wrapped around the

spray pump. Storm Cutters are a onetime purchase that is inexpensive insurance for both plane and pilot. We have renewed interest from several operators in the “Fat Cat” program. Hershey has an STC modification to take an A or B model Ag Cat and turn it into a 500 gallon aircraft. We have Fat Cats operating in a few states and are currently working on one that will be going to California. If you are in the market for a 500 gallon Ag Cat that will increase your productivity without breaking the bank this might be a fit for your operation. We truly are “Everything Ag Cat and More”, so if you are looking for wire cutters for an Air Tractor, tail springs for a Weatherly or Piper Brave, or anything for an Ag Cat give us a call.

Pickett Equipment

Fast and reliable. It’s what we do. It’s 2pm. The winds are calm, you’ve got your hand on the throttle and you’re ready to taxi. So why aren’t you? Ah. Your pump. That hunk of cast iron that you meant to replace last season (or was it the season before that?) has finally blown its seal and instead of spraying crops, you’re spraying your airstrip. It’s ok; you’ve got a spare seal. But what is that impromptu seal job gonna cost you? How many minutes of daylight? How many men working on it? How much fuel burned and time spent idling? Or, maybe you’re not so lucky. Maybe your engine bent a push-rod, or the rings finally gave up, or a capacitor blew. Does the cause really matter when you’re looking for a pump rather than at the horizon? At money being spent rather than earned? As equipment providers, we know that your loading equipment is not always the focus of your thoughts. So long as it works, it takes a backseat. But should it? Have

you ever thought, “that hot section inspection can wait until next year,” or, “eh, that prop probably has another few weeks before overhaul.” Of course not. “Probably” should have no place in an operator’s vocabulary.

Booth

We’re come a long way in providing the fastest equipment we can. We’ve talked to operators to determine how to best supply them. We’re not a “no, sir, we don’t do that,” type of company.

So why do that with your pump? After all, isn’t loading your aircraft a critical aspect of your business? Then why run slow pumps? Why put your faith in a cheap engine? Why not use the best equipment? We’ve been in this industry since the 70’s. In that time, we’ve learned a lot. Speed matters, which is why we sell the equipment we do; because it’s the fastest. When this industry first started, re-purposed Stearmans were common; how many still spray today? It’s the same with pumps. The pumps and motors at the industry’s birth were 1-1/2”- 2” pumps, powered by 3-5HP engines and motors. Heck, that’s a fuel pump now. Can you imagine filling an 802 with that?

When the phone rings when we’re heading out the door at the end of the day, we answer it. When an order comes in, it usually goes out the same day, even if that means pushing back dinner plans. We are family owned and operated, just like you. We have a stake in everything that goes on within our company. Suffice it to say we’ll do everything we can to ensure you’re satisfied. We are Bill, Bailey, Mary, Joey and Jean. We are Pickett Equipment.

Aviation Specialties Unlimited

NVGs improve profitability and safety when flying at night Many ag air operators already understand the benefits of night flight – namely extended operations, improved spray patterns and reduced adverse environmental impact. Night Vision Goggles (NVGs), a proven technology for military and commercial aviation operators, is now emerging within the ag air community as an enabling technology. Ag Air operators employing NVGs can improve profitability and safety when flying at night. NVGs allow pilots to view crops, terrain, trees, man-made obstructions and other hazards throughout the flight envelope, providing the pilot with improved situational awareness. The NVG uses available light – such as moon and star light, aircraft lights and artificial lighting – then amplifies the light and presents a view of the terrain that approximates daytime imagery. And it does so

without any lag. Even on the darkest of nights, the NVG continues to provide the pilot with a usable image due to significant recent performance advancements within the image intensifier tube. These enhancements include the use of P45 white phosphor, significantly increased signal to noise ratios, very high resolution and autogating. This military grade technology is now available to ag air operators. Aviation Specialties Unlimited (ASU), which has pioneered NVG flight for more than 20 years, has worked closely with ag air operators such as Valley Air Services (of Idaho) as they transitioned to NVG operations. The transition includes modifying the aircraft lighting system under STC to optimize the performance of the NVG and flight training. ASU, and its team of aircraft technicians and flight instructors, provide transition

services at its Boise-based hangar, or at the operator’s location, through its Part 145 Repair Station and Part 141 Flight School. Additionally, ASU provides continued airworthiness services for the airplane, NVG and pilots. Bruce Hubler, President of Valley Air Services, has been flying three aircraft with NVGs for the past two ag seasons. “Flying on a very dark night, you can be more proficient in your turns, and get the same job done faster, burning less fuel than you can without flying NVGs. They basically paid for themselves during my first season flying with them,” said Hubler. To learn how NVGs can assist your ag operation, please visit the ASU stand while at NAAA. Or, contact sales@asu-nvg.com or call 844-ASU-INFO for more information.

