elcome to the Alberta Charolais Association Select Pen Bull Show & Sale. This is an event you don’t want to miss starting with the ACA AGM on Thursday afternoon, followed by supper and then the Select Single Bull Show. On Friday morning there is the Select Pen Bull Show with draws of $11,000 in Bull Sale Credits and Pick of the Barn Winner. The finale of the two days is the Select sale and what an offering we have in store for you. We were very excited to be helping with the sale this year and the breeders responded by putting their best in. As you will see in the catalogue there are some exciting embryo/flush offerings from some of the great donor cows in the breed. This is an opportunity to buy genetics that will put you at the forefront of the industry. There are a couple of semen offerings from proven herdbulls that weren’t publically available before. We have some picks of programs that allow you to get into the keeper pen and find a great one. There are a few very select herdbull prospects and everything from full French to Red Factor in all categories. The

McKeary Charolais are pleased to offer a female “Pick of the Herd.” When Helge suggested it in June, it took a few family suppers to finally all agree that it was a great idea. We are excited to show off a multitude of females to select from that have the potential to enhance your herd. Not only are we offering females produced on our own farm but also from Loewen Charolais and Raymond and Barb Airey’s HTA herd. These two herds have been large additions to the making of one great cow herd. This is your once in a lifetime opportunity to select one of the next great cows. Until now, we have never offered semen on Prowler and this will be the only semen we offer for the 2014 breeding season. In his first calf crop, Prowler sired an exceptional set of calves including CML Aces Wild 1Z, who sold for $25,000 to White Lake Colony, Barons, AB. Prowler has one of the most impressive sets of EPD you will find in the business – just examine his 99 Calving Ease and -2.0 Birth Weight EPD along with a 26.4 Milk EPD. We have bred Prowler to heifers, so we know that he is an easy calver. You can use him to add length of body, extra frame size, and he will put a good big foot on his offspring. And the other big plus is that the Prowler calves have a great disposition.

Helge came out to look at the heifer calves for the pick, and he asked if we would sell the full ET brother. So here he is – PCC GUNSLINGER 316A, Bull Calf Champion at the Olds Fall Classic. Gunslinger is just a March 1 calf, but he packs a big punch as you can tell when you stand behind him. He has a huge hip, big time top, Gunslinger is a proud rascal, always walking around showing himself off, as you can tell in the great photo Craig snapped of him. He is full brother to the heifer calves so he is backed with all the predictability they possess. We feel Madison is one of the very best females in the whole Charolais breed. She combines so many good things, she still has a perfect udder at the age of 12 and has a 33.9 milk EPD, she still produces power as her natural March bull calf weaned off at 820 lb. on October 1st. She has produced a herdbull for Loewens and Hirshs and females that went onto Rainalta, Billy Flemming and Paul Walzack, as well as a monopoly flush to Danny Hanson. This is the first calf crop out of Sparrows Kingston 139Y which was the high seller at Sparrows bull sale in 2012. Cassy’s dam was my pick of the Castine dispersal a couple years ago and raised one of our feature bulls in last year’s bull sale selling to Lazy S Charolais. I believe this is the 1st daughter of Diablo 2X to sell. He needs no introduction as he was the Denver Grand Champion bull of a year ago. By sale time we should also know the results of how his full brother Encore does at Farmfair. What we’re seeing of our Diablos is consistency. If you were to see his dam at Rod McLeod’s place you would know where that consistency is coming from. There is great hair on these calves. Our commercial bull customers loved the Diablo hair. If it’s important to them, it is to us as well, so when I see a heifer like 3098A with a great coat of hair, I know that part of the game is handled. I like this heifer. This is the culmination of our breeding program. With a birth weight of 92 lb., this heifer from an Easy Blend son and out of a Blanco/Channing dam proves the merit of our program.
