Este componente consiste en charlas académicas, dictadas por profesionales de primera línea pertenecientes a la industria audiovisual nacional e internacional, que buscan profundizar en algunas áreas cruciales de la producción cinematográfica y sus diferentes etapas, con el objetivo de que los participantes del mercado adquieran mejores herramientas para afrontar sus producciones audiovisuales. De la mano de cineastas colombianos y expertos en dichos temas buscamos generar un diálogo más cercano con creadores y realizadores que están desarrollando sus proyectos de cortometraje. This component consists in academic talks, dictated by leading professionals from a national and international film industry, who seek to delve into some crucial areas of film production and its different stages, with the aim that market participants acquire better tools to face their audiovisual productions. With the help of Colombian filmmakers or experts in these topics, we seek to generate a close dialogue with creators and filmmakers who are developing their short film projects.

Uno de los conflictos a los que se enfrentan directores y productores en el mundo profesional es la gestión financiera de las películas. Hoy en día resulta más que apremiante entender el mundo de la negociación, la venta de proyectos, el pensamiento empresarial y empoderar procesos creativos que no compitan con la vida económica de los proyectos. El cine se consolida como un arte de industria, este no sólo obedece a la genialidad de saber contar historias, sino de saber cómo emprender las mejores rutas comerciales para hacer posible las historias y vivir de ellas. En esta charla, a través de la gran experiencia en gestión de proyectos empresariales de Javier Nieto, gerente de CityU, tendremos una introducción que nos permitirá conectar y entender el contexto empresarial y de negocios con la producción de cine. One of the conflicts that directors and producers face in the professional world is the financial management of films. Today it is more than urgent to understand the world of negotiation, project sales, business thinking and empowering creative processes that do not compete with the economic life of the projects. Cinema is consolidated as an art industry, this is not only due to the genius of knowing how to tell stories, but to know how to undertake the best commercial routes to make stories possible and make a living from them. In this talk, through the great experience in business project management of Javier Nieto, manager of CityU, we will have an introduction that will allow us to connect and understand the business and entrepreneurial context with film production. A lo largo de la historia del cine, los diseñadores de producción han conceptualizado la visión del director y han traído a escena el diseño artístico de la imagen, con ellos, nos han ofrecido en la pantalla icónicos mundos visuales en donde habitan las historias, los personajes y las emociones. En esta charla invitamos a miembros de la Asociación de Trabajadores del Arte para el Audiovisual en Colombia (ATAAC), para conversar sobre las influencias y el peso que tiene el rol del diseño de producción y dirección de arte en todos los departamentos de una película. Nos acompañará Juan Carlos Acevedo, diseñador de producción de películas como My Neighbor Adolf, Brotherhood, Siempreviva, y director de arte de títulos como Satanás; Yasmín Gutiérrez, diseñadora de producción de proyectos como El robo del siglo y Los Fierros; y Francisco Arbelaez reconocido director de arte que ha trabajado en películas como Elizabeth Harvest, Kill Chain, entre otras. Throughout the history of cinema, production designers have conceptualized the director’s vision and have brought to the stage the artistic design of the image, with them, they have offered us on the screen iconic visual worlds where stories, characters and emotions inhabit. In this talk we invite members of the Association of Art Workers for the Audiovisual Industry in Colombia (ATAAC), to discuss the influences and the weight of the role of production design and art direction in all departments of a film. El cine es el arte de la luz, es la base con la que trabajamos la imagen y en donde vislumbramos los caminos de expresiones narrativas. En esta charla, miembros de la Asociación de Directores de Fotografía Cinematográfica de Colombia (ADFC) nos compartirán los caminos que deberían tener en cuenta productores y directores para tener un diálogo más coherente con sus directores de fotografía. Este será un espacio en el que también aprovecharemos para abordar el poder de la luz en Bogotá, de la mano de Jorge Mario Vera, director de fotografía, restaurador fílmico y creador del Salón Internacional de la Luz, junto a Andrés Gutiérrez, cinematógrafo con más de 20 años de experiencia de reconocidas películas y series de televisión; y Juana González, directora de fotografía de renombrados cortometrajes y documentales colombianos. Cinema is the art of light, it is the basis with which we work the image and where we glimpse the paths of narrative expressions. In this talk, members of the Association of Directors of Cinematographic Photography of Colombia (ADFC) will share with us the paths that producers and directors should take into account in order to have a more coherent dialogue with their cinematographers. This will be a space in which we will also take the opportunity to address the power of light in Bogotá, from the hand of Jorge Mario Vera, cinematographer, film restorer and creator of the International Hall of Light, along with Andrés Gutiérrez, cinematographer with over 20 years of experience of renowned films and television series; and Juana González, director of photography of renowned Colombian short films and documentaries. La música ha atravesado desde su lenguaje particular las emociones de infinidad de públicos en el cine, se ha usado como una herramienta que permite fortalecer la historia y guiar las reacciones de las narrativas. Saber