Live and Silent Auctions The Live Auction at the NAAA Convention & Exposition continues to be one of the most popular and successful fundraisers for the Association. When it comes to high-stakes entertainment, the intrigue, drama and excitement of NAAA’s Live Auction is hard to beat, which is why it has become one of the signature events at each convention. The Live Auction on “Convention Tuesday” is very important to NAAA from a fundraising standpoint, so enjoy the reception food and beverages and bring your checkbooks. Shhhh! NAAA also holds a Silent Auction each year. Bidding opens on Tuesday and closes on Wednesday afternoon. The Live Auction continues to be one of the most popular and financially successful fundraisers for the Association. But NAAA could not accomplish this without the support of our many friends and allies. We are grateful to our Allied Industry, State Associations and aerial applicator supporters. All auction donations, big or small, are greatly appreciated, and NAAA recognizes all donations in Association publications and on the NAAA website. The earlier you come forward, the more exposure you’ll get. Live Auction reception sponsored by Syngenta.

Thank You to Auction Supporters The 2014 NAAA Live Auction raised $519,100 to support NAAA programs and the Silent Auction raised $15,503. We are very thankful to all of the companies that support NAAA programs by donating an auction item. We very much appreciate the support of Pratt & Whitney Canada for donating another brand new PT6A-34AG Engine in 2014. There were several bidders for the engine, but Terry Jordan of Jordan Air in Hugoton, Kansas, won the bid at $380,000.

growers time. In order to see high yield results, growers must take an active role in pest management. The use of aerial applied products often saves growers time. This can be critical during planting and throughout the growing season when pests or disease threaten a crop.

Here’s to everything you do for American agriculture.

Agricultural aviation and FMC have the same goal – to encourage best management practices. An important player in the overall agriculture industry, aerial application is a critical component of high-yield agriculture. The focus for the grower must be to produce maximum yield. By utilizing aerial applications, growers can be more efficient and effective with their time and resources. This type of best management practice is encouraged by FMC.

Crop yields wouldn’t be the same without support from above. Because of your skills and our innovative crop protection products, growers can reach new heights in controlling pests that compromise crop yield and quality. Davidon

Davidon would like to thank our customers for a successful and productive year. Please stop by our booth at the NAAA Convention in Savannah, GA and browse our products, along with the improvements we have made. Be sure to check out our new Gen 4 nozzle and new brackets. Davidon’s custom boom clamps can be made to any size, as well as custom spray systems that include extruded booms with a reinforcement running down the center of the boom. We allow for more material at the trailing edge and deeper threads to help prevent leaking. Also, we have the capability to mount the nozzle on the top, bottom, or rear of the boom. Davidon’s Tri-Set Nozzle, which allows for three deflection angles, has been updated with an aluminum back housing which eliminates cracking and cross threading where it is attached to the boom. Don’t forget about DRP955, the best weapon for the war on drift. Tested by multiple universities, they agree that DRP-955 increases the amount of spray reaching the target.

TracMap

Booth

TracMap launches Flight 3 at NAAA Convention Launching at the NAAA 2015 Convention is the TracMap Flight 3 – the latest development from GPS guidance system company TracMap. TracMap’s reputation for developing easy to use and reliable GPS systems is further strengthened by the latest development with Flight 3. Having a focus on continuous innovation and a culture of listening to our customers have meant we have been able to offer greater enhancements to the TracMap system based on the needs of our customers.

Flight 3 key improvements: Enhanced graphics Does it look better – of course, but the real advantage is in sharper detail, meaning that you can spend less time looking at the screen and get the exact picture in a glance. Hazzard’s can be easily identified; boundaries are clear, ensuring more accurate flying for greater coverage. That’s safer and more efficient. Faster processor Navigating through the menu functionality has improved significantly with crisper and faster scrolling capability making it easy to find and select the option you need. Also, for larger jobs with more data that

needs to be captured and processed, the faster processer makes all the difference. With the upgrade in Flight 3, the time it takes for the data to be sent to you and available to use is dramatically reduced, saving you time and money by being as efficient as possible for your operation activities. Improved night flying capability Modifications to our current dimming capability have enabled the intensity of the lightbar brightness and display screen to be adjustable to suit the conditions. So, whether you’re flying in the brightness of daylight or the darkness of night, the lightbar and display screen will always be easy to read. External Shortcut Keys The option of 4 new customizable Shortcut Keys will enable a pilot to quickly access preset menu options of their choice, making life just that much easier.

