Program Notes

Redshift is a “moto perpetuo” style marimba solo in which flowing passages and sparkling melodies give way to deviations, progressively shifting the piece into new sound worlds. Metric modulations and added/subtracted beats keep the piece always moving forward in unexpected ways.

This piece was written for a consortium commission led by Josh Fulford, which included percussionists Robert Clayson, Cameron Leach, Zachary Cook, Russell Wharton, Joe Kulick, Chin-Li Sophia Lo, and Paul Millette.
