How Sweet it is!

my name. Honest and right is my word. I will use my light to cast out the darkness. Forever I fly free as a bird Robert Kerns Grade 9, Timken Senior High

The Soldier When I am happy, I am like a ranger who just finished boot camp When I am sad, I am like a soldier without a weapon When I am lonely, I am like a bullet in an empty battlefield When I am tired, I am like the top marine after a hard mission When I am angry, I am like a sergeant on a bad day When I am embarrassed, I am like the one guy who failed in training When I am playing baseball, I am like the marksman who never misses When I am playing Xbox, I am like a five star general When I am hungry, I am like a gun waiting to be fired When I am thirsty, I am like a bullet waiting for a target When I am fighting for freedom, I am like an SV Cardinal When I am bored, I am like a soldier without a mission When I am hiding, I am like a sniper in the trees. Cousin is now part of the family. She fits real fine and liked by all. She made her way into our hearts by being kind, pleasant, and nice. On the “out” the same they seem, twin Cousins, but on the “in,” the differences are dozens. A best friend and cousin she is, loved by all, making us laugh and sigh sometimes, too. But a truer friend there isn’t. We’re all so different and all so the same. We’re a family team. Each would fall without the others. Joined together we make a great wall. This is family and a great one at that. We enjoy the quarks and the foolishnesses. We may get annoyed and have a slight spat. But we are a family, just remember that. Simile Love is flaring red It sounds like birds singing It feels like the warmth of someone holding you It smells like warm apple pie It tastes like sweet candy apple It looks like two white doves flying together side by side Love is walking with somebody hand in hand on the beach Anthony Knag Grade 8, Hartford Middle School

Couplet poem

Family

I used to think life was so easy and cool. Now I see my friends locked up; That’s why I stay in school.

What makes a family? What makes it one? All the differences and people rolled into one. Family is big, we’re all very different, but together we’re a great team. Grandmother is a light and a guide, steering the ship, and helping us know, just which way is right to go. Grandfather, full of life, makes us sure that it’s great to live. Parents are kind and loving, ready to help. They pick up their children when they fall, they help us be strong. Uncle loves us all. He’s generous, kind, and listens, too. Cousin is quiet and seems that he doesn’t care, if a family we are or are not. But underneath he cares more than any.

Now I am older, and I see it happening Young kids sitting on the corner, just rapping. I can envision where I want to be. Education is the life for me. Devon Mills Grade 8, Hartford Middle School
