February 24, 1993, internationally acclaimed soprano Sylvia McNair and baritone William Stone performed with the University Symphony Orchestra and combined choral forces under the baton of conductor Robert Shaw. On the same concert Shaw conducted the University Sinfonietta and Concert Band in Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms and Hindesmith's Apparebit Repentina Dies, to open the College Band Directors National Association's convention here. McNair and Stone were soloists for the special performance of Brahms' A German Requiem (Ein Deutsches Requiem) at 8 p.m. Feb. 27 in Mershon Auditorium. McNair, who in 1990 was the first recipient of the Marian Anderson Award, had performed in the world's great opera houses and appeared with several orchestras. Stone was a leading baritone in the New York City Opera. the Shaw was a visiting professor of music and director of the Robert Shaw Choral Institute at Ohio State.

Shaw to conduct two perfonnances