Customer service second to none And the exceptional customer service that you have come to expect and our customers rave about, is still second to none. TracMap prides itself on the way in which we work with customers to resolve any issues that arise, and being available at any time of the day means a great deal to our customers.

A configurable system, easily tailored to the individual needs of each customer TracMap has been developed with configurable menu’s, so the GPS system is easily tailored to the needs of each customer, ensuring it is always still simple to use and uncluttered. Bobby Evans, an aerial sprayer in Georgia, says he is very happy with his change to TracMap - he loves it! “I was not too sure, as I don’t like to change from what I already know”, said Bobby, but “it’s straightforward and uncomplicated, which is great. The guidance patterns are easy to use, and it works every time I turn it on.” Don’t take our word for it – listen to our customers. The new Flight 3 has many great enhancements and all in the same hardware with the same menu functionality – so no new system to learn, just extra advantages. As always, TracMap will continue to provide ongoing support to all our customers currently with previous versions – Flight Lite and Flight Pro. So if you’re keen to upgrade or looking to get your first TracMap system come and see us at our booth and talk with Mark – he’ll assure you that TracMap Flight 3 will do the job you need, easily, every time.

“We understand the pressure our customers are under to deliver to their customers. It’s frustrating and costly when you can’t complete a job, so we are happy to be available when our customers need us to get the solution they need, fast” says Sales Manager, Mark Hornback.

Mark Hornback – TracMap Sales Manager

Our customers back this up, with Bart Alexander of Chem Air, LA stating “The true selling point for us has been the awesome support TracMap offers. TracMap is always seeking feedback from the application industry in order to ensure they are offering the best product and service possible, and I personally love knowing that the answer to any question I have is a phone call or email away” said Bart.

Trotter Controls

Announcing DataVault FORT WORTH, TEXAS — Trotter Controls, Inc announces the addition of DataVault to the AeroCloud family of firefighting and telemetry products. Building on more than 20 years of experience in the aerial firefighting industry, the AeroCloud DataVault is a uniquely open platform which enables operators to easily comply with the increasingly stringent reporting needs of authorities worldwide. Available to order now, DataVault is a high performance telemetry and data acquisition system tailored to meet the needs of the aerial fire-fighting community. For FRDS GEN II systems, the DataVault simply plugs into the Pilot Interface Unit to access all gate parameters via a proprietary internal data bus. Although optimized for use with the FRDS Gen II, DataVault is a truly open “plug and play” device. For third party gate controllers, the DataVault can either analyse the gate controller’s serial bus or monitor analog and digital sensors directly to capture proof of delivery data according to both NAFC and USFC requirements. The DataVault already supports basic connectivity with the ConAir gate controller allowing users of this

equipment to easily comply with NAFC and upcoming USFS real time reporting and tracking requirements. A built-in FCC approved module is used to send gate and aircraft data in near real time via the Iridium satellite constellation for display to an operator or fire-fighting authority. With its internal GPS and TSO dual function antenna, DataVault provides advanced tracking services which relay position data via the Iridium network to TracPlus (the NAFC AFAMS integration partner for Australia, and tracking service provider) on a configurable time or distance basis. The optional Pilot Message Interface allows the pilot to adjust easily the tracking transmission interval parameter to a specific time or geo-fence to optimize transmission bandwidth when operating in limited geographical territory. The Pilot Message Interface, available in early 2016, also supports transmission of geo-tagged waypoint markers such as “persons in danger” or “property at risk”. In conjunction with TracPlus, acknowledged Distress Messaging and ground to air text messages are also supported without the need for sim cards. DataVault has both fixed and removable data storage,

