Definitely the best continuing education class I’ve taken. Nels was knowledgeable and confident in his presentation; it was clear he put a lot of thought into his prep for the course. The content was well-organized and accessible. He also gave really constructive, thorough feedback on our assignments, and that alone was worth the price of the class.

VISUAL ARTS

Abstract Watercolors

Combine the expressive, personal, object-free vision of abstraction with the smaller, particular, intimate beauty of watercolors. This class will focus on the elements of design, color and harmony, line and shape while creating an exciting and compelling painting that expresses a personal inner vision. Often alluding to nature or a state of mind, Abstract Watercolors will carry the painter to the beauty of feelings, spirit and imagination. Discover a new creative medium when you combine the classic, rich surfaces of oil painting with the translucent depth and varied textures of cold wax. Utilizing a soft paste made with beeswax, this process is perfect for exploring the simple structures of abstraction, personal point of view and the beauty of color. See www.learnatnorth.org for supply list. 20277 4/8/2022 - 6/10/2022 10:00AM - 1:00PM 10 ses F Paquette CC Bldg; Room 1254B $275 Abstract Acrylics and Collage

This course features a combination of two very beautiful and expressive media in fine art: abstract painting, with acrylics in this case, and collage (coming from the French word for glue). These two complementary processes produce dynamic results together—the abstract painting is emotional and free, celebrating pure design and the beauty of color, shape and line. And the collage adds edge and structure and maybe contrast through the cutting and pasting aspect. The acrylic paint is water-soluble and versatile, and sticks the whole thing together, easily creating various textures on the surface of the work at the same time. The process for the classes includes generating concepts for each project, group discussions, critiques and sharing information, demonstrations, and about four projects, each taking two to three class sessions to complete. No homework unless you want to do it. See www.learnatnorth.org for supply list. 24833 4/9/2022 - 6/11/2022 10:00AM - 1:00PM 10 ses Sa Paquette CC Bldg; Room 1254B $275

LISA MYERS BULMASH Lisa is a collage and book artist who works primarily in acrylics, paper and found objects. Informally trained, Lisa began her career making handmade cards. After her father’s death in 2006, she felt compelled to take more personal risks in her creative life. Questions of identity, trust and the imperfect memory now drive most of her work. Lisa aims to nudge the viewer into recognizing our shared stories, especially those narratives that are usually experienced in isolation. Her collage work resides in three municipal art collections: Seattle, Shoreline and the Seattle Public Library’s Special Collections. She has also been awarded grants from the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation and other arts benefactors. Her work and commentary have been highlighted in five books as well. Lisa exhibits her work in group and solo shows throughout the Seattle metro area.
