It also seems that the one closer to the door is more “in control.” This can be either the male or the female, depending on who plays the strongest role in their relationship. If you go back to caveman days, the father or the protector always slept on the side closest to the cave opening so as to be in the best position to protect his family should an intruder come in. These days, however, I have noticed just as often that it is the female who sleeps closer to the door.

My side, your side Sometimes people get accustomed to sleeping on a certain side of the bed, and then when a couple moves to a new home, each keeps the side that is familiar even when the position of the door has changed. When I have asked them to think back to the original home in which each began sleeping on a certain side, the answer often matches my theory.

I also suggest this exercise when a couple is in conflict and has opposing viewpoints. The exercise allows them to “be in each other’s energy” and often helps them reach a balanced resolution by reducing the polarity. Couples have reported that switching sides is uncomfortable and weird at first. In most cases, the one who sleeps nearest the door sleeps better than the other one, but eventually they go back to their original positions. Only a few couples out of a few dozen have reported that they like the new positions better.

If you are up for some change, see how it feels to sleep on a different side of the bed tonight. Even if you sleep alone, you likely tend to gravitate toward one side or the other. Installing sidewalks, driveways, fences and gates will be the final fphase. The house is not extremely large in terms of square feet, but will â&#x20AC;&#x153;live large,â&#x20AC;? meaning it has a feeling of spaciousness from an open and functional layout and from natural light that floods the interiors throughout the day. A big concern for the homeowners was noise abatement since their home is situated downwind, and less than 50 feet from the H-1 freeway. Insulation in the walls and ceilings and the use of Quiet Rock drywall, in addition to dual glazed windows, makes the interior very

quiet and peaceful. Ensuring the new home will be as energy-efficient as possible also was high on the coupleâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s list. Working closely with the homeowners, Graham Builders installed a light gray â&#x20AC;&#x153;cool roofâ&#x20AC;? that minimizes heat transfer and obscure glass clerestory windows in the great room, which will reduce the need for lights during the daytime, among other green features. The Perfect Paint Job O

ne of San Francisco’s top vintage home painting contractors, Jimmy Suh, moved his business to Honolulu two years ago and was quickly recognized for the quality of his meticulous work. A record of the hundreds of homes, both vintage and new construction, that Suh transformed during his 15 years in San Francisco can be viewed on a DVD he makes available upon request. Once we can determine how long the job will take, we can provide a cost estimate. If it’s necessary to stay within a specified budget, we can always tailor the job to suit the

owner’s financial resources. The one thing we won’t compromise on is quality.” Suh provides estimates personally and makes it a point to supervise every
