Sports Hall Announces 2015 Inductees ~ Courtesy Norfolk County Sports Hall of Recognition

he Norfolk County Sports Hall of Recognition is pleased to announce that the late Jim Cleaver, Jason Gordy, Ashley Haskett, and Ron Kowalsky will all be added to the Wall of Recognition.
“These four people have been respected athletes and builders of sports for a very long time. They have achieved great success and are very deserving of this recognition,” says Don Stewart Sports Hall chairperson. Cleaver was an outstanding curler who successfully represented the Simcoe Curling Club for many years in numerous provincial bonspiels. He often, and usually anonymously, financially supported a variety of minor sports teams and organizations. Special Olympian Jason Gordy has successfully competed in many of the sports from bowling to swimming. Whether he is competing, coaching, volunteering or working his smile is recognized wherever he goes in Norfolk and he is highly regarded by Special Olympics Ontario. Special Olympian Ashley Haskett is another highly decorated athlete who has travelled the world to compete and represent Simcoe and Norfolk County. Swimming is her forte but it’s her hard work and dedication that are the envy of the people who know her. Norfolk was on the map before Gordy and Haskett but, because of them, people know where Norfolk is. “These two represent everything that sport should be,” says Stewart. Kowalsky, in addition to his polished writing skills, was an advocate for the development of sports and the expansion of sporting facilities in Simcoe and Norfolk. He was a founding member of the Simcoe Sports Hall of Recognition now the Norfolk County Sports Hall of Recognition. These four outstanding individuals along with the 2016 inductees will be officially inducted into the Hall at a gala celebration in 2017.
