ow - what a show in Jacksonville at the AT&T American Cup and the Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup! Hopefully you were able to catch some of the action on NBC or Universal Sports, or followed them at www.usagym.org.

Jonathan Horton and Jordyn Wieber overcame a prestigious field at the AT&T American Cup in dramatic fashion. For Jonathan it was his third title in the event, and Jordyn’s second. Jordyn edged out the reigning world champion, Aliya Mustafina of Russia, and teammate Alexandra Raisman was third. Jake Dalton took advantage of being a very-last minute replacement and turned in a solid third place performance as well. We are quite proud of the USA’s showing in this first-ever FIG all-around World Cup competition. We were also fortunate to recognize the 15th anniversary of the 1996 U.S. Women’s Olympic Team’s golden moment. Six members of the team were in Jacksonville to take part in the weekend’s activities. It is always so much fun to see them together and catch up on the latest in their lives. How time flies!!! Congratulations to all 36 of the gymnasts who qualified to compete in the second annual Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup, especially Grace Williams of Gedderts’ Twistars in Dimondale, Mich., winner of the event. The meet was a special showcase of some of the top Junior Olympic talent from around the country, who spent a wonderful weekend with our reigning Olympic champion, Nastia Liukin. A special thank you to Warner Bros. and GK Elite Sportswear for their continued support of the event, which featured a solid cast of “Supergirls.” March also started off with a bang for Julie Zetlin and Rebecca Sereda, who won the senior and junior titles, respectively, at the Rhythmic Challenge. We also recently announced the newest member of the USA Gymnastics family of corporate partners, Hilton Worldwide. The multi-year relationship focuses on support for the country’s top athletes and providing discounted rates and other benefits for our members. “It was awesome,” said Horton, who has won the American Cup twice before. “This is the second time I’ve won here in Jacksonville. I worked as hard as I could to come back, especially after my thumb injury. I’m so happy it went well today.” In her senior level event debut, Wieber had the top score of the day on three of the four events – vault, balance beam and floor exercise. She scored a 15.833 on vault for her Yurchenko 2.5. On beam, she earned a 15.266 for her routine highlighted by a standing full twist and a flip flop, flip flop 2.5 dismount. On floor, Wieber scored a 14.900, performing a double-twisting, double-tuck mount and 1.5 to triple full on her second pass. She had a problem on bars, scoring a 13.900 after missing a Tkatchev, but was able to maintain the all-around lead, scoring a 59.899.

For only the second time in the event’s history, the AT&T American Cup is part of the FIG’s World Cup series and the first of four all-around World Cup events in 2011. In accordance with the World Cup regulations, the gymnasts were invited based on performances at the 2010 World Championships.

Linden, Mich., won the all-around title at the second annual Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup at the Jacksonville Veteran’s Memorial Arena. Amelia Hundley of

Hamilton, Ohio, and Rachel Spicer of Highland Village, Texas, finished second and third, respectively, in the 36-gymnast field that boasted competitors from 18 states across the country. Proceeds from the event go to the Nastia Liukin Fund, a charitable fund within the National Gymnastics Foundation.

“I am very excited to get this opportunity to have the second annual Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup,” said Nastia Liukin, the 2008 Olympic all-around champion. “The first one was a great

She started the competition on vault with a Yurchenko 1.5 to score a 9.450. On the uneven bars she did a high Tkatchev and a tucked full-twisting double-back dismount to score a 9.650. On the balance beam she performed a series of flip flop, layout, layout step-out to score a 9.700, which was the top score on this event. She finished the competition on floor exercise with her highest score of the day, 9.725, which also was the top score on this event. Her routine included a double Arabian mount and a double tuck dismount.

“It felt great to win,” said Williams, who will turn 15 on March 26. “I just came into this competition to have fun and do my best. I didn’t know I’d win anything. I’m just a little overwhelmed and taking it all in.”

The 36 competitors were chosen for the Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup based on performances at the 17 invitationals that comprised the Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup Series. Each invitational selected a minimum of two athletes from the respective Level 10/open fields. The Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup is a partnership between Warner Bros. Consumer Products, USA Gymnastics and Liukin. The Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup and the accompanying Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup Series provide a unique competitive opportunity for the country’s rising female gymnasts.

2009 World team member Jake Dalton of Reno, Nev., won the all-around at the 2011 Winter Cup Challenge at the Las Vegas Sports Center in his home state and surrounded by his family and friends. The competition concluded on Feb. 5 and the win secures Dalton as one of eight open spots on the 2011 U.S. National Team until the 2011 Visa Championships, Aug. 17-20, in St. Paul, Minn. Dalton, who competes for the University of Oklahoma, posted a combined, two-day all-around score of 176.250. He also won two event titles, landing a beautiful triple full dismount on floor exercise to score a 32.050 and earning a 32.500 for his Kasamatsu double full on vault. He also finished second on parallel bars (30.500) and third on still rings (28.400). “It felt great today,” said Dalton. “There were a lot of talented guys out there

