Intramural Benchmark Survey

The intramural benchmark survey is administered to all UM students who participate in the intramural sports program. HIGHLIGHTS Did the program increase academic skills in the following areas: • Teamwork skills (85% agree) • Communication skills (81% agree) • Leadership skills (65% agree)

Did the program provide the following opportunities: • Staying healthy and active (96% agree) • Stress relief (94% agree) • Networking with other students (86% agree)

ADDITIONAL FINDINGS • 99% of students report having fun was an important part of their participation in the program • 98% of students would play intramural sports again • 72% of students said that participation in the program contributed to their academic success in university

Adult Programs Participant Survey The data we collect helps us determine if we are meeting our programming objectives in a variety of areas. For our 2017/18 survey we had 1,029 respondents. HIGHLIGHTS • 94% of program participants agree that our programs has contributed to qualify of life • 84% agreed that our programs met the physical activity needs of participants • 84% of program participants agree that our programs expanded their interests in being physically fit and active

Community Outreach Our facilities and programs are also available to the general campus and surrounding communities. We have an opportunity to impact these communities by creating and providing opportunities for them to be active so that they may live better. As part of our community outreach strategy, we offered a number of events that provided complimentary access to our facilities and programs and included our Mother’s and Father’s Day open house, UM Live Well @ Work Week and our bi-annual Free Week open house. Of the 792 people that registered for Free Week, 231 visited Recreation Services for the very first time.

Student Employment

Students employed by Recreation Services develop leadership skills, build a sense of community, and enhance their professional development through practical and relevant applications that prepare them for the future. Recreation Services continues to be one of the largest student employers on campus. HIGHLIGHTS • 45+ students were employed as supervisors, officials and scorekeepers with the Intramural Sports program working a combined total of approximately 2,200 hours • Over 43 U of M students were employed as Customer Service Representatives working approximately 16,900 hours • 13+ students were employed as Fitness Attendants in the Active Living Centre working aproximately 12,000 hours

Highlights

NIRSA CANADA REGION CONFERENCE

U of M Recreation Services hosted the 2017 NIRSA Canada Region conferemce. This was the first conference under the newly minted Canadian Region. The event provided an opportunity for the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management at the University of Manitoba to show off it’s wonderful facilities and services to other recreation and leisure professionals.

HIGHLIGHTS:

• We had 27 presenters attend and offer a wide variety of informational sessions on campus recreationrelated topics

• 132 participants were in attendance for the conference

• During the event, participants had the opportunity to take a tour of the Bombers Stadium & state-of-the-art Active Living Centre

• The U of M Mini U department organized a game night at Epic Escape followed by dinner at Saddlery On Market

• We were happy to host two incredible keynote speakers with Adrienne Leslie-Toogood providing an insightful presentation on the first night, and keynote speaker Dean Kreillaars presenting on the importance of physical litteracy on the second night.

• We had 11 sponsors contribute to the events success including: Vita Health, Apple Fitness, Field Turf, Fitness Assets, Innosoft, Matrix, Precor, RRCC, Stantec, and TechnoGym
