Program Notes Lattes on the House is an introductory percussion ensemble piece utilizing the three sizes of conga drums—quinto (small), conga (medium), and tumba (large)—along with claves and tambourine. After an exciting exposition featuring solos from the sections, all the performers work together to create grooves with their unique timbres. The middle of the piece allows each section to strut their stuff with a lengthy solo accompanied by the rest of the ensemble. Finally the piece comes to a grand finale with two long crescendos. You and your students are sure to enjoy learning and performing Lattes on the House, so order yourself a cappuccino and get ready for a musical treat!
Performance Notes Lattes on the House was written to teach the application of beginning rhythms to a percussion ensemble. Make sure your students understand the following rhythms before assigning this piece: • Half notes, quarter notes, and eighth-note pairs • Half rests and quarter rests • Basic sixteenth-note combinations (four sixteenth notes and two sixteenth notes plus an eighth note)

With the quinto, conga, and tumba parts, note heads below the line should be performed as bass tones, while note heads above the line should 8be performed as open tones.

If you have students who are having trouble grasping sixteenth-note figures or sticking coordination, the clave part does not contain either. This allows for differentiation in the learning process.
