The Unexplainable Journey

By Rhonda Felix

I reflect on many years writing for Maui Vision Magazine, and all the different changes in my life.

I was born Catholic, and as an adult moved into a hippie lifestyle, which brought Eastern philosophy into my view. Then when I found Unity Church on Maui, I stepped back into a Christian way of life in a softer overtone.

When I started fostering children, I started to attend Christian churches, and I was recently baptized with my son. I truly am enjoying my reconnection with Christianity, finding an understanding that I was not “still” enough to hear, but now I know my Father is always with me.

In the church I am now with, Grace Bible Church in Kahului, the congregation is reading a book called The Bait of Satan, by John R. Bevere, and this book is blowing my mind! It is based on the belief that taking offense to someone for something is what keeps us separate from God, from what Our Father has to give to us, our good. Our thinking thoughts about being offended by someone keep us from receiving our gifts from Our Father. Many teachers have taught me: “Your thoughts create your reality, Change Your Thinking Change Your Life,” (including my teacher, Louise Hay).

And now I hear it in a way that tells me the exact thing that causes me to be unhappy and feeling out of sync is being resentful to someone, or a situation or their actions towards me. And here is the clincher: It doesn’t matter if I am rightfully offended, or just think I’m rightfully offended; I am harming myself by not letting go of the offense. Sometimes we have to be inconvenienced by someone’s behavior or actions towards us, to learn something, to gain something, bottom line, to be blessed!

Cultivating A Healthy Spine

By Dr. Andy

“Look well to the spine for the cause of disease” – Hippocrates

Our spines are the bridge from brain to body, housing and protecting the precious spinal cord that is made out of neurons – just like your brain. The nervous system is naturally elastic and electrical, sending and receiving signals as we perceive and respond to the world. It is also the governing system of the body that directs the actions of every one of our cells.

From as early as birth, many of us go through life with some level of “stuckness” in our spines. It can go unnoticed for years until symptoms arise, yet our health and function are affected along the way. This affects the nervous system because there is a change in the tone, or elasticity, of the spinal cord. Normal tone equals normal function. Abnormal tone equals abnormal function. Everything from muscle tone to proper hormone secretion is regulated by tone.

To experience optimal health and our full human potential, we must have a clear path from brain to body. We are meant to feel light and peaceful in our bodies, and the shape and flexibility of our spine plays a huge role in creating either this state of ease, or a less pleasant state of dis-ease. The amount of freedom and space in your spine directly reflects the amount of freedom and space in your life.

Chiropractors are doctors of the nervous system trained to identify these areas of “stuckness,” and free the nervous system of undue tension with specific adjustments by hand. This is the purpose and the promise of authentic chiropractic care.
