Theta Tau Graduates 10

On May 9, 2009, ten of our brothers graduated from High Point University: Jeremy Anderson, Manuel Chalco, Chris McMahan, Aubrey Middleton, Daniel Page, Brian Patton, Christopher Ryder, Isaac Yang, Jerry Yang, and James Yarbough. Brother Brandon Hill also received his Masters Degree. Although they may be now moving on to bigger and better things we will truly miss them and their wisdom. Before graduating, they greatly contributed to our chapter, winning the Academic Achievement Award (for highest fraternity GPA) and Fraternity of the Year for 2008 – 2009 at the HPU Student Life Honors Day. Without these ten men, we would have not been able to achieve this highest honor.

These men truly are leaving behind a legacy – and their contributions to the chapter will never be forgotten. Also we hope to see them regularly, and from time to time. Please keep in touch with us, pay HPU a visit! This is YOUR fraternity!

Brothers Attend Pi Kapp College

Being an odd year, it was time once again for Pi Kapp College. Theta Tau chapter, like every chapter, sent three delegates to the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina, our place of founding. Brothers Brennan Hand, Dave Rad, and myself attended. Over the course of the weekend each brother attended his own unique track at the leadership conference. Brennan went on the chaplain track, Dave, the archon track, and I was on the Standards Board track. These brothers were charged with the responsibility of learning all the new material that nationals had to offer, and teaching it to our fellow brothers upon returning to school in August. During the weekend, we met many brothers from other chapters. Among these brothers were Mark E. Timmes (AE, Florida), CEO of Pi Kappa Phi, and Durward Own (Ξ, Roanoke), Honorary 4th Founder.

chapter chartered.

Our chapter received many honors, including Master Chapter Status in Living the Ritual, Effective Alumni Relations, Superior Member Education, and Academic Success.

We also received the Emerging Leadership Award on behalf of Brother Brian Thomas, for his commitment to Push America. Our final honor was the Added Value Award for Alumni Initiation. The weekend was definitely a success.

I’m In LA Trick: Greek Week 2009

“Go Pi Kapp….Go Zeta…Go Delta Sigma Theta” was the chant that lead the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity to their second Lip Sync win in two years; that’s right we are back to back champions. This year we had the help of the lovely ladies from Zeta Tau Alpha. Greek Week 2009 consisted of 4 teams: Los Angeles, Sante Fe, Chicago, and St. Louis. Our team, LA paired up with the lovely ladies/lady of Zeta Tau Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta. The week consisted of events such as a Date Auction, Pizza Eating contest, Toga Bowling, flag football, tug of war, and Lip Sync.

There was also the Penny Wars for our Greek Goddess and Greek God. (see “Greek Week” next page) Team L.A. on the Intramural Fields between Flag Football Games.

Ibrahim Kanu and Brennan Hand were the brave men that wanted to be auctioned off and our very own Ibrahim Kanu proposed to Mrs. Gail Tuttle, dean of Student Life, but Ibrahim took the money and ran. Josh Jenkins tried to win us the pizza eating contest but he found out that trying to stuff the whole pizza down in one bite isn’t going to get you far. Our toga bowling team consisted of our all star bowlers Dave Rad, Chris Michael, and Andrew Realon.

These boys knew how to bowl and rock a toga, coming in second place. When we took part in the athletic events we started out with both a win in football and tug of war but that was it. After every event that we participated in we went right to work on our Lip Sync dance because we knew we had another win in us. So Friday came and it was time to put our hard work to the real test and we passed - boy did we pass! We were sent to the volleyball game to find out our results and the results made for the best volleyball game ever. We waited and waited and then we heard that we had won Lip Sync for the second year in a row; can you say “dynasty”! The celebration only got louder when our very own Dave Rad was crowned as the Greek God along with the very beautiful Nicole VanHessen who is an Alpha Gamma Delta. The week was long and fun because how can you not have fun when you are parried up with the Zetas and the beautiful lady of Delta Sigma Theta.
