I Heart Vegas OSCAR GOODMAN Few people know Las Vegas the way Oscar Goodman does. He served as mayor of the city for two terms and is currently an official ambassador for the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority. He is now happy to serve under his wife, current mayor Carolyn Goodman, and is often seen at public events with his trademark martini and a Vegas showgirl on each arm. Before entering politics, he was an attorney for some of the most notorious criminals in history. Yet Goodman doesn’t shy away from the “mob lawyer” tag. “I wore it as a badge of pride,” he says. “The mob could afford any lawyer in the country - and I was their lawyer.” Goodman recently sat down with Luxury Estates International to discuss his vibrant career and thoughts on life in Las Vegas.

LEI: Las Vegas is a big tourist destination, but what draws people here to live? Goodman: Once they come here as a visitor and experience what Las Vegas is really all about - and find out we don’t all live in hotels - they’re surprised. Not only do we have all the entertainment, great restaurants and wonderful retail boutique stores, we also have an outdoor community. They’re able to enjoy more parks than anybody could imagine per square mile. If they drive 45 minutes, they have one of the great water features in the world in Lake Mead where they can go boating, swimming or fishing. If they go 45 minutes in a different direction, they’re up in Mt. Charleston or Red Rock Canyon. My goodness, we can actually hike here!

llie Shefler can pinpoint the exact moment when his luxury real estate sales career took a dramatic turn upwards in Las

adia Loney always knew it was her destiny to design beautiful interiors, but her career actually began in an unexpected

place: as an attorney for a major entertainment agency in Los Angeles. “I would find myself analyzing conference rooms,” she says. “I would think about how the art, color of the walls and furniture layout could affect the mood of the clients and energy of the office.” The UCLA graduate seized an opportunity to follow her passion for interior design after marrying James Loney of the L.A. Dodgers. The couple and their family spent the next five years traveling throughout the country and Loney led the effort to decorate and remodel every new home along the way. “When I’m doing a home, it’s a well-thought-out process,” she says. “There’s a plan in place.” After settling in Las Vegas, Loney founded Design by Nadia - using social media to score her first customer. “I have an Instagram page and the client found me by searching Las Vegas interior designer tags,” Loney explains. “She came across my page and liked my style.” As the wife of a pro-athlete, Nadia Loney became an expert at furnishing homes on very short notice. She understands the enormous amount of time, energy and organizational skills it takes to manage large moves, handle renovations and furnish a space. “If I need to travel to find a specific item, I’ll do that,” she says. “I make bids on vintage items and spend time finding vendors from all over the world.” Loney has also expanded her business to provide stylish temporary furnishings for athletes and other busy professionals frequently on the move. Loney’s goal is to bring desires to life by asking the right questions and getting to know her clients and their lifestyle. She develops an understanding of how they want to live, how they want to feel and how they want the space to function.
