Fresh Squeezed Want to refresh winter-weary spaces? Try a splash of designer Megan Hudacky’s current color obsession: citrus IT MAY HAVE BEEN A FULL YEAR since Pantone proclaimed the bright and bold Tangerine Tango as its color of the year, but orange is still as hot as ever, on display in high-end showrooms and appearing in everything from lamps to lacquered casegoods and large upholstered pieces. Interior designer Megan Hudacky of Denver-based cky design is a big fan of Benjamin Moore’s Tangelo, a lighter version of the powerful hue. “Citrusy orange is a vibrant color that won’t overwhelm a space,” says the designer, who likes the color for its flexibility and daring. “It’s not intimidated by other pops of color, such as green.” ckydesigns.com
juice up your rooms Introducing a bold color, such as Benjamin Moore’s Tangelo, to your space can be intimidating. Let Hudacky’s tips boost your confidence: Start small. Introduce citrus to a room through accessories: pillows, floral arrangements, sculpture and artwork. Make a statement. Large pieces of orange furniture, such as the Gus Modern sofa in Laurentian Citrine (pictured below), promise to add drama. Feeling especially sassy? Consider a juicy, high-gloss coat of orange for your front door. Go big. Dive in head first and paint a wall—or an entire room—orange.
