This mag was dreamed up in MMU’s Design LAB. We are now about to leave the LAB but the Manchester Municipal Design Corporation will continue to exist, seek work and, if possible, do more Things Happen. On the 14th October an exhibition will open at Hotspur House’s newly renovated 4th Floor, the first glimpse of much planned activity there. The MMDC’s work to date will be shown off, and an idea of what we are about beyond the pages of this publication will be on offer… snacks and drinks will be laid on to lure you in. All attempts to trace copyright holders of uncredited images have been made. Please get in touch if we missed anything and it’ll be rectified in a subsequent issue. We aren’t making any money off this. Each issue is paid for by a sponsor and all of it goes on printing the ‘zine and poster. The Manchester School of Art kindly paid for this issue, who’ll pay for the next one? Some images were borrowed from old issues of Oz magazine, again! All content is a mixture of fact and opinion of the individual contributors; MMDC subscribes to some of the views within, but they do represent the personal views of those responsible. Thanks to: Kerry / Sans façon, Susie Stubbs (again), Kate Feld and Ayhan Akilli for unwittingly giving Things Happen a name, failure to mention this in the debut was an oversight. We like: MARC the Printers, Good Grief, FUC51, Salford Zine Library. Again, we implore writers, photographer, illustrators and people who know of interesting things happening to please get in touch — dandidthis@live.com or C/o Laura Mansfield, 2nd Floor, Hotspur House, 2 Gloucester Street, Manchester, M1 5QR Manchester Municipal Design Corporation: www.mmdc.org.uk

These are your rights — Volume 2.

These are your rights — Volume 1. Given that one of the inspirations behind Things Happen is the international Underground Press Syndicate of the 60s and 70s and they challenged attitudes to copyright — often allowing free reproduction of information — an analysis of 21st Century approaches to copyright was in order. Luckily, Andrew Anderson has written just that, in two parts.