which when combined with its internal motion sensors, enables deep post-mission analysis to assess delivery efficiency, aircraft utilization and pilot performance. Internal memory constantly records more than 40 parameters, including geo-tags, at intervals as short as 0.1s and has capacity for more than 1,000 flight hours. Information can also be collected on a USB stick and uploaded to an internet accessible database for mission replay, plotting, reporting and sharing data with authorized third parties. Configured via a comprehensive set of PC based DataVault tools, the “Pro” model delivers the ability to add user digital or analog inputs which can be easily scaled to actual units of measure, recorded and transmitted in real time to a base station via third-party products such as TracMap, or FlightCell’s DMZ device. Pro models of the DataVault include the ability to drive electric motors, on/off and proportional valves to enable control of other equipment on the aircraft. For further information or to learn more about how the AeroCloud product family can help maximize the efficiency of your aerial operations, contact Carey Gray at Trotter Controls Inc, 817-535-2243 or carey@ trottercontrols.com www.aerocloud.us

Picture yourself… Flying your airplane across this prescription map with 9 different rates including 0, never touching the dump handle, and having the material work out within a few hundred pounds. Now picture this in a 20 mph wind and having the system correct for the 40 mph swing in groundspeed.

You may react by saying, “We don’t have any customers asking for dry prescription or ‘variable rate’ applications.” Our standard answer is you never will if you aren’t prepared but if you never do the first prescription job, you will always use this system to your benefit and your customer’s benefit by a constant rate application in any wind condition. Air Repair, Inc. customer base of the units currently is about 60 operators that have made prescription application of dry material an integral part of their business. The Air Repair, Inc. Hydraulic Gate Control System interfaces with the industry leading Satloc G4 to provide instantaneous gate control on 3 levels. Level 1 is a gate positioner only, which opens the gate to a pilot selected setting and repeats that setting with no drift or holding your knee against the handle. This level runs with no GPS signal and can be used for small fields or free hand trim. Level 2 introduces GPS ground speed to correct 1/16” for every 5-mph change in groundspeed from the pilot selected base working speed of that aircraft. This gives you a constant rate of application with automatic gate movement regardless of wind or changes in groundspeed. The highest level, Level 3, is run through a prescription map in the G4 that controls the gate movement for

Kickoff Breakfast Col. Mark Tillman, Commander of Air Force One on 9/11 will serve as NAAA Convention Kickoff Breakfast Speaker

For political reasons he was not confirmed by the Senate, hence Tillman retired as a Colonel.

NAAA is excited to announce that Colonel (retired) Mark W. Tillman, Former Commander of Air Force One on 9/11/2001, will serve as the Kickoff Breakfast speaker at the 2015 NAAA Convention on Monday, Dec. 7.

Sponsored by BASF

Please join us at this year’s NAAA Convention to hear Col. Tillman’s first-hand accounts of remarkable moments in history.

Chosen as the nation’s 12th Presidential pilot, Col. Tillman served as pilot and commander of Air Force One from 2001-2009. Col. Tillman was at the controls of Air Force One through numerous national events. Most notably, he protected the President on September 11, 2001 by keeping him out of harm’s way and connecting the flying oval office to the nation’s first responders.

Col. Tillman’s distinguished career spans 30 years in the United States Air Force. Another historic event was being the first pilot to fly the Commander-in-Chief into a war zone. Col. Tillman flew President George W. Bush into Iraq for Thanksgiving in 2003. The challenge was unprecedented--transport the most targeted man in the world into the heart of terrorism. One mistake would have left the President open to attack and cost the lives of U.S. service members. Col. Tillman personally orchestrated and executed the covert operation with flawless success. His planning, done in complete secrecy, allowed for a complete surprise to the entire world. Col. Tillman’s distinguished career spans 30 years in the United States Air Force. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 2004 and promoted to Brigadier General by the President of the United States—the first military line officer to receive this honor.

Covington Aircraft Engines

539 Booth

Covington Aircraft’s Tunica, Mississippi division expands, again! Since 1972, Covington Aircraft has worked very hard maintaining their four core values of integrity, dependability, affordability and quality service. Quality Service is one attribute that Covington is constantly monitoring and has always taken very serious. Aaron Abbott, Covington’s Executive Vice President, says “Just because we think we’re serving the customers’ needs doesn’t always make it true. We depend on our customers to tell us whether we’re making the grade or not. As we’ve traveled to the many AG shows, a repeated comment has surfaced over the last few years.” We wish you were more accessible and closer to us along the Mississippi River Delta.” In response to the requests of our customers, in 2012 Covington Aircraft opened a facility in Tunica, MS. This was done so that AG operators in the Delta could have

