Objective

Students will learn that to not be a pushover in their relationship with God, they must follow the path of wisdom with the decisions they make.

Warm Up

Hold a pair of worn, beaten up shoes up in front of the group. Explain that shoes are important in our lives and that each of us likely owns several pairs. Talk about how shoes are put on each morning and go with you wherever you go during the day. Describe how these shoes really tell a story. Ask, “How many states do you think these shoes have been to?” “How many different homes or shopping centers or school have they been in?” “How many different events, parties or ceremonies have they attended?” “How much good or how much bad has this shoe been a part of?”

Ask, “How much input will your shoes have on where you go each day?” Say, “Shoes don’t make decisions for you; they just go with you wherever you go. The problem is that many people will let other people make decisions for them. They let other people decide where they will be headed. They become a pushover.”

The Video

Hand out the Student Guides. Play the “Pushover” video by Manafest. Have the students jot down images or lyrics that really made the message of the song clear.

According to the Bible, the decisions made each day will put someone on either the wise path or the foolish path. Wise living leaves its mark because it stands out from the crowd. This study will highlight the path of the wise and what that looks like. Have the students form four different groups. Have each person in the group read the passage. Then have the groups use the Student Guide to answer the questions. When each group is done, they should present their answers to the other groups.

• In your own words, what is the key to wisdom here? • How much power does peer influence have on your age group? • What are some ways you have dealt with peer pressure? Proverbs 1:32-33 • What is this saying about wise living? • What are the natural consequences of not doing things God’s way?

There are so many choices we make each day. People love to have fun but don’t like the consequences that sometimes come with it. Each person can follow wisdom and avoid some of the pitfalls of just going with the crowd. That means actually standing up for what is right and avoiding what is popular in favor of what is wise.

Wrap Up

Show the video again and have students respond on the Student Guide. Then pray for the group that God would help each one live in a godly way, stay on the path of wisdom, and do their part to make wise choices.
