50+ Strength and Stretch

Improve your strength and flexibility in this class designed for older adults. This program begins with a warm-up, then focuses on using tubing and free weights to tone and strengthen your muscles. Gentle stretching completes the workout.

Body Sculpt*

This class is focused on helping you get & stay strong. We will be utilizing free weights, your body weight, stability balls, body bars, tubing and more to challenge all your muscles – especially your core! Have fun getting fit!

Butt & Abs*

A full hour focused on strengthening the core muscles and redefining the lower body. For all levels of fitness.

Essentrics: Aging Backwards

Discover how to move with pleasure and harmony, how relaxing and stretching muscles strengthens them and makes your joints happy. Essentrics is a full body workout without impact or weights. It is a slow and gentle full body stretch and strengthen workout that focuses on increasing mobility, flexibility and relieving chronic aches, pains and joint stiffness.

Fitness is Golden

A low impact class to improve cardiovascular flow, range of motion, balance, and strength to increase muscle condition and build confidence to improve mobility and strength to daily movements. Chairs are available to assist with balance. This class is ideal for those new to exercise, all levels and ages.

NEW! Minds in Motion

Minds in Motion® is a fitness and social program for people living with any form of early stage dementia with a friend, family member or care partner. This program is offered in partnership with the Alzheimer Society of B.C. Gentle exercises are followed by social activities designed to be enjoyed in pairs. Care partners must attend.

Jumping Fitness

Jumping is a new low impact cardio fitness movement performed on patented trampolines to upbeat music. It is for anyone wanting a fun HIIT workout!

New! PWP Fit

This Parkinson's specific exercise class targets common symptoms of the disease, including rigidity, bradykinesia, and postural instability. The class focuses on large amplitude, high effort, and attention to action in multiple postures. Cognitive challenges and functional movements are included during exercise to help improve participants’ ability to complete daily tasks and live the life they love. An assessment at Parkinson Wellness Projects (PWP) is required to participate in this class. Contact PWP at 250-360-6800 or info@ parkinsonwellness.ca for more information or to register.

Parent and Tot Fitness*

This class allows you to get your fitness class in without the worry of finding childcare. Bring you baby to the class in a stroller, or car seat. Classes are held in the fitness studio and will include an indoor cycling workout and finish with stretching.

Using Ripstix®, lightly weighted drumsticks, POUND® transforms drumming into an incredibly effective way of working out. You become the music in this exhilarating full-body workout that combines cardio, conditioning, and strength training with yoga and pilates-inspired movements. POUND® provides the perfect atmosphere for letting loose, getting energized, toning up and rockin’ out! The workout is easily modifiable and appeals to men and women of all ages and abilities.

Stretch & Balance

A fun class with stretching, strengthening and core stability using your own body weight to improve flexibility, balance and strength. All levels welcome. Please bring your own mat to class.

Time

Together in Movement and Exercise is an exercise class for individuals with balance and mobility challenges from conditions such as Stroke, Acquired Brain Injury or Multiple Sclerosis. This specialized circuit style fitness class is offered in partnership with Island Health. Participants must be able to independently walk 10 metres with or without a walking aid without the assistance of someone else.

TRX Combo

The TRX suspension trainer is a total-body training system that uses leveraged body weight to build power, strength, balance, and flexibility for people of all ages and fitness levels. This class will combine the TRX suspension trainer with a circuit of full body exercises to keep the heart rate up for a fun, core focused workout.

Zumba*

Zumba Fitness fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away. Our goal is simple: We want you to want to work out, to love working out, and to get hooked. *Drop in option available.

Zumba Gold

Designed for active older adults and people starting their fitness journey, ZUMBA Gold® combines zesty Latin and international rhythms with easy moves to create an energizing and fun fitness experience that is less intense than regular ZUMBA. Improves balance, flexibility and cardiovascular health. Drop in option available.

Aqua Zumba*

A perfect class for those looking to make a splash by adding a lowimpact, high-energy aquatic exercise to their fitness routine. Aqua Zumba® blends the Zumba® philosophy with water resistance, for one pool party you shouldn’t miss! Water creates natural resistance, which means every step is more challenging and helps tone your muscles with less impact on your joints. All levels welcome.

Generation Health Program

A FREE 9-week program to inspire healthier BC families. Learn how families with children ages 8-12 can make small changes to feel better inside and out and have fun doing it! Youth Fitness

Regional Youth Weight Room Orientation

This orientation will provide 13–15-year old’s with an introduction on how to safely use a recreation centre weight room. Content will include weight room procedures, etiquette; cardio and weight training guidelines and instruction on how to use and strength training equipment.

Upon completion of this orientation, participants will receive a sticker which permits them to access weight rooms at the following facilities: Esquimalt Recreation Centre, City of Victoria Recreation Centre, Saanich Recreation Centres, and West Shore Recreation, Oak Bay Recreation Centre, Panorama Recreation Centre and SEAPARC.

NEW! Youth Fitness Foundations

This program is designed for youth looking to live an active and healthy life by developing a fitness foundation with a focus on fun. This program will build on physical literacy skills, strength & cardio conditioning, speed and agility through exercises, games and activities. All levels welcome.

