fisw.org Being bilingual is good for your brain! Why? Studies show that children who learn a second language early in life have enhanced cognitive development. Bilingual students not only speak two languages fluently, but also have excellent mastery of their native language, often surpassing their monolingual peers. These studies also indicate that the regular use of two languages enhances a student’s ability in the areas of abstraction, symbolism, mathematics and problem solving. FISW curriculum is designed to cultivate students’ openness to the world and challenge them in a nurturing environment that encourages risktaking. Taught in French 75% of the day, and in English 25% of the day, students learn to take the “traditional skills” that every school teaches and use them – to address new situations, to solve problems, to collaborate with others. Using these skills in real life situations helps students think critically, take initiative and use their imagination.

• Bilingual Immersion Program

Graduates from FISW have increased critical thinking skills, a higher ability to focus and excel academically. Advantages that last a lifetime!

seattlegirlsschool.org At Seattle Girls’ School we inspire and develop courageous leaders who think independently, work collaboratively, learn joyfully, and champion change. Middle school is a critical time for development - especially for girls. As girls reach early adolescence, their self-esteem and interest in certain subjects is likely to plummet as a result of being bombarded by conflicting messages about femininity and achievement. Seattle Girls’ School combats the trend of girls losing confidence before competence, especially in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math, with a transformative experience for girls in grades 5-8. At SGS, girls are challenged to discover who they are and who they want to become. Our project-based curriculum, grounded in realworld experiences, offers endless opportunities for leadership, collaboration, and problem solving. We invite you to witness what countless visitors to our campus experience: poised, confident, and actively engaged students. Our alumnae, when reflecting on their educational experience as a whole, often attribute who they become and what they achieve to the transformative experiences they had at SGS - their middle school!

yellowwoodacademy.org This is not a Henry Ford assembly line education. This is a school that recognizes that every student is different. So we create a custom curriculum tailored to each student. That may be for a student who has opportunities to learn while traveling with family. Or a student who is ahead in some areas, but behind in others. Perhaps it’s a student with extraordinary talents in the arts or other endeavors. Whatever the case, we provide an incredibly flexible and dedicated learning environment. A curriculum constructed for the individual. It’s an uncommon solution, but for children with a variety of needs and speeds of learning, it’s the right path to take. A path that leaves the production line education model far behind. Come tour our school and see how we can illuminate this path for you.

Whatever diversity your family might bring, you will find yourself welcomed at any of our NWAIS schools.

With different missions, educational philosophies and cultures, the 113 independent (private) schools in the Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS) provide a range of educational options. Although there are many differences, our schools are similar in very important ways in that they: • Provide a safe environment for students to learn • Believe in providing an atmosphere that encourages hard work, leadership, personal responsibility and good citizenship • Provide small class sizes so that teachers may devote full attention to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional needs of all students • Provide high quality and accessible teachers who combine top teaching skills with a passion for their subject areas • Provide financial aid grants based on the need of the family • Have a commitment to diversity and inclusion. For more information on the diverse array of independent schools, please visit us online at NWAIS.org or give any of our member schools a call. We invite you to attend one of our scheduled open houses or arrange for a school tour. We think you’ll be glad you did!
