was born at the Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital on Hackney Road, which ironically is currently being regenerated into new apartments. Spending the first years of my life during the 80s around Well Street Common, Hackney has, and always will have, a very special place in my heart. For me it was brilliant; I had family just next door, a dear old lady who lived upstairs and always spoiled my sister and I with soft jelly sweets whenever we passed by, friends just a short tricycle ride away and our nursery on the corner. Even at a young age the feeling of community spirit was palpable and to this day I believe this is what makes Hackney a great place to be. Hackney has changed so much over the last thirty years, in many great ways, but for me its community spirit is one of the wonderful things that has remained the same. Before I was drawn to the

property industry, my career was within hospitality. Over the years I managed a number of cool and funky cocktail bars, boutique hotels and restaurants in and around Soho and the City. I loved the industry; some of the experiences were amazing and it has had a big impact on my life. However, the long, unsociable hours slowly became more of a problem and after deliberating for a few years on whether to join the day walkers, and with a little help from my beautiful now wife, I decided a career in property would be for me. I began in Richmond, where I chose the faster pace of the lettings sector over sales. The beginning of my career in

lettings was with a corporate agent, as I knew this would be the best way to gain the knowledge and experience needed for a strong career. I gained excellent training and soon became a member of ARLA. After a few years of progressing up the career ladder, it became obvious to me that something was missing and I knew I wanted more from the agency I worked for. I considered a move to a larger company, at which point I realised maybe size doesn’t matter and what I really wanted was to work within a company that had community at the very heart of it. I was extremely fortunate to find BlakeStanley. I’ve discovered them to be a rarity in the industry - an established agent that also has that friendly, family feel I was looking for. Not only that, I’m back in my old haunt, being reminded of my childhood at every corner. It feels good to be back! u
