This month’s featured woodworker is Jim Austin. Jim came to SCOV from Southern California several years ago. A former utility foreman and planner with SCEdison, Jim is one of the SCOV Wood Shop regulars. These beautiful lazy Susans were created from exotic and domestic hardwoods as gifts for his wife and daughters. Jim loves the ability to be creative and encourages all SCOV residents to come by and check out our incredible Wood Shop.

Hello women of SCOV. Praying you have all been experiencing a great summer. Those of us who stayed in town were witness to the wettest July ever in Tucson since 1894. What an awesome show of God’s power in the monsoon storms and much needed rain. We are so excited to begin a short (nine weeks) study of the book of Philippians, “How to Have Joy!” How do I live the Christian life joyfully regardless of people or circumstances? What is the purpose of suffering? Do I have the “mind of Christ”? Discover true, deepdown joy in your life that the world cannot take away. Our study will be Wednesdays, October 6 through December 8, with the week of Thanksgiving off. If you are new to SCOV or just have questions, call Elaine Farmer 253-318-0018.

Pres. Barbara Gates 302-354-6615 VP Maryfaith Fox 612-414-7789 maryfaith.fox@gmail.com Oct.-Apr., First and Third Wed., 2 PM, Catalina Vista/Mt. Lemmon

Our club gives members an opportunity for lively discussions of challenging ideas raised by our short selections from a very wide range of texts. We jump from classic essays on politics or philosophy to stimulating contemporary fiction. We will resume meeting Wednesday, October 6, with a Zoom discussion of Raymond Carver’s “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love.” After that, we hope to be back in person at Catalina Vista. Members are reminded to look over the possible selections for subsequent meetings. Newcomers can contact Barbara or Maryfaith for more information.

Dear fellow book lovers: I hope you’re all enjoying the warm weather and finding great books to read. During our long hiatus, the club leadership has become involved in other projects and no longer has the time or, in some cases, energy to devote to running the book club.
