he beautifully retro Old Cinema Launderette in Gilesgate began life in 1928 as a cinema named The Crescent before shutting down in 1958. As a big part of the history of the surrounding area, it now serves as a fully functioning launderette whilst being transformed into an intimate gig space on evenings. Acoustic bands of many varieties play to a small crowd against the quirky backdrop of vintage posters, velvet curtains and kitsch accessories. The venue also boasts a café with cakes, coffee and old school snacks, while a BYOB policy exists. They even do free pick-ups and drop-offs for laundry for students, with Hatfield and Cuth’s being particularly good customers. Richard and his wife wanted to reflect the history
