Footballer stages search for wife ACTORS Ella Cannon and Brooke Satchwell say they are thrilled with their roles in the mock-reality show Footballer Wants a Wife. Described as a parody of The Bachelor Australia 2015 it premiered at the Astor Theatre, East St Kilda, Monday last week, and was released online the same evening. It is accessible via the Bendid youtube channel and is claimed to be Australia’s biggest-ever web series. The first three episodes are online and the final three will be released today (Tuesday). The live premiere attracted 700 people to watch celebrity appearances on the red carpet. Cannon, who attended Woodleigh School, has appeared in Neighbours, Winners and Losers, and is known as Kelly in the RACV’s “Call Jason” ad campaign. Satchwell, who attended Toorak College, has had regular roles on Neighbours, Wonderland, and Packed to the Rafters. Footballer Wants a Wife’s plot follows three footballers on the journey to love: from unexpected pregnancies, to escaped criminals and unexpected family reunions. Former Neighbours actor Ben Nicholas wrote the show which – alongside Cannon and Satchwell – stars Cassandra Magrath, of Wolf Creek-fame, and football personality Warwick Capper. “It’s been an exciting project to be part of,” Cannon said. “We are all confident it’s going to be a great hit.” The show produced by Julian Costanzo of Crankyfish Productions re-

ceived funding through Screen Australia. “We have so far received a huge amount of support and I thought it would be wonderful for people living on the peninsula to see our contribution to the project,” Cannon said. “This is a really important production for the Australian entertainment industry. It is a combined effort by an array of local talent, it is on an accessible platform and the humour relates to reality television and social media.”

Skylift work to start WORK on the Arthurs Seat Skylift is set to begin on 5 October, according to Parks Victoria. The sites of the upper and lower stations will be fenced off to allow for tree removal and excavation. Parks Victoria’s Libby Jude has said the public will be notified of the works, and of alternative picnic areas, in through newspaper advertisements in coming weeks. Ms Jude, district manager for southeast Melbourne, says school bus pickups and drop-offs will be relocated at Seawinds Gardens car park near the public lavatories for the construction period of up to 18 months. This is more than a kilometre from the existing bus stop. Many parents are said to be unhappy with the location, which will mean that “kids who walk home from the bus stop will now have to traverse a lonely trail back to the summit”, according to one parent. She said parents had not been consulted on the matter. The Seawinds location was decided after meetings between Mornington Peninsula Shire, Parks Victoria and the school bus group. “The message is clear,” the parent said. “They may have permission to do what you want in the park, but don’t mess with our kids.” David Harrison

Caption correction A CAPTION accompanying a photo in the article “Lining up for Best Bites” (The News 8/9/15) incorrectly stated that Scott Dixon was on the left. The man in the picture was actually Scott Davies of the Hummingbird Café, Red Hill. The mistake was made in a news release issued by Mornington Peninsula Shire.
