DRIVE A VEHICLE EFFICENTLY ACCORDING TO CATEGORY AND WEIGHT: ADVANCED TRAINING IN WEGHT DISTRIBUTION BASED ON SAFETY REGULATIONS: KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICAL COMPENTENCY REQUIREMENTS ALL LICENCES AIMS 1. Maintain a suitable position on the road, 2. Negotiate bends, 3. Negotiate all types of junctions, including roundabouts and all types of crossings, 4. Drive on motorways and dual carriageways, 5. Comply with signals, signs and road markings. OBJECTIVES a) The driver must demonstrate the ability to select and load the vehicle with due regard for safety rules and proper vehicle use: b) The driver must know and demonstrate effective use of the forces affecting vehicles in motion, c) The driver must use of gearbox ratios according to vehicle load and road profile to make safe and efficient progress, d) The driver must calculate the payload of the vehicle or assembly the load in accordance with the carrying capability of the vehicle, e) The driver must able to calculate of total volume and weight of the load when required to do so, f) The driver must be able to distribute the load in accordance with vehicle specification and order of delivery where applicable, g) The driver must know and understand the consequences of overloading the axle, h) The driver must be aware of the vehicle stability and centre of gravity, and control it in accordance with road and environmental conditions, i) The driver must know the types and weights of packaging and pallets; j) The driver must know the main categories of goods needing securing, k) The driver must know and be able to demonstrate effective use of clamping and securing techniques where applicable, l) The driver must use securing straps where applicable, m) The driver must know and demonstrate checking of securing devices where applicable, n) The driver must demonstrate safe use of handling equipment where applicable, o) The driver must demonstrate safe placing and removal of tarpaulins where applicable.