comunicar desde la dirección de cine lo que se quiere decir con la composición musical, exige echar mano de recursos creativos y editoriales, y comprender un lenguaje que dialoga constantemente con el lenguaje cinematográfico. En esta charla, Paola A. Trujillo, supervisora musical de Berklee College of Music y cofundadora de ITCAM Music, y David A. Trujillo, compositor, productor y cofundador de ITCAM Music, nos permitirán conocer y entender el proceso de musicalización para cortometrajes, y las formas de entablar comunicaciones entre la dirección, la supervisión musical y la composición. Además, exploraremos los tipos de musicalización y el potencial narrativo de cada uno. Music has crossed from its particular language the emotions of countless audiences in cinema, it has been used as a tool to strengthen the story and guide the reactions of the narratives. Knowing how to communicate from film direction what one wants to say with the musical composition requires the use of creative and editorial resources, and understanding a language that constantly dialogues with the cinematographic language. In this talk, Paola A. Trujillo, music supervisor at Berklee College of Music and co-founder of ITCAM Music, and David A. Trujillo, composer, producer and co-founder of ITCAM Music, will allow us to know and understand the process of musicalization for short films, and the ways to establish communications between direction, music supervision and composition. Tres abogados expertos en legislación de las industrias creativas en Colombia nos presentan tres caminos para recorrer y aprovechar las leyes, los fondos públicos y privados, y los circuitos comerciales a la hora de financiar, producir y distribuir cortometrajes en el país. A partir del conocimiento de búsqueda de recursos y financiación, de la legalidad de las obras cinematográficas, y de la comercialización de las películas, Ómarjavier Umaña, abogado y asesor de derechos de autor, Andrés Jaramillo abogado experto en la propiedad intelectual y derecho de la competencia, y Patricia Renjifo, abogada experta en propiedad intelectual y derecho de medios y entretenimiento, nos enseñarán las oportunidades que existen en la legislación colombiana para hacer un cine sostenible. Three lawyers, experts in the legislation of the creative industries in Colombia, present three ways to navigate and take advantage of the laws, public and private funds, and commercial circuits when financing, producing and distributing short films in the country. Based on their knowledge of the search for resources and financing, the legality of cinematographic works, and the commercialization of films, Ómarjavier Umaña, lawyer and copyright advisor, Andrés Jaramillo, lawyer and expert in intellectual property and competition law, and Patricia Renjifo, lawyer and expert in intellectual property and media and entertainment law, will show us the opportunities that exist in Colombian legislation to make a sustainable film. Saber presentar una historia y conquistar a un público implica hacerlo también en los procesos de búsqueda de financiación. Los jurados en competencia, los aliados y los posibles inversionistas se convierten en ese primer público con el que debe dialogar el proyecto. Por eso, resulta necesario entender las formas de presentar las producciones a agentes interesados en apoyar y hacer posible la historia, y destacar entre tantas opciones. En esta masterclass, la productora de cine Diana Camargo, quien ha sido directora del BFM BOGOSHORTS Film Market desde su existencia, nos compartirá su conocimiento para preparar y brillar en un pitch de cine. Knowing how to present a story and win over an audience also implies doing so in the process of seeking financing. The juries in competition, partners and potential investors become the first audience with which the project must dialogue. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the ways to present productions to agents interested in supporting and making the story possible, and to stand out among so many options. In this masterclass, film producer Diana Camargo, who has been director of the BFM BOGOSHORTS Film Market since its existence, will share her knowledge on how to prepare and shine in a film pitch. Saber escribir un guion no sólo requiere rigurosidad literaria y cinematográfica, sino un entendimiento profundo del poder que tiene la historia, ya que ésta es la herramienta de trabajo de toda la película. El cine existe si hay una historia qué contar, y en esa historia se cimentan todas las visiones artísticas e interpretativas de un equipo de trabajo. El formato de cortometraje exige mayor precisión y concisión de acciones. En esta master class dirigida especialmente a los proyectos seleccionados de In Vitro BFM 2022, Simón Mesa Soto, guionista y director de cine, ganador de la Palma de Oro en el Festival de Cannes 2014 con su cortometraje Leidi, Selección Oficial de Cannes 2016 con su segundo cortometraje Madre, y seleccionado en la Semana de la Crítica de Cannes 2021 con su primer largometraje Amparo, abordará y guiará las formas de escribir para cine en formato corto.

Knowing how to write a screenplay not only requires literary and cinematographic rigor, but also a deep understanding of the power of the story, since this is the working tool of the whole film. Cinema exists if there is a story to tell, and that story is the foundation for all the artistic and interpretative visions of a work team. The short film format demands greater precision and conciseness of actions. In this master class aimed especially at the selected projects of In Vitro BFM 2022, Simón Mesa Soto, screenwriter and film director, winner of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival 2014 with his short film Leidi, Official Selection at Cannes 2016 with his second short film Madre, and selected at the Cannes Critics’ Week 2021 with his first feature film Amparo, will address and guide the ways of writing for film in short format.
