HEALTH—The Variant

“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” 3 John 1:2 NIV

A major concern right now is the Delta -2 virus, a highly contagious (and possibly more severe) SARSCoV-2 virus strain, which was first identified in India in December. The first Delta case in the United States was diagnosed in March and now cases here are rapidly multiplying.

From what we know so far, people who are vaccinated against the coronavirus appear to be safe from Delta, but anyone who is unvaccinated and not practicing preventive strategies is at risk for infection by the new variant.

As of July 3, the latest date for which data was available, the Delta variant accounted for 51.7% of new Covid-19 cases. Studies have shown that the Covid-19 vaccines are effective against multiple variants, including the Delta variant.

While those who have been fully vaccinated are believed to have high levels of protection, there is growing concern about the virus spreading among people who have not been inoculated.

Delta might be twice as contagious as the initial variants of the coronavirus that spread rapidly around the globe last year.

Here are five things you need to know about the Delta variant. Delta is more contagious than the other virus strains. 2. People who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 are most at risk. 3. Delta could lead to 'hyperlocal outbreaks.' 4. There is still more to learn about Delta. 5. Vaccination is the best protection.

Whether or not you are vaccinated, it’s also important to follow CDC prevention guidelines: Wear a mask———Stay 6 feet away from others———Avoid crowds and poorly ventilated spaces ——— Wash your hands ——— Cover cough and sneezes ———Clean and disinfect high touch surfaces ——— Monitor your health ———Get vaccinated.

“Get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life.” Proverbs 19:20 NLT
