Two jounalists tie the knot in a ceremony that honors personal history and the power of place.

Jessica Savage was born and raised in Savannah, but she was working at an East Texas newspaper when she met fellow journalist Steven Alford. From that day on, the pair was inseparable. “Our co-workers called us the ‘Bobbsey Twins,’” Jessica recalls. When Steven popped the question, there was no doubt in Jessica’s mind that she would marry him in her hometown—and treat her new Texas family and friends to a true Savannah celebration. The couple teamed up with From this Day Forward’s Meredith Stroud to plan a wedding that would showcase the Hostess City’s storied architecture, timeless style and festive spirit—with a splash of Art Deco inspiration. A Garden Party “Jessica’s original vision was a vintage-inspired wedding featuring the soft colors of spring and the historic charm of Savannah,” says Meredith, who suggested the lavish Harper Fowlkes House garden as a ceremony and reception site. The stunning Greek Revival gem is situated on Orleans Square, where Jessica posed for high school graduation photos more than a decade ago. “The venue was the perfect place to celebrate another milestone,” the bride affirms. With the location confirmed, Meredith and Jessica set about personalizing the event with meaningful details. Jessica’s cousin, a talented graphic designer, created custom invitations that, Meredith says, “highlighted a vintage, Art Deco design Jessica had envisioned from the beginning.” The planner brought this inspiration to life with metallic