competing, but I went out and cleaned everything up from the first day and did what I needed to do.” 2010 World horizontal bar finalist Danell Leyva of Miami/Hilton HHonors, finished in second in the allaround with a score of 175.150. Leyva also won two event titles, parallel bars (31.600) and horizontal bar (30.900). CJ Maestas of Corrales, N.M./U.S. Olympic Training Center, took third in the all-around at 172.750, winning the still rings title (31.000). Rounding out the top five were Alex Naddour of Gilbert, Ariz./ University of Oklahoma, in fourth (170.750) and Andrew Elkind of Cherry Hill, N.J./Team Hilton HHonors, in fifth (170.600). The seven members of the 2010 World Championships Team retain their spots on the national team and based on performances, four gymnasts were selected to the U.S. Men’s Senior National Team using the National Team Point Program. Those gymnasts are Joshua Dixon of San Jose, Calif./Stanford University, Elkind, Maestas and Naddour. Three additional athletes were selected by the Men’s Program Committee: Glen Ishino of Santa Ana, Calif./University of California, Berkeley; Tyler Mizoguchi of Houston/University of Illinois; and Jesse Silverstein of Suffern, N.Y./U.S. Gymnastics Development Center II.

2010 U.S. all-around champions Julie Zetlin of Bethesda, Md., and Rebecca Sereda of Staten Island, N.Y., won their second consecutive senior and junior all-around titles, respectively, at the 2011 Rhythmic Challenge at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Twenty-year-old Zetlin, who trains at Capital Rhythmics, won the senior all-around crown with a score of 98.408. She finished first in hoop (25.875) and ribbon (25.558), second in clubs (22.900), and third in ball (24.075). Zetlin said, “Because I just competed in a Grand Prix meet in Russia the weekend before, I was more prepared. I was in better shape this year, and I don’t think the altitude affected me as much. I had to overcome some mistakes in my two new routines, and I think with me being the ‘veteran,’ my experience helped me to reclaim my title.”

Shelby Kisiel, 16, of Houston/North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center, finished second in the all-around with 94.241, placing first in clubs (23.658) and second in hoop (25.158) and ball (24.458). Alexis Page, 15, of New York, N.Y./Aviator Sports and Recreation, took third in the all-around at 89.525, hoop (23.275) and ribbon (21.742). Anastasia Torba of Orinda, Calif./Allegro Rhythmic, who placed second in ribbon (22.392), finished fourth in the all-around with an 89.066. Torba will turn 18 on March 17. Fifteen-year-old Polina Kozitskiy of Fountainville, Pa./Philadelphia Rhythmic Academy, rounded out the top five in the senior all-around with an 88.066. Sixteen-year-old Olga Pavlenko of Brooklyn, N.Y./ Isadora, only competed in two events but placed first in ball (24.600).

Fourteen-year-old Sereda, who trains at Isadora, earned a 93.716 to win the junior all-around title. She also took top honors in hoop (24.125) and ball (24.900), finished second in clubs (23.250), and placed third in ribbon (21.442). Jazzy Kerber, 14, of Highland Park, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center, finished second in the all-around with a 91.825, winning clubs at 23.900, and placing second in hoop (23.867) and ball (22.750). Cindy Lu, 15, of Staten Island Isadora Rhythmics, won ribbon at 21.967 and took third in the all-around (89.216), hoop (22.883) and ball (22.542). Serena Lu, 12, of Staten Island, N.Y/Isadora Rhythmics, finished fourth in the all-around (88.616), placing second in ribbon (21. 658) and third in clubs (22.417). Aria Rodli, 14, of Coronado, Calif./Emerald City Academy of Rhythmic Gymnastics, took fifth in the all-around at 85.358. USA Rhythmic wins 12 medals in M ntreal A lexis Page of New York City won the senior all-around title at the Montreal Rhythmic Gymnastics International Invitational in Montreal, Que., with a 92.125. Polina Kozitskiy of Fountainville, Pa., claimed the bronze with a 90.525. Austria’s Sophia Lindtner took the silver (91.800). Page, who trains at Aviator Sports and Recreation, also medaled in all four event finals. She finished first in clubs, scoring a 23.250; second in ball (23.050) and ribbon (23.075); and third in hoop (22.750). Kozitskiy, who trains at Philadelphia Rhythmic Academy, was second in clubs (22.775), fourth in hoop (22.500) and ribbon (22.650), and fifth on ball (22.600). Lindtner claimed the titles in hoop (22.925), ball (23.450) and ribbon (23.250).

Earlier in the junior invitational division, U.S. junior Jazzy Kerber of Highland Park, Ill./North Shore Rhythmics, won four medals. She won the clubs gold medal (23.675), the hoop silver medal (23.750), and the bronze medal for both ribbon (22.750) and the all-around 34

(90.850). Cindy Lu of Blaine, Minn./Twin Cities Rhythmic, was seventh in the all-around.

The USA team of Kerber, Page and Pozitskiy also brought home the team gold medal. Finland finished second, and Canada placed third. In the World Cup portion of the competition, 2010 U.S. all-around champion Julie Zetlin of Bethesda, Md., finished sixth in the all-around (96.425) and teammate Shelby Kisiel of Houston finished tenth. Belarus claimed the top two spots, with Liubou Charkashyna (107.225) and Aliaksandra Narkevich (107.200) finishing first and second, respectively. Russia’s Margarita Mamun finished in third at 106.925. Both Zetlin and Kisiel advanced to event finals. Zetlin, who trains at Capital Gymnastics, qualified for three event finals, finishing sixth in ribbon (25.675), and eighth in both ball (21.150) and clubs (24.150). Kisiel, who trains at North Shore Rhythmics, finished sixth on hoop (24.225).
