Seaford Young Mayor’s Campaign

Lounge @ Seaford Baptist Church, BN25 2EE Starting from November

Seaford Young Mayor, Erin Franklin’s initiative aims to reduce the amount of waste caused by disposable coffee cups by working with local coffee shops in Seaford.

Sadly, as we have seen in Seaford over the summer, this leads to a lot of extra litter on our beaches, parks and pavements, and of course has a negative environmental impact. However, the Young Mayor, supported by Plastic Free Seaford and Seaford Environmental Alliance, aims to start a campaign to turn the tide on disposable coffee cups by asking all coffee outlets in the town to think about how they can encourage customers to bring their own cups.

Tuesday mornings : 9-12 Wednesday mornings: 9-12 Wednesday afternoon: 2-5 Facility for making hot drinks Small library and some games available Toilet facilities

Did you know? Every single day 2.5 billion cups are thrown away. In the UK the coffee cups that end up in landfill produce an annual carbon footprint equivalent to 33,300 cars per a year.

Unfortunately, recyclable and compostable cups are not the answer either. Only 1 in 400 cups are correctly recycled or commercially composted.

What can the residents of Seaford do to help?

The campaign will be launched next year – which we hope you will support – in the meantime... Christmas is coming, so buying a reusable coffee cup will make a great little gift, whilst helping to end this needless waste.

Reusable cups are available to buy locally so please support our local shops!