RUNNING & WALKING

JDF Trail Walkers

Choose your own "speed" of walking from one of our 3 walking groups. From slow to moderate or fast, you'll find a group right for you. All walkers meet together, to share in the camaraderie that exists in this group and walk the scenic trails nearby. Tuesday & Thursday 9-10:30am. Indoor (Concourse) Walking

Come walk The Q Centre Arena Concourse! Concourse walking is suitable for individuals who would benefit from the positive effects of low impact exercise. JDF Running Club

This West Shore Community Club is for runners looking to run with other people. Members include those who enjoy running for fitness and fun and those who participate in road races, marathons, duathlons and triathlons. For more information, please contact Val Chura at vchura@shaw.ca.

Aqua Yoga

Aqua Yoga is a low-impact aquatic exercise, performing yoga poses in water. Aqua Yoga poses help you develop strength, static balance and increases range of motion with little to no impact on joints, especially knees, hips, and ankles. No yoga experience is necessary.

Core Yoga

This class will activate deep and superficial muscles of the abdomen through a focus on core exercises. It will also have elements of a traditional flow practice but will articulate more strength, stability and pelvic support in all flow postures.

NEW! Chair Yoga: Mobility and Mindfulness

This hour-long chair yoga class is created to be accessible to all. We will work on increasing our mobility while focusing on using our breath to calm our mind. Individuals should expect to leave this class feeling relaxed, both in their body and mind, and with some easy stretching poses and breathing exercises that can be done anytime, anywhere! All are welcome.

Easy Yoga

Easy yoga is a weekly timeout that will energize your body and calm your mind. Nothing fancy, no difficult exercises, just plain easy yoga that anyone can do and benefit from.

Gentle Yoga

This is a nurturing class to release tension and stress. Restorative yoga poses use the breath to create a free flow of energy in the body. Gain body awareness and a sense of deep relaxation, allowing the body to heal.

Hatha Flow Yoga

Traditional Hatha postures are sequenced to encourage fluid movement between postures. This fluid movement, partnered with breath awareness, helps create a strong connection between mind, body and spirit. This class is suitable for all-levels and blends stretching, strengthening, balancing, and relaxation.

Pilates

Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with the emphasis on the “power house” core strength. Fusion incorporates exercises from different workout styles, including Yoga, strength training, and Barre. In this class the emphasis is core, posture, toning, balance, flexibility, stretching and connecting mind and body.

NEW! Relaxing Yoga

Relax and restore your mind and body in this class. This is a nurturing class to release tension and stress. Restorative yoga poses use the breath to create a free flow of energy in the body. Gain body awareness and a sense of deep relaxation, allowing the body to heal.

NEW! Vinyasa Flow Yoga

Vinyasa Flow Yoga will flow seamlessly from one pose to the next to activate foundational muscles using only your body weight, then relax into restorative postures. This class is just right for all levels of experience and accommodations are available if needed. All levels welcome.

Yogilates

This class is a fusion blend of yoga and Pilates that will challenge strength, balance, stamina and flexibility. It combines the yogic focus of mind and body awareness with Pilates techniques to improve posture and deep core strength to create a strong, stable foundation for movement. Finish with Savasana to relax the mind and body. All fitness levels are welcome, and the class is beginner friendly!

EXERCISE REHABILITATION:

Do you need specialized exercises to assist your recovery or have a medical condition that your exercises need to address or be tailored around? Our team of Kinesiologists can help develop an exercise plan specifically for you, and demonstrate you how to perform your exercises safely and effectively. Written medical clearance may be required before participation. Exercise Rehabilitation requires an assessment by one of our qualified Kinesiologists, then a follow up appointment to show you your exercise program.

Exercise Rehab Classes

TIME

Together in Movement and Exercise is an exercise class for individuals with balance and mobility challenges from conditions such as Stroke, Acquired Brain Injury or Multiple Sclerosis. This specialized circuit style fitness class is offered in partnership with Island Health. Participants must be able to independently walk 10 metres with or without a walking aid without the assistance of someone else.

Aqua Therapy

This water therapy class is for people graduating from one-onone rehabilitation sessions or those who require the support and guidance of the Exercise Rehabilitation Specialist. One-hour pool exercise sessions will include individual attention and program adaptation to give the best chance for improvements in strength, fitness, and function. This class is best suited for individuals with joint replacements and chronic pain. Pre-requisite: Rehabilitation Assessment, session, and Medical Clearance.

Take Heart & Breathe Well Program

This program is a supervised exercise program for people who have had a cardiac event/surgery, chronic respiratory illness, and/or other chronic conditions. It includes an individual assessment, exercise plan, and ongoing monitoring and assistance.

NIA Dance

Dance has been proven to help cognitive function, as well as, condition the bodies heart, lungs, bones and muscles while just having fun moving to music. Nia is choregraphed and Free dance combined with Martial Arts and Healing. Nia improves circulation and helps maintain a healthy weight. Nia is great for any age, fitness level, or body type. Please bring a yoga mat.
