Screens light up the Green THE 2016 Peninsula Short Film Fest started on Friday with a screening of Broke at Rosebud Cinemas. Broke was the first production shown in the new Oz Indie Showcase section of the festival which aims to screen previously unreleased Australian independent films. The public part of the festival started at 4pm Saturday on the Village Green, Rosebud, with live entertainment and family fun before the showing of the 12 short film finalists. The films are competing for a $30,000 prize pool, including $5000 for the winner, $2500 for second and $1250 third. There is also a $500 Woodleigh Emerging Filmmaker award. Judges are Peter Helliar, Michala Banas, Lachy Hulme, Damon Gameau, Rob Connolly and Pia Miranda. Talks to help elderly abuse victims Stephen Taylor steve@mpnews.com.au “SOMEONE cries and asks for help� every time Peninsula Advisory Committee for Elders chair Jeanette Lane and her group run an Elder Abuse Awareness Day. “People talk about family violence but we think elder abuse is about the

Speakers are federal Attorney General George Brandis, Age Discrimination Commissioner Susan Ryan and Professor Marie Beaulieu, of Quebec, an expert on elder abuse.
