Al-Giza Park Project Location: Giza, Egypt Owner: General Central Development Authority Project Area: 38 acre Discipline/Services: Master Planning. Landscape Architecture. Architecture. Engineering. Site Supervision

The Giza Governorate invited Sites International to convert part of a former airport into a 38–acre park for the densely populated district of Embaba. The design theme reflects Egypt’s major ecological zones: Nile River, valley, oases and hills. The architecture of the park buildings evokes the rich and diverse aesthetics of the different ecological zones through distinct vocabularies, motifs, building typologies, materials and finishes. The Nile’s centrality to Egyptian life is represented by a stream that originates at the visitors’ entrance and winds through the entire site, connecting all the park activities. The oasis occupies a secluded area, offering a peaceful zone covered with palm groves surrounding a central water spring. Among the highlights of the park are boat rides, re–created agricultural fields and waterwheels.
