about me My name is Richelle Nieto. I am currently employed in the engineering industry. I have been design drafting in the electrical/mechanical sector for the past year and a half. As of 2011, I obtained my Bachelors degree in Architecture and a minor in Urban Design. Since April of 2012, I have been a LEED Green Associate.

Beyond this, my background includes four years of studio design experience and urban planning education. I have significant AutoCAD proficiency, as well as Adobe illustrator, Photoshop, Google Sketchup, and Revit experience.

My resume provides additional details about my background.

I am eager to gain further experience to succeed in this career. I want to gain further knowledge about this profession from an architectural standpoint.

SQUARE CIRCLE HEADQUARTERS

This building was designed during a study abroad trip to London, UK. Our task as a partner pair within our studio was to design the Square Circle Headquarters Building, a multi-purpose, multi-tenant building in the Canary Wharf business center along the Thames River in London. The program required space for mulitple tenants to rent out at one time. Square Circle’s mission is to foster their clients and be whatever they need and more. The project was centered around sustainability and the use of the site within the context of the building as well as what this area truly stands for. It is an area known for its modern take on the business world. It is cutting edge and rising.

Sustainable Tactics

Daylighting The building uses a lot of glass for this reason and for natural lighting, which has been proven to increase work effieciency and the health of happy employees.

Our windows will be louvred and able to operate according to any amount of ventilation and amount of air needed.

Vertical Louvre System Due to this amount of daylighting, we chose to use veritcal louvres on our east and west walls to block out indirect sunlight and prevent glare in the interior spaces of the building.

They are made of GKD Metal Fabric and are suspended from the top of the window, hung down to the proper height, and then secured at the bottom. We chose a Sambesi type of fabric which has a 42% transparency.

Extensive Green Roofs This type of green roof is designed to be lightweight and brings the maximum amount of environmental benefits to a building that a green roof can. These roofs are six inched deep or less and are not accessible to the public. They will also collect rainwater which will be transferred through the gutters and brought to holding tanks later to be recycled throughout the building.

Rain Water Harvesting This can end up saving over 50% of water traditionally used. The process involves water collected from roofs via traditional guttering, through down pipes to an underground tank. Delivered on demand by an in-tank submersible pump directly to toilets, washing machines and outside tap use, wherever water is needed.

Tech Town Tech Town is a business development, as office park, based in the theme of technology and the utmost focus on the development of these new technology based companies placed in this area. Out of an assortment of different lots, I was assigned building lot ‘J’. My main goal was to relate my building to the site in the best manner possible while still being sensitive to my cluster of neighbors. The structure relates to nearby parl on an accentuated axis.

This building does a successful job of drawing people in form the view of the street. It succeeds in terms of solar control.

The building uses it’s space effiectively and gives any tenant client the flexibility they need to be succeswsful in their own way

After making a site visit to the existing IBMM in Owensboro, Kentucky, it was apparent this was a very complex design issue to which we as a studio had to further research Bluegrass culture. I began my design process with the study of the adaptive reuse design of a fashion design headquarters. I discovered a stair feature going through the center of the building, which left the exterior of the building virtually the way it was, an example of how it was adaptively reused. I liked the idea, in the context of my building, of gathering light into the space and therefore naturally lighting parts of the facility. There would be a main stair within my building that would lead to the roof through the two existing levels. There is a wood column feature present in various exterior areas. Where these are found, a main gathering space is found also. I wanted to ensure that throughout the entire museum, I was paying homage to the Bluegrass culture and all that it is. The new international facility invites so many opportunities for the community and lovers of Bluegrass music to gather from all over the world to celebrate the roots of the culture. and its future..

Cook Field Pavilion This pavilions site was based on Cook Field at Miami University in Oxford, OH.The Pavillion was meant to house various activities at the University, weddings, performances, what have you. It was designed to be a multi purpose facility and relies on being closely related to and working with the site. This was one of the first buildings whereI experimented with the use of solar panels, and using the orientation of the building and as organic flow in terms of the shape of the building to harvest solar energy. I looked into many precedents and delved into this aspect of sustainability in studio building design.

The cafe contains a lot of recycled wood on the facade as well as inside. The counter tops are made of recycled metals, sustainable stainless steel. Green Beans coffee company is branded off a design of the creation of a storefront design. As a studio we went through a series of schematic designs in which we drew inspiration. We also underwent the branding process. It was beneficial to identify our clients, and the form that the storefront ended up taking on. Within the entrance of the store we designed the mainframe about 3 ft. into the interior space. We explored the main ideas of what our company stood for and what we waned it to say for itself right away. The front image tells the client all they need to know.

This spa was done as part of an interdisciplinary studio.

This project was done with a group of three graphic designers, one interior designer, and one architect, me.. we were given a site in Pyramid Hill sculpture Park, in Hamilton, Ohio. The job was to create a place for a speciďŹ c clientele that we formulated from a speciďŹ c individual.
