AUSSIE TO REPLACE XAUS IN SBK Australian former World Supersport Champion, Karl Muggeridge will replace Ruben Xaus in the injury struck Castrol Honda team this weekend’s World Superbike encounter at Silverstone. Muggeridge will join Alex Lowes, who is himself standing in for the Castrol Honda team’s other injured rider Jonathan Rea. Spaniard Xaus sustained leg and back injuries in a first lap crash in race one at Brno in the Czech Republic just over two weeks ago. Although initial scans did not reveal any major injury, continual pain in his back prompted Xaus to seek further medical advice last week, which revealed a fracture to vertebra L3. He expects to be fit for round 10 of the series at Nurburgring in Germany in early September. Muggeridge won the World Supersport championship in 2004 with the Castrol-supported Ten Kate Honda team and he contested the World Superbike championship with the squad in 2005 and 2006. More recently, the 36-year-old from Tweeds Head on Australia’s Gold Coast has been racing a Honda CBR1000RR in the IDM German Superbike championship. He is currently lying second in the series in which he became champion on his debut last season.

were 1-1 in finals with Hagan winning Dallas in 2010 and Force winning in their last head-to-head meeting in Las Vegas2 last year.
Force took the win when Matt Hagan redlit in the final round – but it was a tough day for the legendary racer. He had to come up against current Championship leader and team-mate Mike Neff in round number two.
“I went up against that kid Hagan and I really felt good. I said in an interview I went up to Hagan right before the final. He said good luck and I said you and I were the champs last year. You and I fought it out to the wire when nobody else could and now we are in the final. I told him we are back where we belong. He had a big old grin on his face. He said you are right. We want to be there. We miss it. We miss that winners circle.”
Once depositing Neff, he had a great passage into his first final round of season 2011. “I said to Robert (Hight), ‘I don’t know what is wrong. My luck is bad. It could be that my race car is off and the weight is different.’ He said, ‘No it is you.’ Robert told me to get back in the game. “I went back to Guido (Dean Antonelli) and Ron and told them they would have everything from me this weekend. It is team work and yeah we did some damage last night but we came back with those Fords.”
“I thought I was dead late. I thought, ‘Oh the whipping is coming.’ You have to be really on your game against Hagan. Sometimes luck is part of it. He was outrunning me. I chased him all the way to the lights. I was hoping he would nose over. I did not know that he red lit. That is how close we were right on that tree. He is a champion. I really like the kid. He is the future.”
“Before the semi-final race Mike Neff looked at me and said get out there and fight like you want this. He told me to kick his butt if I could. He said I was better than I had been showing.”
The crew chief tandem of Dean Antonelli and Ron Douglas is the third crew chief combination Force has won with in his legendary career. This was JFR’s sixth win in a row this season and it marked the 14th time in a row a Ford Mustang was represented in the final round of an NHRA race.
Force beat Tony Pedregon in the first round then out ran points leader Mike Neff in the second round. In the semi-finals Force had to outrun one of the surprises of the season in Jeff Arend before squaring off with Matt Hagan. Force held a 6-3 record going into the final and the drivers
Robert Hight had a chance to set up a rematch of last year’s Denver final but he was upended by Hagan in the semi-finals. Hight did move up in the Full Throttle point standings securing the No. 2 spot. He now has a slim five point lead over Jack Beckman.

WALLABIES WIN TRI SERIES OPENER The Wallabies have launched into the Castrol EDGE Tri Nations with an impressive 39-20 win over the Springboks at ANZ Stadium last Saturday. The Wallabies played host to the South Africans along with a crowd of 52,788 in Sydney, but their hospitality ended there, dominating the game from the start. The Springboks failed to cross the line in the first half, only able to put two penalty goals on the board to the Wallabies two tries by Ben Alexander and Digby Ioane. The Wallabies continued to dominate in the second half, scoring in the first three minutes of the half with a Quade Cooper offload to James O’Connor and subsequent conversion. The Australian assault continued with another try just five minutes later by
Stephen Moore and a penalty goal shortly after. The Springboks responded in the 59th minute with their first try of the game, the Wallabies were able to hold them off until the South Africans went over again with
only four minutes remaining in the game. At the final siren the Wallabies were up by 19 points and had retained the Mandela Plate; the significant win sets up the teams’ moral for the rest of the Castrol EDGE Tri Nations series.

DRAMA FOR CASTROL KAWASAKI TEAM The Castrol EDGE backed Monster Energy Kawasaki team is looking to the upcoming final round of the Rockstar Energy MX Nationals after a tough day on Sunday in Moree. The penultimate round run in New South Wales started off well for the team; with team riders Dean Ferris and Phil Nicoletti taking pole in their respective qualifiers. Pro Open Series leader, Dean Ferris was forced to relinquish the leaders Red Plate he’s held since round four after his third moto crash sent him to hospital and he was unable to continue to compete. His day started well, recording two third placed finishes. “I knew if I got up and made the last race that I still had a chance to get points and save the round but the pain was so great and I had to go to hospital. “My hand is pretty sore and I’ll see a specialist tomorrow to sort it out. I’m focused on Coolum this weekend and will do everything I need to win this Championship,” said Ferris. His Pro Open teammate Billy Mackenzie was looking good for a podium finish with a third place in qualifying and fourth in race one until a crash in the second race dashed his chances, he recovered
enough in the final two races to secure 6th place overall. “My main problem today was my starts and crashes. We also took a gamble with a new bike set-up and it didn’t pay off. I’ll revert back to my previous suspension set-up and come out strong at Coolum,” said Mackenzie Pro Lites class runner Phil Nicoletti took a second place finish in moto one, before a crash in race two landed him a DNF, a third and fourth place in the following races weren’t enough to take him further than 7th for the day. Ferris and Mackenzie go into the final round of the MX Nationals in third and fourth respectively, and Nicoletti is also in fourth place in the Pro Lites; all three are well in contention for the championship title.

A Supercar Showdown hopeful who lives and breathes racing day in day out, Reid is looking for her break into V8 Supercars; through the Castrol EDGE-backed Kelly Racing competition. An avid karter since age eight, Reid wasted no time claiming her first state championship only a year later; and has been on the rise ever since. She has scored podium finishes racing in Formula Ford along with a ride in the Bathurst 12 hour for Holden Motorsport in addition to racing in Formula 3, Improved Production and the MINI Challenge. Her passion for racing was behind her decision to study for a Mechatronic Engineering degree and subsequently her current occupation as one of the youngest fully qualified driver trainers. A strong female representative of the sport, she has been featured in Marie Claire Magazine and was a judge for ‘Wheels Magazines’ ‘Car of the Year’ in 2009 and 2010.
