Cox, A. 3., '17 was to make a presentation ,f the Memorial of the Class of 1917 .ut was unable to be present. Donald . McCarthy, A. B., '29, responded to he toast "To Our Alma Mater." A ribute was given in the toast "To )ur Monsignori," by John T. Smith, \ . B., '29, to the three new MonsigLori of the a lu mni., the Rt. Rev. Msgr. ames Burns, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. 1. Maguire, and the Rt. Rev. Msgr. i' F. Connor. Monsignori Maguire esponded to Mr. Smith's tribute. The Voice of '30" was heard in the oerson of H. Paul Mills, the President ,f the Class of 1930. orations: John L. McMahon, A. B. '20, spoke on The Winning of Catholic Emancipation; Donald T. La enhardt, A. B. '29, delivered his oration on The Results of Catholic Emancipation. The Validictory was given by the President of the class, J. Allen Nolan, A. B. '29. During the exercises this afternoon, Mr. Nolan, president of this year's class, invested the president of next year's class, Mr. Mills, with the academic cap and gown. The Very Rev. W. J. Bergin, c. s. v., of the University of Illinois, delivered the Commencement Address, an eloquent and thoughtfu l discourse on Education. The Rev. E. V. Cardina l, Dean, read the narnes of graduates, the titles of their thesis and the names of the w inners of scholastic honors. His Lordship, Bishop Shiel, awarded the diplomas and presented the medals; Father Maguire conferred the bachelor degrees. Bishop Shiel closed the exercise with a few very brief remarks to the graduates.
