What Wood You Do?

Whether living in an apartment, starter home or your dream home, we’re pretty sure we all can agree -- a beautiful, comfortable space that we can be proud of and enjoy is important to us! Another common ground always seems to be regarding space -- there just never seems to be enough of it (especially if you live in a big city)! Oftentimes we’re challenged to make the most of tiny spaces, and some of the ways we’ve learned to do this is by keeping things simple and light -- but when the season changes and autumn begins, we crave natural elements, warm colors and depth in our nests.

So, in effort to break free from our comfort zone and strategically add natural wood into our spaces, we consulted Homepolish, an affordable interior design service that needless to say, just gets it. Here are some subtle ways to incorporate the change in season into your space.

Couch

An upholstered piece with a woodframe give some structure and also makes it feel less bulky.

Frame

Using wooden frames lets you display your art much less like a gallery, and in a warmer and more inviting way.

Table

In an almost completely white space, bring in a wood element and emphasize a particularly interesting piece.

Antlers

Incorporating an organic element helps to create a space that feels less cold, and more cozy.

Stool

This high-gloss white finish against the organic texture of the wood creates a juxtaposition with this piece that works effortlessly together.

Mirror

There are all different types of wood finishes, rustic reclaimed wood like this is a great way to incorporate something special into your place.

Plates

Small details like these plates are great to bring in wood without investing in larger pieces.

Chest

This piece becomes the focal point in your space by making it the only element that’s wood. It creates a strong impression that allows it to be the focus.

Extra Tips for Fall

Here are some simple tips to keep in mind when bringing in the season.

1) Blankets and throws are a great way to bring the autumn feel into your space -- think heaver wool knits and cashmere pieces, similar to sweaters you’ll be wearing during the season. Texture is an important part of layering and will give you that cozy feeling.

2) Fresh flowers or plants are always a great way to reflect the season outside; for variation, you can bring in branch displays which last a little longer as well.

3) Avoid too many apple or pumpkin scented candles -- instead, opt for warmer scents with deep wood, leather and musk for a richer scent throughout your space.

4) Bringing in accessories in fall colors is a great way to incorporate the tones without purchasing larger pieces; pillows, trays and small items easily work right into your space but don’t need to stick around all year long.

5) Don’t get sucked into buying too much seasonal decor; one or two pumpkins are fine, but don’t over do it, or your space might feel too themed.

Tray

Paring smaller elements in details (like this tray) allows you to incorporate wood into a space without bringing in bulky furniture -- each piece does not have to match exactly, mix to your liking for an eclectic feel.

Planters

Using textured materials emphases interesting shapes that might otherwise feel insignificant if they were the same material; opt for white, or woodsy details to home natural elements (like plants) in your space -- we love how all the surrounding white here makes the legs of this table pop, like artwork.
