DAY 8 : Trichy – Chidambaram – Kancheepuram

In the morning, depart from Trichy and drive towards the celebrated pilgrim’s abode, ‘Chidambaram’. Upon arrival, refresh yourself and get ready for temple visits. Start your pilgrim trail with the ‘Nataraja Temple’ – member of the five major Lord Shiva temples, each representing one of the five natural elements (Sky, Earth, Water, Fire and Wind – of these, Nataraja Temple represents ‘Sky’). Unlike most of the Lord Shiva temples where the lord is represented in the form of a ‘Lingam’, here the lord is depicted in a beautiful ‘dancing posture’ (nata-raja). Lord Shiva is regarded as the ultimate God of the classical dance ‘Bharathanatyam’ and, thus Chidambaram is called as the Cosmic Dancer’s Place! Another striking feature of this temple is the ‘Nrithya Sabha’ (hall of dance). After relishing the grandeur of Nataraja temple, that rivals any major shrine, proceed northwards where the ‘Thillai Kali Amman temple’ is located. Dedicated to the fiery Goddess Kali, this is one more temple with striking elegance. Later on depart Chidambaram to Kancheepuram, without the sight of which your Dravidian tour will be incomplete.
