MAJOR PUBLIC PYRAMIDAL BUILDING WITH SUNKEN CIRCULAR

Plaza C1

Located on the northern side of the settlement. It is a quadrangular building with stepped platforms. On the southern side of the building, there is a sunken circular plaza inserted in a quadrangular platform leading to the top ceremonial halls through a central staircase. The top had three rooms, one central, larger, and two lateral ones. The enclosures have benches, niches and a central fire pit. Another elevated platform was built behind these halls on which a central area and a rear area were built in the same axis, surrounded by smaller enclosures, altars and underground galleries.

Due to the complexity and the volume, we infer that it was one of the most important public buildings of the settlement.

The research has identified evidences of an early construction period, still little known, and a late construction period with several phases of architectural remodelling.

The walls were built with cut stones, arranged in irregular rows and joined with mortar of gray and yellow clay, and were plastered and painted. For the deposits they used stone mixed with gravel and stones contained in shicra bags. In a late remodelling large stones were placed in the walls of the ceremonial hall facade.
