WATSON ELECTED TO PRESIDENCY OF COLLEGE CLUB

COMPLETE PROGRAM FOR RECEPTION OF RT. REV. B.J. SHEIL

Program of Events, June 4th and 5th Monday, June 4th

Brown Elected Vice-President; Long a nd Clothier, Officers Mr. Jarlath (Ja y ) Watson, of Odell, Illinois, was elected Pres ident of the College Club by a very decided majority on Thursday, May 17. In choosing Mr. Wats on to act as their chief executive for t he year 19281929, the members of the Club picked a man who is not only quite capable of handling the difficult task but is a lso sure to lead the Cl ub through a most successful year. Mr. Watson has been one of the mos t active member s of th e College Club during the past two year s and t his fact alone offers a ss uran ce that he will run the Club in a 'ne p lus ultra' fashion. During the past two years, he has served as member of th e Advisory Board, and during the past year has acted as chairman of t he Social Committee. The tine work that he h as done in t he latter capacity has won the admiration of t he stud ent body. During the past year, he likewise acted a s vice-pres ident of the Sophomore cla ss and will hold a si milar chair in the Bergin Debating Society next year. The student body can certain ly f eel that th eir choice has been excepti ona ll y good. James Brown experi enced difficu lty in winning th e office of Vice-President over Eddi e Campbell and Byr on Evard. The f act , howeve r, that he def eated these two popular men wou ld indicat e that he is entirely ti t to serve in s uc h an office. Jim is one of the most w illing rnen on t he campus and no doubt will prove a big aid to President Watson . It was to the joy of man y that Steve Long won the position of Secr etary. Steve is stead y and r eliable and will find nc difficu lty in fulfi lli ng the duties thai the office of Secretar y dema nd of him. The popu la r choice f or Trea s urer was Kenneth Clothier. The decisive manner in which Ken won over s uch able fin ancier s as Meis a nd Tucker s hows th a t the Clu b w a s not hesita nt in placin g its pecuni a r y fund in hi s hands. P erh a ps Ken's popularity will enabl e him to bol st er up a rather bedrag g led ba nk book. Mr. Allen James Nolan, r etirin g president of t he Club , was a lrn ost una nimousl y chosen as Deleg a t e-at-large to th e College Coun cil. Thoug h th e offi ce it self is not fu nctio nal, in a s m uch a s it was dissolved by Coll ege au thorit ies two yea r s back, it was placed on the lis t to g ive evidence of t li t> s tu dent s' wis h to r egai n t he pr ivileg e that was once accorded t hem. Ins ta llation ce remoni es wer e held on Wednesday, May 23 . Presiden t Nola n deli vered t he ma in depa rt ure speech and concl ud ed with the wis h t hat his successor, Mr. W a ts on, woul d enjoy a hi g hl y s uccessf ul year and t hat he wo ul d r eceive t he hea r ty cooperation of every me mber. The other r etiring officer s, likewise, coinm ended the Club on t heir wise selecti on of new offi cers a nd added t he hope t hat the lu b would continue to make t he progress t hat it has done in the past. Nomi na tions fo r the various offices wer e in order a t the mee ting of 'l ay 14. Not less th a n nine no minees dec lined the nom ination to the office of presidency but, for tu nately, t\v o of t he best choices r e-
