While holistic techniques have been in practice for thousands of years, they are becoming increasingly popular as more people integrate these practices into their daily lives. When used medicinally, the term holistic refers to the overall well-being of an individual. While Western medicine only targets illness and disease of the body, holistic medicine goes a step further than healing just physical ailments.

“[Holistic practices] seeks the answers to these two questions: what does this person need in order to heal? Or what does this person need to remove from their lives in order to heal?” said Dr. Nisha Callen, a homeopathic doctor. “The journey of the person to illness and the testing, which is very different from conventional doctoral testing, creates that window of opportunity to heal.”

Dr. Callen said that abundance prevents an individual from living a full holistic life, which can make living a fully holistic life difficult.

“Most of the diseases we have today are diseases of abundance,” she said. “Abundance of food, abundance of stress and abundance of rest (lack of movement). Then, added on top of this is an abundance of infection, pollution and mold.”

Living holistically requires cutting out these abundances or finding better alternatives. Some common practices of holistic treatments include herbal medicine in the form of teas or supplements, or aromatherapy, which uses essential oils that help with psychological well-being. Another well known holistic practice is meditation, which can involve breathing exercises, interpersonal writing, acupuncture and wellness coaching.

In recent years, one natural treatment that has gained popularity is cannabidiol or CBD. CBD is the second active ingredient in cannabis, but it does not cause the high associated with cannabis. CBD oils are commonly used to treat insomnia, anxiety, inflammation and in some cases, tobacco or heroin addiction. The oils can range in price from $10 to $400 depending on volume, strength and type of the product.

If you are looking to take holistic practices one step further, you can incorporate CBD into your morning routine by adding hemp to your tea. There is plenty of evidence that CBD from hemp can provide mental alertness and taste good when added to tea. These simple steps will help you grow into a better you.

Many people can find healing by practicing holistic medicine and incorporating CBD products into their lives. Beginning the process of living holistically can look daunting, but the first step is to view your body as a temple. You can start to do this by feeding yourself with nourishing foods, and you will begin your holistic journey.
