7H[W $QG 3KRWRV %\ '$9,' +$=/(',1( 6WDII :ULWHU On Saturday, April 10, Moose Lodge 1107 in Rochester presented members of Rochester Fire Department with a check for $500 for the purchase of smoke detectors, along with a donation of 12 Tommy Moose stuffed animals. In attendance was Moose International Supreme Governor Bruce Berger, currently on a tour of nearly 350 lodges across the U.S. and Great Britain. Every year, Rochester firemen organize a “Smoke Detector Blitz,” going door-to-door in a chosen neighborhood to check detectors and ensure residents have an escape plan in the event of a fire. In 2020, the department distributed more than 50 detectors, said Fire Chief Tom Butler, who thanked Lodge 1107 for the donation. “Local support is always appreciated,” he said, noting it sometimes “takes a while” to receive supplies from the state. Butler added his department has been busy, averaging two calls per day. Already Rochester Fire have responded to roughly 60 structure or grass fires in 2021.
