Dear Friends, Thank you for supporting our student athletes! The Woodlands Christian Academy has a strong history of athletic success, and our competitive sports programs are popular with our students.

Our school’s mission is to equip well-rounded Warriors for Christ - spiritually, academically, physically, and socially to fulfill God’s unique purpose for each of their lives. We offer a challenging Christian college-preparatory education, and athletics are an integral part of our students’ overall school experience.

Furthermore, faculty and coaches encourage students daily through strong mentoring relationships. As a result, our students perform extremely well on standardized tests, and graduates receive impressive college acceptances from a wide range of top universities as well as merit-based college scholarships in excess of $104,000 per student for the latest graduating class. Many of our graduates continue to pursue athletics in college. Most importantly, however, our students are challenged to build their lives on the foundation of Jesus Christ.

With so much to be thankful for, I am most grateful for my dedicated staff and coaches. The long, enduring hours training and mentoring our young athletes, working through numerous schedules, and maintaining a positive attitude have been well worth the work. They possess selfless, servant hearts which have lead our varsity Warriors to 3 TAPPS State Championships (boys and girls cross county, boys basketball), 6 State Finalists (boys and girls cross country, boys basketball, volleyball, tennis, swim and girls golf), 3 Regional Championships (boys basketball, volleyball, girls track & field) 4 District Championships (boys basketball, volleyball, girls track & field, softball), 2 Final Fours (boys basketball, volleyball), 1 State Runner-Up (volleyball), 9 middle school HAPS Championships (girls cross country, football, boys basketball divisions 1 & 2, girls basketball - division 1, boys soccer, boys golf, softball, boys track & field), and 2 HAPS District Runner-Ups (boys cross country, girls track & field). Our varsity softball and baseball teams are still playing, along with our girls track and field, moving on to state.

It has truly been a remarkable year for Warrior athletics. Woodlands Christian values the important role that athletics play in contributing to a college preparatory education and it is an intricate part of our mission. I look forward to our graduating athletes using their developed skills in time management, problem solving, delegation, motivation, and team building in their new roles as college students.

Hello Warriors!

Warrior Boosters would like to end the year saying thank you to all of the volunteers who put in an extra effort making 2017-2018 very successful. We would not be able to it all with out your help!

My years on the committee, and as chair, has come to an end. As my boys begin to graduate high school, I too start a new season in my life. It has been a great pleasure serving beside you, watching our children grow in Christ, and making an impact to the Woodlands Christian athletic programs.

Athletics play an important role in our children’s education. Through team athletics, students learn to face challenges, overcome their limitations and develop personal integrity through sportsmanship, all while experiencing the rewards and lessons that come from teamwork. Warrior Boosters promotes and encourages all Warrior athletic programs by offering volunteer and financial support. Please consider becoming a booster member next year.

arrior Varsity Head Coaches

R

andy Hollas assumed the role of Head Varsity Football Coach for The Woodlands Christian Academy in 2017 after serving as the Athletic Director for the previous eight years. Coach Hollas grew up in

Katy, TX, and played baseball and football at Katy High School. He was a unanimous first team all-district quarterback and pitcher for the Tigers. While earning his B.S. in Physics at McMurry University, he was an academic all-conference pitcher. His career in education began at HISD’s Sharpstown Middle and High School where Coach Hollas took over the varsity baseball program at the high school in his second year as a science teacher. During his second season as head coach, he guided the Apollos to the playoffs after finishing 4 – 14 the prior year. After three years at Sharpstown, Coach Hollas was hired by Mike Johnston, former Katy HS head coach, as the quarterback coach and offensive coordinator at Houston Christian High School. During his three years there, the Mustangs made the playoffs twice and beat rival Second Baptist for the first time in more than a decade. Coach Hollas then moved to St. Joseph Catholic School in Bryan, TX., as the head football coach for two years. His team made the playoffs both years and won the first ever 11-man football playoff game against Cypress Christian School in 2008. During his time as Athletic Director at The Woodlands Christian Academy, the athletic programs have grown in the local private school community as well as the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS). All boys and girls team sports made the TAPPS playoffs for the past two seasons. This is a first in our school history.

J

onathan McNeese is entering his first season as varsity golf coach at TWCA. Before joining Warriors, Jonathan served at Faith Christian Academy in Goldsboro, North Carolina, where he coached varsity

soccer and middle school basketball. Prior to that, he was athletic director at New Bern Christian Academy in New Bern, North Carolina where he also coached middle school basketball and soccer. God led Jonathan and his family to Texas in the spring of 2015.

In 2017, he left a position in banking to join Woodlands Christian as middle school Bible teacher and coach. Coach McNeese seeks to connect with his players in a way that not only teaches lessons about the game of golf but also prepares them to lead their generation.

r. Jeff Yu is in his first year as head Varsity tennis coach for The Woodlands Christian Academy.

He began his recreational tennis career in 2006 and has since continued to learn about the game

of tennis from many different tennis professionals. He often trains and plays tennis with his two sons, both of whom were previous four-year varsity tennis players and eventual captains of The Woodlands College Park High School tennis team. Coach Jeff has also organized many tennis matches and minitournaments for tennis teams in our area.

arrior Varsity Head Coaches

T

om Earle has coached Track & Field and Cross Country programs at Woodlands Christian since 2009.

During his tenure the Lady Warrior cross country team has won the TAPPS state championship three

times (2014, 2016, 2017), and the Warrior boys’ cross country team earned their first state championship in 2017. In track & field, the Lady Warriors have been district champions for six consecutive years (20122017). The Warrior boys’ track & field team claimed the TAPPS state title in 2015.

Coach Earle was a walk-on athlete to one of the country’s top track & field programs at the University of Houston. This team included Olympic medalists Carl Lewis, Kirk Baptiste, Leroy Burrell along with USA team coach, Tom Tellez. Coach Earle relates to athletes' needs by pursuing technical and current training in these areas: USA Track & Field Level 1 certification, U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association certification, National Federation of High School Coaches – Track & Field specialization, USA Track & Field – Endurance Training certification.

By combining his own training knowledge with the coaching certifications he is able to tailor the training with progressive endurance, strength and speed elements. "Throughout the season, my focus is on encouragement and small-success achievement. As practical, I will spend focused time on technique, analysis and motivation to help each athlete go beyond what they thought was possible. My philosophy is to provide the opportunity for each athlete to achieve their own personal goals.”

ichard Perez is now in his third year at head varsity softball coach at Woodlands Christian.

Coach Perez has been extensively associated with softball in the Woodlands area for quite some

time. Since 1997, he has coached in and served on the South Montgomery County Softball League (SMCSL) Executive Board. During this time, he coached league, all-star, and tournament teams. His SMCSL squads and select squads have placed first in district and state tournaments as well as the top ten at nationals.

In addition to his coaching, Coach Perez’s efforts have had a big impact in softball development in Texas. He was a past director of the Ronald McDonald Softball Tournament, which is one of the largest showcase events for girls wanting to play collegiate softball. Many of his former players have moved on to successful collegiate opportunities including Dartmouth, Auburn University, Stephen F. Austin State University, and University of Houston Victoria.

Lizzy, It has been such a joy to watch you play softball for TWCA the past 7 years. From a 6th grader on the inaugural middle school team to now, a senior on varsity and district champion, my how you've grown!
