NEW YEAR, NEW HOPES For most people, including myself, as we approach the end of the year, we reflect on the things we loved, things we regret, and things we hope will eventually change. Last year, was an incredible year for us at Wire Magazine 8F MBVODIFE a number of amazing editorial features and brought in some incredible writers, including local psychologist Dr. Gregg Pizzi; arts and culture writer, James Cubby; and internationally known cosmetic dentest, Dr. Hamid Nassery. 8F BMTP MBVODIFE B NBKPS JOJUJBUJWF UP QSPWJEF PVS readers with exclusive events at some of the most opulent venues in South Florida. From Wire Magazine’s Traveling Brunch to the various events we have hosted at variety of stores, hotels, restaurants, bars, and clubs, we have worked really hard to provide you with an opportunity to get up close and personal with us, our advertisers, and your fellow readers! To be honest, I can’t tell you how amazed I have been at the support and dedication of our readers. My hope is that with the fear of a potential property tax increase, these residents will learn their lesson: if they want to keep their property taxes low, they need to support the local bars, clubs, restaurants, and hotels.
As for our community, I am very concerned about the many businesses in Miami Beach that are regularly affected by the over regulation and bureaucracy of Miami Beach City government. In 2011, my hope is that these residents will work with local businesses to find compromises on issues affecting them, as opposed to trying to pass loose legislation that results in the closing of businesses and, of course, the loss of millions of dollars in tax revenue for the City of Miami Beach. I also hope that City of Miami Beach Commissioners will finally smell the roses and do a complete overhaul of the permitting process, code enforcement, and staffing for the City. If not, I hope that this will be the year that all of the businesses in Miami Beach will stand together and fight back! Stay tuned, as we will continue to cover these issues, along with our usual coverage of the arts, culture, entertainment, celebrities, and the various personalities that make South Florida so great! It's easier to make commitments to change, knowing they are doomed to failure, than it is to face the potential epic fail of a fresh new year. COVER STORY +03(& '3&*3& 4$6-1503 0' '*-.
BY THOMAS BARKER It’s amazing how one image can evoke so many emotions, tell an untold story, or perfectly capture a moment in time. For millions of years, thousands of artists and photographers have been able to show the world a MJUUMF QJFDF PG IJTUPSZ UISPVHI UIFJS XPSL 8IFUIFS JU T B beautiful painting by Leonardo De Vinci or an outlandish photograph by David La Chappelle, there is a great thing to be said about the art of creating the perfect image. A couple of months ago, a friend of mine stumbled across the Facebook profile of local photographer, Jorge Freire, and immediately called us. Turns out that, while he was cruising Facebook, he clicked on a picture of a beautiful guy with no more than a small piece of red fabric between him and the camera lens. After looking through the photos on the profile, he was in love! And after reviewing the photos for myself, I could see why. Jorge has photographed some of the hottest men in the industry, capturing some of the sexiest studs in some of the most provocative situations. Needless to say, I was so impressed; I immediately reached out to Jorge to get to know him and learn more about his photography. Since then, we have worked with Jorge on a number of issues, and every single time, Jorge has delivered some of the most stunning photographs I have ever seen. For our first issue of the year, we thought it would be great to share some of those images with you in our quarterly calendar issue. As you will see in the next few pages, these guys are absolutely smoking and the images: flawless! But before you begin salivating over the next few pages of gorgeous guys, check out what Jorge had to say in an interview with me earlier this week: Where are you from? TAKING YOUR EDUCATION SERIOUSLY
Happy New Year! Now that the holidays are over, we SFUVSO UP PVS UFO QBSU TFSJFT PO CBMBODJOH ZPVS MJGF 5IJT XFFL we focus on the importance of education. Education means different things to different people, but in general it refers to anything that makes us learn and grow. For some, it means attaining a college degree, for others, taking classes in an area of relevance to one’s career, and to even more people, education may be researching topics of interest on one’s own or learning a skill. .PTU (-#5 QFPQMF SFBMJ[F UIBU FEVDBUJPO JT JNQPSUBOU 5IF BWFSBHF FBSOJOHT PG B QFSTPO XJUI B IJHI TDIPPM EJQMPNB are significantly higher than for a person without one. Many adults return to school to learn more and increase their chances of success. According to the U.S. Department of Education, 90 million people engage in some type of adult education each year. Many schools and colleges are eager to serve this huge market and provide programming designed specifically for working adults. Since each person’s situation is unique, the steps you need to take to finish your education are determined by your specific goals and level of education completed. For those who may be interested in furthering their education, the following is a list of ideas to help begin this process:
