Double-page analysis page 2

Lead image encapsulates the attitude and representational codes of the band or artist; it is normally heavily stylised to appeal to the VALs of the target audience. The image of Oli Sykes suggests a cutout, informal representation of the artist; it also compliments the font and style of ‘Bring Me The Horizon’.

By line this is the journalists name-Andrew Kelham. In some articles they include a picture by line which is a by line that features a picture of the journalist.

Standfirst in a larger and bolder font; the standfirst introduces the article to the reader. ‘Rock Sound discovers the foundations of the band..’ encourages the reader to continue reading the article.

Drop Cap this is the first letter of the first word of the main article. There are many drop caps in magazines as they attract the article, also making it more appealing. The drop cap is always a larger font than the font used in the article as its purpose is to stand out. A drop cap could be seen as a formal usage of publication.

Double-page spread analysis, page 2. The double page spread is mainly text-led as the other pages of the double page spread consist of images; there is only one photograph used as it relates to the genre of the article and attracts the audience. ‘Rock Sound’ uses the headline of ‘HEAVEN & HELL’ to reflect the main image of Oli Sykes featuring page 1 of the double-page spread, contrasting the idea of being ‘saint or sinner’. The headline is consistent with the House Style of the magazine, the readers can relate to the rock fashion and genre hence the language used in the headline. In relation to the standfirst the journalist introduces the article with strong descriptive language ‘as equally loved as they are hated’, this may suggest the band have attitude. I particularly like the image of the lead singer of Bring Me The Horizon as it reminds me of a cardboard cut-out image stuck onto the article.