the same Dependable Covington service closer to home. Over the past three years, Covington has been able to respond quickly to the needs of their customers limiting downtime. Because of the success and the growing demand on this facility, Covington’s Tunica facility has expanded once again. Recently they have moved into a 5000 square foot shop space to go along with their 20,000 square foot hangar. All located at the Tunica, Mississippi airport. By adding balancing equipment, lathes, and enhanced NDT capabilities in the new shop space, Covington Tunica is able to perform complete hot sections and power sections on-site. “Our intentions in Tunica are to support our customers with rental power sections, engines and props” says Luke Abbott, Covington Aircraft Engines President and Operations Manager of the Tunica location. “Whether a job requires the use of our airborne Mobile Response

Team, one of our Mobile Response Team trucks, or our Tunica fly-in facility, we are only minutes away from supporting a customer that needs assistance. We also inventory the accessories, parts and products that our customers need. Whether you fly into our Tunica facility or we come to yours, you will be able to depend on our Tunica crew and you can expect the same great service you have received from Covington Aircraft over the past 40 years. We are serious about working and living here in the Delta, close to our customers.” The Tunica location is capable of taking care of your needs whether it’s an older PT6A-20 or the new PT6A140AG or even a radial engine. With Covington’s extensive rental pool, Pratt & Whitney Canada warranty support, and new or overhauled parts and engines; Covington is proud to be a part of what’s going on in the Mississippi Delta. SATLOC

Satloc announces new team, LSIII logging tool

Booth

New Team Satloc is proud to bring aboard a new group to enhance the offering of our long-term staff members and ensure its long-term commitment to the agricultural aviation industry. Director of Air Business John Lueger, former AgJunction Director of Product Management, has led development teams for OEM factory integration initiatives across all product lines. Prior to joining the company, John held Product Management roles with John Deere. Product Manager Mitch Brown has held roles at Cessna and Hawker Beech, recently serving as Crew Chief for the Cessna Citation Latitude experimental/certification program. Technical Specialist Lance Schellhorn is a former Cessna Avionics Technician for their experimental flight test program and has held similar roles at Bombardier and the Department of Defense. Kailey Halstead has joined the team as Sales Support Specialist, taking on order entry and warranty returns, and Software Engineer Lucas Finger aids in development of MapStar and LiteStar III.

Satloc looks to add logging capabilities to LiteStar III in early 2016

Satloc HQ

Cell-based modem A cell-based modem can be used with the G4 in order to upload and download data in real-time. Satloc HQ can be used to send Job files on-the-fly to an aircraft or multiple aircraft. Job files are sent to specific G4s and stored in the cloud until downloading with a button push on the G4. Job files can be created and stored in HQ. Log files are associated with stored Job files for printing and emailing reports.

Be sure to stop by Booth 717 to meet the new team and see some familiar faces.

Satloc HQ is a web-based program for viewing aircraft and field data over Google Earth or Bing Maps. With Satloc HQ, aircraft can be tracked in real-time, log files can be stored and reviewed, job files can be created and the G4 can be accessed through remote access. Weather data can be accessed through HQ and locations can be pinpointed through Lat/Lon searches or through entry of legal descriptions (Section/Township/Range). Spray Data reports and As-Applied maps can be generated and emailed straight from Satloc HQ

LSIII Logger

Wi-Fi Data Movement

The LiteStar III logger is a continuation of the LSIII design, allowing you to store and export as-applied data along with LSIII’s current offering, which serves as a low-cost option, providing a quick ROI, a simplified navigation, and also includes the ultra-bright L7 Lightbar.

Every G4 is equipped with an optional Wi-Fi modem and router with amplifying antenna to allow logs and jobs to be synced with an office computer or tablet PC. The modem can be used to automatically move data from the aircraft to the office (or mobile device) without having to manually transfer through a USB stick.

These team members join Sales Manager Mike Thurman, who has been with the team since 2006, along with Software Engineer Ian McVay, who has served 36 years with Satloc.

Remote Access The Satloc G4 includes an optional connectivity kit and a subscription to Satloc HQ, the web-based program designed for the aerial application industry. This allows G4 to be accessed in real time from any remote tablet or computer through HQ. Through HQ, the G4 can be emulated when the G4 is connected with a cell-based modem. This allows the pilot to pass access to another location so buttons can be activated remotely. This can be used for training and/or trouble-shooting..
