What TAN Magazine Has Become

TAN Magazine (Today’s Author News) is a publication that supports authors and the independent publishing industry. The intent is to share creative ideas and information that is supportive of the industry. This free publication is short so that it is easy to print. The online version has many links of books, videos, and other sites that support the written document. That’s why it’s called a magazine. The stories and reports go outside the magazine to what ever else can be found on the internet. That’s why the printed version is short so that it allows you to explore what is really out there in the publishing world. Enjoy reading and for those who are authors or authors to be, enjoy publishing.

From The Editor This Fall, EPN launches another season of author interviews on internet radio, magazine, and web television. Authors are encouraged to participate as this is a busy time for authors and publishers. The lovely advantage of our promotional programs is that it doesn’t cost the author or publisher a dime. Promoting the work of authors and supporting the independent publishing industry has been a focus of EPN since 1994. I’ve been interviewing authors since 1998.

Well a lot of people try reaching EPN.

The best way is to

Email: TodaysAuthor@yahoo.com and send text message to 413-342-1704 Call or send a text message to 413-342-1704 and let EPN know to look for the email

You can also reach EPN on Facebook by going to www.facebook.com/TodaysAuthor Yes, it’s an extra redundant step, but will prevent your email from being lost. Many of you have reached me by Facebook and I already have your information and I truly thank you and EPN will contact you. When you send the email, all that is needed is:    

TITLE AUTHOR NAME WEB SITE ANSWER: Why the reader would read your book? What’s in it for the reader? What does the reader get?

Because of the high volume of requests, all emails couldn’t be read in it’s entirety. Oh, yes, you probably want to know when the interview will happen. time. Not to worry, it will fit with your schedule.

A conversation with you will determine the best

All programs are sponsored by the book “An Easy Cooking Lesson For You”. Promotional snippets about the book will be found everywhere. All proceeds from the sale of the book are being donated to the Springfield Rescue Mission in Springfield, MA. I spoke about it on television last August (August 24, 2010). Below is the link. Please watch it so that you understand my passion to support those in need prior and during the holiday season. http://www.wwlp.com/dpp/news/local/hampden/Author-donating-book-money

Success Stories From Students of Publishing I’ve been teaching “Publish Your Book - Guaranteed” since 2004. Many of my students have become published. Arranging book release parties, sending authors to interviews, placing an author in position of success has been a passion of mine for many years. I love seeing success and truly proud to tell you about them.

“Dragonflies in July” By Danielle Koziol Within the hills of rural Vermont, exists a small country town that unexpectedly becomes the essence of summer adventure, combined with the excitement and uncertainty of youth. Join fifteen year old Avery Wells as she steps onto the land in rugged Vermont for the first time, and discovers the meaning of friendship, first love and simplicity of nature. Walk through rolling hills, hidden fields and wooded acres with Avery as she develops a lasting bond with six boys from the country, and learns the true meaning of life, change, and growing up. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Dragonflies-in-July/Danielle-Koziol/e/9780979460906/?itm=1&USRI=dragonflies+in +july

“The Woods” By Caytlyn Brooke Imagining walking through the woods, eager to get away from the pains and rejections of everyday life, only to stumble upon a secret so impossible you can't help but want to find out more. A secret that erases all of your premeditated beliefs about the world around you and plunges you into a fantasy that opens your mind. Blake is an 18 year old boy who is running from his mundane life when he finds Kaitaini, the wind nymph of the woods. She pulls him into her mythical world which sends him on a frightening journey that will test his courage, strength, and heart, and show him a side of him that he had long ago thought to be buried forever. http://www.amazon.com/Woods-Caytlyn-Brooke/dp/145289955X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1283720463&sr=1 -1

“Prince Gary” By Jeannie Miller-Poland April 28, 2008 My sweet, kind, loving, handsome, compassionate husband was diagnosed with cancer. When Gary was with us, I promised him that one day when I was strong enough, I would do my best to have his story published and shown to anyone who chose to read it. http://www.amazon.com/Prince-Gary-True-Cancer-Story/dp/1889436046/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=12837205 25&sr=1-1

E-Book Experience Request (let’s talk)

Over the past couple of years, we have seen the explosion of e-readers and battles between Kindle, Nook, I-Pad, Sony, Kobo, what ever. Eventually the playing field will be leveled with paper books and e-books and the technologies to create both. Any way that’s my way of thinking. Certainly I can be wrong. What will the playing field really look like for authors, publishers, and readers? What will the publishing world look like in the future? What will the reading world be like? How will it affect academia and college life? How? What? Uhmm? Tell me! In a future book to be released by EPN and Ewen Prime Company, we’ll explore the questions of the e-book effect based on your comments. I can talk the language of e-books as I own a Kindle and Nook and love them both. My love of books is also shared not only with the e-ink display, but the crisp fresh smelling paper book too. Don’t you love the smell of bookstores? Isn’t it nice to physically turn the page rather than swipe a virtual page on an I-Pad to simulate a page turn? Yeah, but I’m a techno-geek, I love e-reader’s too and admire how well the e-ink does so well to simulate the printed page. It’s way “kewl” Let’s discuss how publishing will look. I’d love to share your experience to include in the new book. What’s the title you ask? I’m asking that same question too. I don’t know yet, but I do know that e-books and the predicted action and results of the future of reading and publishing need to be reported. Yes, the future will attempt to be predicted on current experiences, but that is how we explore and grow. All proceeds for the book will not be going to EPN or Ewen Prime Company. All profits from the sale of the book will go to IPNE, the Independent Publishers of New England. Am I a member …Not yet. Do the know who I am? One or two people perhaps. They remember me founding the New England Publishers Association (NEPA) in 1998 that eventually spawned to IPNE. There was a passage of time between NEPA and IPNE. Today, IPNE has the same goals and desires NEPA had back in 1998. To reflect back on NEPA from 1998, there are some old files still hanging around http://www.sitesys.com/draft/nepa/index.html

It’s amazing that the “spirit” of NEPA continues …

To see what IPNE of today is doing, go to www.IPNE.org Does IPNE know about the donation of the “e-reading book”. No - haven‘t told them yet. What is more important is that IPNE receive the funding anonymously to do the good work they are doing today. When they do receive the funding, however big or small it may be, they will know what it is from and the passion it is from. I encourage you to all to participate in the book to show the vision of authors and the independent publishing industry of the future. Oh, yes, how do you participate? Send and email with a subject heading “EBOOK for IPNE”. We’ll chat by phone, email, “thought waves” to connect and share information. As I said, I own a Kindle and a Nook so I can “talk e-book”. Donation by EPN

All activity of EPN be it web TV, Online Radio, or magazine, will support the Springfield Rescue Mission in Springfield, Massachusetts. Supporting a recovery program for homeless and addicted with medical care, education, housing, and food helps make a better world for both the fortunate and unfortunate. I talked about it on television recently when I was invited to the 22 News WWLP Studios in Western Massachusetts. The following link is a LIVE interview

http://www.wwlp.com/dpp/news/local/hampden/Author-donating-book-money This Autumn, EPN will support authors and the independent publishing industry while supporting The Springfield Rescue Mission. As we hurtle forward toward the holiday season, I think about who really need the love and support. If you can, please support us by buying “An Easy Cooking Lesson For You”. For the price of a fast food meal, how can you go wrong. Help me make a better world.
