Message from the Chair

The 2022 fiscal year was a special one for the Milwaukee Art Museum. It was the first year the Museum was fully open to the public and providing regular on-campus events since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. We are thrilled to be back serving you and the community at large with our talented team.

Attendance more than doubled from the previous year as our community enjoyed the beauty of the Calatrava and a host of stellar art experiences. The Kohl’s Art Studio reopened, and the Museum’s nationally recognized Education Department welcomed more than 176,000 students and lifelong learners on campus, digitally, and throughout the community. Our innovative programming included opportunities to come together and celebrate with our community—from the “On Site: Derrick Adams”: Block Party to a new season of Lakeside at MAM, a program that has swiftly become a summer favorite for Milwaukee families. And we expect even more in 2023!

We are continuing our focus to provide compelling, innovative, and immersive art experiences. We relocated the Museum Store to a more prominent location in Windhover Hall and, also, reopened the café for food and beverage service, which together helped the Museum more than double its earned revenue. We continue to allocate resources to ensure our Museum will serve as a vital cultural resource for local, regional, and national audiences for generations to come.

On behalf of the Museum’s leadership—my fellow trustees and management—I extend our heartfelt gratitude to the individual supporters, foundations, corporations, support groups, and organizations that partner with us to empower the dedicated staff and docents to provide dynamic art experiences celebrating our incredible collection.

Let me close by thanking each of you for your support as we endeavor to create a special place where everyone can immerse themselves in the art, our artists, and the compelling stories that bring them all to life.

Very best,

Jeff Yabuki Chair, Board of Trustees
