A VIATOR STUDENT ON THE ENDOWMENT Dayo a t college are glori ous and happy days, days of hope filled with noble nthuoiiUlll and fired by the splendor of high idealism . they a re days in wh ich the student builds within his mind the palace wherein to treuure the ins p iration that will guide him adown t h e labyri n thia n w ays o f th e futur e. It is a time in which th e re come to him argooies, laden with knowledge, sailing out of the past, ready to un load at hie feel what prophets have seen in visi on and poets in dreom. To him , in the valley, they d esce nd from t he mountain of co ntemp la tion ; where they h ave read the secret scri p ture of the w e. rid and have seen in to the mystery of life and eternity, men bearing the varied gifts of wisdom to enrich and to give dignity to his life. Up from the bowels of th e earth there come to h im men who have quarried a midst the dee p s of n a tur e bea ri n g in their volumes the im ar,es of Him self that God has flun g abroad upon the worl d. THE SELF HELP DEPARTMENT AND THE ENDOWMENT FUND One o f th e m ost un usua l a n d v a luable a d van tages offered t o the stud ents o f St. iator Co ll ege is the Self-Help d epart me n t w h ich wns established in 1920. During the six and one-h alf yea rs that this department h as been in operation students have been enabled to help themsel ves financially to the extent o f $132 , 338.72. T h is means that each student wh o h as taken a d vantage o f the op p o rtunities which tator a ffords has been able to earn an average o f $205 .82 annually by devoting abo u t two h ou rs daily to the particular duties that were assigned him.

Under the terms of the proposed Endowment this department 'viii be further augmented a nd m a de more serviceable to w o rthy students. It has been arranged tha t a certain part of the End owm e nt " ; ll be resen·ed in a special fund h om wh ich students in attendance may borrow to meet their imn1ediate needs.

Arrangemen ts will be made whe.reby the students who avail themselves of this fund may p th~r debt after they have left school by helping another worth · student or by contributing to the Endowment.

The advantage of this plan is readily apparent.
